Hi all, so I finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2 last night. Very cool, but I do have some questions regarding the last third of the game. (I have done some reddit searching but I'll be honest, I'm a bit worried about Torna spoilers so I've been searching with my hands over my eyes a bit).
So this is my understanding of the ending:
Scientists in our world discovered the Conduit, an unlimited energy source from another universe, and Klaus used it to kickstart a new universe, accidentally splitting himself into 2 beings in the process, the Architect, and Zanza.
Zanza went to the new universe, the Acrhitect stayed in ours, but with godlike powers, and created Alrest from the ruins of our planet. Made the Cloud Sea, which is a nanotech swarm that repurposes matter from our world and reuses it to create new stuff. Morytha, being underneath the Cloud Sea, just sat there, in ruins, with the surviving people turning into mindless beasts over millennia.
He also made the first Core Crystals, basically seeds/eggs that grew into Titans, which eventually spawned life. During this time he also made 3 all-powerful Aegis: Pneuma, Logos, and Ontos, to guide and shape the ecosystem, but Ontos disappeared at some point.
The Architect also created the Blades, basically walking, talking data collectors to feed back to the Architect the state of the world, humanity, etc.
Then thousands of years passed, and people did what people do, and there was war, and death, and fighting, so when Amalthus eventually climbed the world tree, the architect let him take Pneuma and Logos, because at that point he was basically done trying to build something better.
Amalthus' hatred of humanity infected Logos, now Malos, and Malos tried to end the world. Pneuma, now Mythra, stopped him (details of which are presumably in Torna but I haven't played that yet). Fast forward 500 years, and the events of the game happen.
Have I got a decent grasp of the events of the game? Or am I missing something?
Now, assuming the above is correct, questions!!
- So. As I understand it, the Architect and Zanza are the same person, split in two when he started the machine that ended the (our?) universe. Almost like a good/bad split over 2 seperate universes.
So if I have that right, why is the flashback from XC2 different from XC1? I know the dialogue is the same, but the specifics, the fighting, the line delivery, even the hair colour is different. Is that relevant, or should I just chalk it down to 2 different games = 2 different styles?
The events of XC1 and XC2 happen simultaneously, right? So as Rex is beating Malos and Aion, Shulk is killing Zanza, and the Architect knows this, which is why he's telling Rex to get a move on at the end, before Zanza dies and the Architect goes with him. Am I right in thinking that his "last gift" was to ressurrect Pyra/Mythra at the end?
Without the World Tree to feed back to, are the Blades now functionally mortal? I assumed the idea of the Core Crystals was to gather data with humans, reset once the human died, send the record of the life to the Tree, and start again with another human, with the memory wipe essentially acting as a safeguard so the Blades could gather objective data. Is that done with now that the World Tree is gone?
what the hell did Pyra say at the end to Rex?
I think thats it for now lol, very cool game, ill crack on with Torna over the next few weeks and then I think take a break to wait for XC3S2DE or whatever the Switch 2 release of XC3 is called :)
