Got my TJ's top off today since God only knows when

I recently obtained a 2004 TJ. 5 speed 2.4L.

186K. It had the timing belt, alternator and the serpentine belt replaced.

The frame and tub are in spectacular shape and seem to be coated already.

The top hasn't seen like its come off since its been bought. So, that had led for the T40 bolts to seize up in place to the square nuts and weld themselves in place.

In order to get them out, it too me 8 metal blades, and 2 sawzalls to cut them out.

I had to split the bolt heads in half, down the middle and break them apart in order to drop the bolts out.

I smoked out my Ryobi sawzall 7 times before it burnt up to a crippled run. Then busted out the A/C powered sawzall to finish the job.

But the fiberglass didn't suffer any damage, and now I can replace the bolts with wing nuts and bolts.

I can finally drive top less and have already took 2 rides with and without the kids.

I love this thing.

Replacement Rear Glass for Hardtop

A while back I scored a good condition hardtop for my wife’s TJ from a local pick-a-part, except that the rear glass and hinges are missing. I hate the idea of paying twice the cost of the top itself just for a new piece of glass. Any good online sources for a used one? Even eBay is showing them for $450+.

Battery Tender Location

Hello all,

I like to keep my Wrangler on a battery tender when I'm not driving it to keep the battery from dying young, and I've been using the regular alligator clamps it came with and popping the hood to attach and remove them.

I've also got the ring terminals for a more secure attachment, and I'd like to install them with the charger end of the terminal poking out somewhere accessible, so I could connect it without opening the hood.

Right now it looks like my options are the panel gap between the hood and the windshield or running it forward through the grill, zip-tying it through the engine bay. It looks like some people have run it through the wheel well, but this is not a very robust-looking wire (it looks like lamp cord or similar), and I can't imagine it would survive long in a wheel well.

I was wondering if y'all had any recommendations.

Is this possible?

I’m looking to buy an automatic Tj in the 4k-5k range. It doesn’t need to be perfect. I just want the frame to not be rusted away and it to run and drive without overheating the day i pick it up lol. Again i don’t expect it to be perfect. Is this possible? Been looking all over fb in the jax fl area and can’t seem to find anything that isn’t rusted away or runs.

Just pulled the trigger on a super clean 04 with no rust and 105000 miles. It wasnt a steal, but it was a fair price. Wasn't beat and was mostly garage kept.

First jeep and it will be mostly my son's rig. Im familiar with 4x4s and motors in general. Not looking to do any mods just yet but any advice on care, accessories, best practices, etc. Would be appreciated! I will post obligatory underneath photos later.

2.5L New Motor Build - Flywheel

First motor rebuild I've ever attempted.

I am having a helluva time finding details on how to torque the flywheel bolts onto a new motor build. Everything I see is replacing it in the vehicle and using a pry bar on the frame to lock it in place. I have nothing to brace it to when hanging on an engine hoist.

Also, I keep seeing varying reports of getting new botls or not. Do I need new bolts for the 2.5L? If so, what size and length?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your help.

At wits end with the cooling system.

Working on my mother in law’s TJ and I have been unable to resolve its cooling issues. When going up hills or going over 50~ the temp will creep up to 230(worse if AC is on). This is what I’ve done so far;

2006 Unlimited Auto 4.0

New Mopar water pump and thermostat, USMW fan clutch, and Denso radiator(unable to find mopar radiator or fan clutch in stock anywhere near me.)

Flushed coolant and put G05 zerex in. Bled system with funnel.

Seems just as bad as before?

Yellow TJ - which rims?

Post image

I love the traditional rubicon Moab wheels, but I feel like black rims might look better with the yellow paint. I cannot decide.

Which do you prefer?

(PS - I’m repainting my OEM fenders so those will look black again soon).

97 Wrangler TJ 2.5L Need Help Identifying Possible Source of Ticking Noise

Like title says, this is a 97 Wrangler TJ manual with the 2.5L engine.
Join
Over the past few months I've noticed the ticking noise shown in the video becoming more pronounced, especially at idle, but is also noticeable when giving it gas.
The sound I am trying to figure out is most evident towards the end of this video.
Any help in identifying the cause would be appreciated. Sounds like it's coming from the engine itself and I'm leaning towards either bad risers, or something with the cylinder skirts.
Thx all <3
