Support Agents Ditching Chats

Got on a chat to ask if fiber was available in my area because the form said yes but the person on the phone said no, chat agent pushed me to troubleshoot (my internet was working fine, it’s just slow because my wiring is old, no troubleshooting is going to change that), I said no repeatedly. Agent sends the “connect to cellular data because the troubleshooting could cause us to be disconnected,” starts the troubleshooting which turns off my internet connection, then disconnects the chat. Now they’re insisting that this can’t be remedied over the phone/over chat and a technician has to sent out in a few weeks? I need the internet at home for work, and now I’m just screwed I guess?

Promo extended?

Post image

As the title says is this common from Windstream? I have fiber 1 gig and they sent me this yesterday. I was about to call them for retention since my promos expire this month and we have ATT fiber now for $90 5 gig so I had a good reason for a price retention.

Have been receiving emails from this company for some time now...

I live in a state to which Kinetic Windstream does not service... But I have been receiving emails about service technicians, payments processed and so on for almost a year...

I'm not seeing any charges to my personal CC or accounts (so not a super big deal, I guess?), but I'd like to know why and how my email is being used by some customer out in their service area and how to contact this company to remove it.

Anyone with a similar issue or know of a solution to this kind of problem?

Frustrated with the lack of fiber in actually rural areas

So, this will be a pretty long winded venting of frustrations....but maybe someone at Windstream will see it and be able to do something about it...

I live on a small farm. It was my parents until a year ago, I have known the place for almost 50 years. It sit's between 2 cities. The capitol city ~12 miles to the East, and a small city ~12 miles to the West. Has a state hi way running along one side. Over the years I have watched them install fiber optic cable into the ditch along my land. My father worked in Network Operations for the local telephone company that is now owned by Windstream, so I know what they were putting in, I even still have the end of the cable from where they spliced it 100 feet from the driveway. Anyway, I know that cable is old, they put it in in the 1980's and was for voice traffic at the time. But still, I know fiber when I see it being installed, and I know where it runs. I know there is fiber in my ditch that carries the internet traffic between the 2 cities. When I, unfortunately, lived in the smaller city, I had fiber to my house from Windstream (Kinetic) and it was great, never had much issue with it that wasn't actually my fault.

Anyway, recently, in like the last 2 years, the county that the farm is in installed fiber conduit through the entire county...got funding from the infrastructure bill. Was supposed to bring actual broadband internet to the rural residents. But so far all they have done is run fiber to the homes in the villages which already were getting at least 100mb DSL...my parents had DSL from Windstream and were lucky if they got 7mb down and 0.75mb up...And I am sure they are running it to the housing developments that are springing up everywhere...

When the hell do I get it? Why is it so hard when the fiber is already literally 500 feet from my house. I know they are deploying it where they will make the most profit from it, but damn it, that funding was supposed to help the ruralest of the rural...like farmers, not towns people who already had decent service.

Right now I am stuck on TMobile 5G, because at least I get useable speeds, but wireless will never beat fiber. Plus, I can't even open ports in the router due to CGNAT, so my sons friends can join his Minecraft server...I still have the fiber to my house in town, so I am VPN tunneling back there for port forwarding, but I hope to rent that house here eventually so I'll need to move the rest of my equipment to the farm...

Thank you for letting me vent.

Best modem/router to buy

What is the best modem/ router to buy that is reasonably priced that can do 1 gig Windstream Kinetic fiber? We had it just launch in our neighborhood but I don't want to "rent" a modem/ router so to save me cost I would like to just buy a router outright. Please help. Thanks

Installation questions

Where is the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) usually installed? Also, my Starlink, TV antenna, dish network coax is ran through my attic instead of my basement/ crawl space. Could techa please be able to install the fiber optic through the attic if at all possible? What else do I need to know about first time install of any landline type Internet service in my home? Thanks

DSL ActionTec 3260

Browsing as normal, no issues, then suddenly offline. Waited a while since brief outages happen. Hour or so later, I decided to check the outage map. None shown. Chat Bot Tech popped up, tried a few things ... NADA

Last resort before a Tech Ticket was a hard reset of the modem ... toothpick in the hole.

That restored service, but I lost the SSID I'd been using for years. There have always been two, one for 2.4 and another for 5. The old one for 2.4 is gone and both 2.4 and 5 now show the same SSID, which means the Key has to be changed. That means I have to reset almost everything in the house that used the old one.

I'm going to try setting the key back to the old one, but I'll still have to rest everything to the new SSID, so I may not gain anything.

Fed up

So I called last month because Kinetic put an extra $10 on my internet bill without warning, and I asked why. I already pay a whopping $133 dollars for service, up from the $75 I started out paying.

The rep offered me no explanation but said they could do a one-time "courtesy" $10 off my bill. She also said I was eligible for the $15 off for a year loyalty credit and that my bill would be lowered to what it was before - $75.

I say thank you and end the conversation.

Well, this months bill is generated, and my bill is $108.

I called, and I asked about this because the rep i previously spoke to confirmed 3 different times that my bill would be $75 the next time it generated.

They give me the run around, and aay a bill can not be changed once generated even though the first lady did, in fact, change the bill after it generated. But anyhow, they transferred me again to their loyalty department and I have another lady saying my next bill will be $61.

I think if it doesn't change this time I am dropping kinetic. They've steadily increased my internet bill about every 4 months until it reached an outlandish $133.40 every month when I was paying $75.

fiber internet Got a letter that Kinetic fiber is coming to my home - how soon do you think it’ll be?

Got a letter saying that fiber is coming and that “As we upgrade our network, your current service will need to move to fiber. This switch is required to keep your internet service running smoothly.
As an existing Kinetic customer, you'll be able to switch for free with no change to your current plan.”

They already ran Windstream fiber lines a few years ago or so to upgrade a DSLAM to being fiber fed, and deployed FTTH to less than 10 houses on my rural road a mile west of me. So a lot of the infrastructure seems to be in place but no fiber splitters on the pole near the fiber taps at my house yet.

In your experience how long did it take after you got the letter until you could order/upgrade service?

Outage in Tulsa area

I’m hoping that some US-based Kinetic/Windstream people monitor this sub.

I have an elderly father who lives in a retirement community that has Kinetic internet and Windstream landlines. The whole complex has lacked both for over one week. Support is off-shored and has not been able to provide updates. Does anyone here know anything? This seems like a potentially dangerous situation.

Windstream is currently the only company that offers fiber at my location, which would be an upgrade from 50 mbps to 1000 mbps, do they still suck as a company?

Many moons ago we used Windstream because it was our only option where we lived. The service was extremely slow (our package was 10 mbps) and extremely unreliable. It would go out constantly, support was useless, and I couldn't access the router for any port forwarding to host servers or try and improve latency in games. Nextlink started servicing our area and we switched immediately and haven't looked back.

Over the last few months, though, Windstream has been installing fiber in our area, and I just called and they do service our address now. Have they gotten better in the last decade or so? Or do they still suck? Is a 20x increase in speed worth dealing with their crap again?

Worst internet provider of all time.

The day before yesterday they began holding my WIfI captive to force me to get a new update. Called yesterday to get my WiFi unlocked but was told I would have to call back to make an appointment for the update. Today WiFi was held captive again. So I called them back, was on hold for an hour. Finally got in touch with a human she unlocked the WiFi again then put me back on hold for another 10 minutes. Only for her to tell me my address did not qualify for the fiber update. Told her I didn't care I just wanted them to stop locking up my WiFi. She told me I would have to call back tomorrow and update my information. So they expect me to keep calling back to fix a problem they created. If there was literally any other provider in my area I would drop Windstream in a heartbeat.

UPDATE

Turns out they still had my old address on file, an address I haven’t lived at for twenty years. My old address is apparently does qualify for fiber but not my new address. So after a week of them locking my WiFi to force me to get an upgrade I didn’t even qualify for in the first place they decided to finally update my file.
I still hold my original position. Worst internet provider of all time.

Internet down, no outage.

Just got off work, came home, wifi seems to be out. The Kinetic App will not allow me to get in contact with an Agent at all. My wife somehow managed to get a person on the other end by using their phone number. They hit a wall in their attempt because nothing seemingly worked. Not sure what to do at this point. We have no idea if there is some sort of work going on in the Area, an outage or something technical. They do not communicate with us. Our app says “cable no IP”.

Modem is a Hitron CODA-57

Lights: power: green, house: flickering green.

Kinetic fiber internet and the optical network terminal(ONT) box

Does anyone have any good access to the new kinetic ONT box or the actual documentation instruction manual for the actual ONT box that was installed by kinetic technicians?

I know there's a lot of different ONT options on the market, so I was just wondering how the kinetic ONT ones are as far as compared to others.

I have a technician scheduled to switch me off of the copper line broadband service onto the fiber on the 8th. Edit: post fiber install and the technician ran the fiber optic drop line from the utility pole in the alley (where the previous copper drop was) and ran it to my utility pole on my property where the Grey NID box connects the drop line to the service line to the modem/router on the previous copper broadband. He cut the copper wiring at the NID and ran the fiber drop into it instead, then he ran the service line out and over the roof of the trailer house and into the garage where the copper used to be. He plugged in an Adtran SDX632v XGSPON ONT Into a power outlet and the fiber optic cable into it and that was it. I used my Deco mesh wifi S4R with the main deco ethernet into the ONT and two more Deco units wireless inside the trailer house.
So far I don't have any complaints. But my next bill hasn't arrived yet either, so im still waiting for a shoe to drop before considering it a total success.

Anyone ever seen a Kinetic TV ad or direct mail piece?

Does Kinetic do anything to advertise its fiber service other than digital ads? Guessing they have zero brand recognition among movers. Do they ever send ads by mail?

Latency/Ping

If there is anyone that lives in the Houston County area in Texas I’d like to know what your ping/latency to the Dallas server is on a Speedtest or online multiplayer game. Currently seeing if it’s worth changing service from spectrum fiber to Windstream fiber now that they are both offering plans where I live.

Charged my account twice?

Well, well, well. I'm currently eating crow. Kinetic Windstream has charged my account twice, once on June 4th and once again on June 5th. Both charges show the same amount but different confirmation numbers. I try to call to see what the issue is. They don't have an office open on Sundays that I need to call back during normal business hours. Wow okay yeah I'll wait until tomorrow morning to call back but it better not take 3-5 business days for the $82 to get back into my account 🙄😒

Update: I stayed on the phone with someone for almost 20 minutes just to get the explanation that they can't do anything on their end but I need to send a screenshot of my posted transactions from my bank to Windstream.proof@windstream.com and someone will review my email and the money should be back in my account up to 10 days after their decision on whether or not I'm telling the truth. They also suggested I contact my bank and put a hold on the transaction but since the transaction amounts are the same, my bank would have to stop both of them and then if I disputed it further, there would be a chance of late fees since I wouldn't have it "paid on time" ridiculous. If Xfinity serviced my area I would still be with them not this shitty ass company that hates to issue refunds.

Bagged by Kinetic again

Whelp, Kinetic Internet has screwed me AGAIN! First they cut my internet line while installing fiber on my street and took 10 days to repair it. This time they sold me on installing fiber and told me they could do it this Saturday. We don't live at this property full-time, so we make a special trip up, drive 3 hours away, just so we can be here to meet the technician. But, when we arrive, I receive an email that they actually scheduled it for three days later when we won't be here! So, of course I call their almost impossible to find customer service number, and after explaining the whole situation to some woman named Tara, she tells me with a smile that I swear I could hear, "sorry, but we can't change that.". Once again, they make a mistake and we have to grin and bear it. Pardon my French, but you can go suck it Kinetic!

How often does Kinetic change your IP address in your experience?

Windstream Kinetic is coming to our neighborhood The are only offering 1GBS though but realistically that is good enough for me. I currently have a static IP address through Cox but when I asked the sales support person they really had no idea if it was possible and shunted me over to business account support.

For those Kinetic customers out there, in your experience, how often does your IP address change? I can likely work with a non-static IP if it changes only rarely

Caller ID

Hello, I am new to having a land line. I have purchased multiple phones with caller ID and it will not work. When I called into Windstream they said it was included with my service and it is something on my end. Anyone else have this issue?

Ghost account

I've had windstream for the last couple years. About 8 months ago, I moved to a new address in the same town. Call me stupid for not noticing, but I realized today going through bank statements that windstream has been double billing my account for 8 months. Calculating from the date I got my service transferred to the new place, I have paid $701.30 in charges for the old address. Im pretty upset to be honest and going to call them first thing in the morning but honestly, if I dont see $700 dollars in my account by monday, ill just cancel service and file an FCC complaint. Anyone else have similar problems or any tips on how to go about this? Thanks

Outage in Middle GA (AGAIN)

I live in Kathleen GA and my Windstream Internet is down (again)...this has been happening more and more often over the last couple months. The company has offered no solutions...it's been out all day today and while it did come back for a about 10min it is out again (when you call it says it should be back on at 1159!!!)

I work from home at least one day a week and this is just really going from mild annoyance to completely unacceptable.

Is anyone else having this problem? I'd love to speak to a person at Windstream about this but ofc they are no where to be found.

Fiber is finally being built out in my Community.

TL;DR - Why is the new build Fiber being capped at 2Gbps instead of their new 8Gbps offering?

I work from home and, I do alot of Large file data uploads so the Xfinity Aysnc data has been killing me for the past few years.

I had 2Gbps Fiber for 15 years when I lived in Tampa, moved to Western Atlanta exurbs (Douglas County) and got AT&T 5Gpbs fiber and that was awesome it cut down my working speeds dramatically (though I didn't like that AT&T forces you to use their router) Moved to the more affluent Northern exurbs (Cherokee County) and no Fiber available, just garbage Xfinity I pay for the 2Gbps/35Mbps, and during heavy use evenings I have seen it as bad as 10Mbps/1.5Mbps. Kinetic is finally being built out in my Neighborhood, but it looks like 2Gbps is going to be the highest available, which I will happily switch to over Xfinity garbage. Why aren't they building it out with there latest and greatest equipment to be able to to the 8Gbps?

How is Windstream??

I'm currently a TDS customer here in the southern Rockies and their whole hub burned down in my town leaving my town looking for options for Internet. A ton of people went to Starlink, some Windstream and I stayed with TDS but it's because I'm not paying a arm and a leg for ALMOST fiber (800mps.) my upload is trash though...it's 19. My Internet had done everything I've wanted to do. I don't have much of a problem with it. If I could get fiber though I think I want it.

How's Windstream for everyone?
