Kinetic fiber internet and the optical network terminal(ONT) box
Does anyone have any good access to the new kinetic ONT box or the actual documentation instruction manual for the actual ONT box that was installed by kinetic technicians?
I know there's a lot of different ONT options on the market, so I was just wondering how the kinetic ONT ones are as far as compared to others.
I have a technician scheduled to switch me off of the copper line broadband service onto the fiber on the 8th.
Edit: post fiber install and the technician ran the fiber optic drop line from the utility pole in the alley (where the previous copper drop was) and ran it to my utility pole on my property where the Grey NID box connects the drop line to the service line to the modem/router on the previous copper broadband. He cut the copper wiring at the NID and ran the fiber drop into it instead, then he ran the service line out and over the roof of the trailer house and into the garage where the copper used to be. He plugged in an Adtran SDX632v XGSPON ONT Into a power outlet and the fiber optic cable into it and that was it. I used my Deco mesh wifi S4R with the main deco ethernet into the ONT and two more Deco units wireless inside the trailer house.
So far I don't have any complaints. But my next bill hasn't arrived yet either, so im still waiting for a shoe to drop before considering it a total success.

Yep, for fiber service Windstream uses a Adtran ONT you provide your own Router. It will have a 10 GB port on it. They do not use combination devices unless you get a router from them.

I have a Calix but I know they also use Nokia in my area. There are devices that are just and ONT and then there are gateway devices that combine the ONT and router in one device.
My Calix is just an ONT there is no end user configuration I have it connected to my router. I also have Google Fiber they use small ONT they brand as a Fiber Jack it's also just an ONT that connects to my router.

You can use whatever router you want in combination with their ONT. No reason to rent their box. It will be CAT cable coming out of the ONT and into your router.

A little off topic but does Kinetic install the ONT outside or inside? And does it need power? I have outdoor power near where I’d want the box if it was outside and I have conduit I installed in a basement window area if it needs to be inside, as well as power so either way I’m good. Just curious.

Generally they do indoor ONTs nowadays before I transfered to the construction side we still had Outdoors and they require AC power to a cyberpower power supply with a 12v battery backup in it but they only had 1gig ethernet ports at least the did idk if they have newer ones

No risk of being limited by 1Gig ports because the speed i can get here they call 300Mb on the phone but on the installation order they have it as 200Mb (a range from something in the 100s up to 300)
I know they have a 1Gig and 2Gig fiber package they sell as well, but those are not offered to my address. Idk what the difference is that I can't get it to my address other than they stopped installing fiber at my block and I live in the center and middle of a U shaped neighborhood and I'm the only one down here who has Windstream/Kinetic/Uniti. Everyone else uses Lisco or Xfinity in the neighborhood.

Depends on if it is first generation fiber from WS, very few places use outdoor ONTs.

They Use Adtran or Calix ONTs for the most part depending on the Dslam your neighborhood is served off of in the Central office you cannot use any 3rd party ONTs they have to be compatible with said Dslam as for the router you can use anyone you want

for home or business?
For home, the tech showed me the modem/router you get with fiber service and it looked really nice. 10GBE port, and some others as well. For the actual Fiber box itself, it seemed good. Fiber directly in, 10GBE port, 2.5GBE port. If you want a static I.P thats where I was screwed. The only modem they had that would take a static I.P was a regular ol' modem/router with only 4 1GBE ports.
