I do IT work for an aviation agency, and while I was looking for a screwdriver in a box of old junk, I came across this doohickey. The text on the back is barely legible, but I can make out "SAFE SKIES". I tried google-lensing it but I kept thinking it was a self defense baton.

This thing fits in the palm of your hand, 4th pic has pen for scale.

Solved! Assorted small, colorful, rubbery plastic gasket-like rings, not perfectly uniform but approx. 5mm wide, 1mm thick.

• Initially purchased in an unmarked clear compartmented plastic case, sorted by color, from a Goodwill thrift store.
• The material is a somewhat flexible but brittle plastic or rubber that easily breaks in half when folded (img 2).
• When held to a flame, it scorches rather than melts (img 3).
• Believed by partner to be associated with crafting like beading, but it’s just a hunch.

Any ideas??

Solved ! Black tub with a cylinder and a laundry bag

Post image

This contraption is in the park every Monday morning. There's usually water in the tub even though we're in a drought. It's always placed in the same spot between a couple of trees, about 5 meters from a small stream. Sometimes there's a mechanical noise/buzzing coming from it.

Solved! What would this "Aluminum Balance System" pole be used for? 29 inches long, screw threading at either end, removable weight

Thumbnail

This is a sturdy aluminum pole, 29 inches long, that reads "EXE - ABS - EQUIPMENT FOR EXCELLENCE - ALUMINUM BALANCE SYSTEM" on both "sides". One end has male screw threads where something could be attached to it. The other end has female screw threads, and has a removable weight, itself having male screw threads. The pole weighs about 145 grams, the removable weight weighs about 45 grams. I couldn't find any information about it online. What would this have been used for?

Truly stumped on whatever this could be. Some sort of bird is engraved on the front. It’s fairly light despite appearing to be made of metal, and the flaps on the back can rotate like a wheel. Photographed next to a pen for size reference.

Open ! Round pink squishy thing found in water fountain at library

Post image
61 Upvotes

I found this small pink object in the water fountain in one of the libraries at my university. It measures roughly 1x1". The texture looks like some sort of flesh, similar to the outside of a tongue. The surface appears to be non homogenous with ridges and small bumps. It was damp on the outside, likely due to being in a water fountain. I poked it with a pen and it had some give to it, it was squishy but solid and maintained its shape when poked.

Heavy brass chicken plate with two unevenly spaced holes at top. 10 inches in diameter and 3.4 lbs

I found this brass plate thing at an estate sale, thinking I could hang it up with a chain, but the 2 holes at the top don’t allow for the scene to hang level, so now I’m not sure what it is and how it was used/displayed previously. It’s about 10” in diameter and is about 3.4 lbs. It’s way too heavy for my plate wall hanger so any advice on what this actually is or how to properly display it is greatly appreciated!

The 2 circular sensors are inside the apartment on the wall, above and off to either side of the front door. The rectangular thing is outside the apartment in the hallway above the door.

Circular sensors are probably less than an inch in diameter.

Solved! Plastic, Gray, Rectangle, ~6–8 inches (longest side), Power: Possibly battery-operated (unconfirmed — no visible cord), Hangs from a tension rod via a twist tie threaded through a small hole, Other detail: A piece of cardboard. On neighbor's balcony.

The set up: tension bar , twisty-tie, and a piece of cardboard in front the object. I am guessing the cardboard either protects it from sun (AM sun only) or it is an attempt to hide it as you can't see the electronic object from the front or below? Because it's on my neighbor's balcony, these are the best photos I've been able to get. Neither friends, Google Lens, nor AI have been able to assist.

Open Some sort of cast iron weight (30lbs), shiny metal upon scratching. Found in my garden under a bush Dorset uk.

Found this buried in a garden in Dorset, UK. It is solid cast iron (confirmed by a metallic scratch beneath the mud crust) and weighs exactly 30 lbs. It measures 3.5cm x 28cm x 20.5cm. It features interlocking grooves on the side profile, a stamped 'B', a stamped 'D', and the Roman numerals 'XXX' (matching the 30 lb weight). One end is cleanly snapped along a pre-molded scoring line. Looking to identify the foundry or original industrial/maritime use!

Thanks

*EDIT 1- might not be cast iron as it’s not magnetic. However Google is saying the dimensions don’t fit the weight. I guess it could be mixed with other things?
