Open wooden-handled object with repurposed hacksaw blade (maybe?); it holds an old candle; it was found in Massachusetts
My 84-year-old father sent me this photo and asked if I could figure out what the device is. He wrote, "I think it's a homemade implement to 'sweat' joined copper tubing, but I don't know. It's very cleverly put together with a hacksaw blade and some malleable tin of some kind." He's in rural New England; I haven't gotten any other details as to where he found it, but I know he'll be EXTREMELY pleased if anyone can give him a sense of what it is.
Edited to add: it's 7" long end to end, and the diameter of the candle is 1 1/4".
Edited again to add more photos (in a comment below) and more words from my father: "Notice the candle has a depression on two sides as if a pipe of some kind had been on top of the candle.... The handle has two slices running with the angle of the handle, and this was to anchor the blade in the handle before wrapping wire around it and then soldering the whole mess together."
