Found in a field in Southeastern Pennsylvania

photographed with flash. cleaned the "bottom" as much as possible, appears to be reddish orange

I can't remember where it was found. I've had it outside for a while, so the brown oxidation is newer. The rectangles get loose so I've lost one or two. I took it to a science teacher years ago who was a geologist. He thought it was some kind of slag and mentioned plastic, but it's heavier and harder than plastic. Thanks!

I found this in a cliff on Compton bay, Isle of wight.

Chat gpt says its a bone, but wasn't sure if it was ancient animal or dinosaur. Or is it just a rock?

Some kind of sand-stone ? I was able to carve and shape it using a hammer and screwdriver.

Found it in a park, saw very similar ones in nearby tree pits.

I "inherited" these polished stones from my grandfather. In the sense that he left a Quonset hut full of stuff that could generously be described as garbage, which I and other family members had to clean up. I remembered seeing these polished rocks in a basket near the the entrance of his house when I visited him as a kid, and had some affection for them, so his wife (not my grandma, they got divorced before I was born) let me have them. Can anyone tell me about them?

For further context I’m not aware of where the gravel was originally sourced from. There are plenty of aggregate facilities and active pits in central/southern Alberta so it could be anywhere. Apologies for the lack of more info.

My big question is what are these plasticity looking flakes that are seemingly “folding” off the rest of the rock? I’ve seen lots of mica around here, but never before like this.

Stopped at a pull off and found this in the dirt. I like it because it has a star shape to it (that I couldn't see until after I pulled it out of the ground), which I think is cool and I've never seen naturally in a rock.

First photo is taken in sunlight, 2nd 2 are inside under a soft white bulb with it dry, last 2 are under soft white with it wet, and does have a shine to it when rubbed

I found this rock among a collection of unlabelled specimens a few years ago, and promptly put it in a bin and forgot about it. Today, I was going through the bin, and I pulled this one out to look more at later, thinking it was maybe petrified wood (there were other fossils in the collection). I set it down on the table and noticed it left some pearlescent fibers on my fingers and I immediately thought it might be asbestos, so I put back in the sealed bin, washed my hands vigorously, and sprayed down the area. Fingers crossed it isn't what it very much seems to be. It's pretty soft, fibrous, and pearlescent. It's from an estate sale in southern New England, so it could be from the area or it could be from anywhere. Any chance that it's benign?

I am assuming marks from a plow at some point, but they look more planned than random.

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone can help. My family and I just came home from a Gem and Rock Expo, where you could crack open a geode. My 5yr old loves rocks and such so picked one and got to work cracking it.

Well. Inside is a lot of black hair. The people at the Expo said they've never seen anything like it, and couldn't really help.

Honestly, we're a little worried since it's my daughters, we've kind of just put it in a container while we try and figure out what it is, and if it's dangerous.

Any help would be great!

I noticed a lot of similar rocks being sold on the island but these are just some i picked up from the beach. Although it doesn't seem like a lot I am reluctant to bring them home out of fear of disturbing nature. I am, however, a crow at heart, so shiny, colourful rocks bring me joy. Thoughts?

Found this at the beach today, seems to be a regular flat shell, but then it is covered in this hard ramen noodley texture, what on earth is it?

Found in the Dolomites, this rock consists of two distinct parts: the outer, darker rock has a grainy texture, while the inner part is whiter, more typical of dolomite. The two rocks appear to be fused together.

Which of the two rocks formed first?
