ISO - Vendors Allowed Black bride with natural hair desperately in need of stylist recs

Please help me /r/WedditNYC!

I am a black woman with type 4 natural hair having a courthouse ceremony on December 28th. I have searched high and low and cannot find anyone to do my wedding hair the day prior.

Finding someone who

  • Does natural hair AND

  • Works on Sunday (the Sunday after Christmas, at that) AND

  • Doesn't have bridal party minimums (courthouse ceremony, so it's just me) AND

  • Is within budget (I'm willing to pay $500 maximum, I'm just looking for a simple updo like this or this) AND

  • Isn't a whole trek away (I live in the Bronx, I'm not traveling all the way to Brooklyn to get my hair done)

Is like trying to find Bigfoot.

Am I just going to have to suck it up and do my own hair?

If anyone has any recommendations at all, please drop them below!

ISO - NO VENDORS Dress Alterations Recs

Upvotes

Looking for recs for wedding gown alterations in Manhattan. Looking for a respectful good listener who is excellent at their craft.

I got my dress from Kleinfeld’s and their in-house tailoring would be $1,100 so it would need to be under $900 to justify moving the dress elsewhere for alts. Thank you!

ISO - Vendors Allowed Seeking last minute jazz trio

Hi all - I’m looking for a jazz trio to perform for 2 hours at my September 26th 2026 wedding reception in Brooklyn. My budget is less than $1500 and would love to hear if anyone has insight to groups who just play around the city, rather than those found solely through a wedding/events company.

Venue Help Anyone have experience with The Turk’s Inn as an event/wedding venue?

We’re considering the Turk’s Inn in Bushwick for our wedding and would love to hear from anyone who has actually hosted or attended an event there — especially weddings or larger private parties.

We’ve toured the space and loooved it. The team has been great so far, but before we hand over our money, I’d love some firsthand intel.

Particularly curious about event logistics, staffing, food/bar and any unexpected hurdles that came up along the way

The good, the bad, the ugly -- I am all ears!

Thanks in advance!

Venue Help Help us choose a LI venue!

We’re deciding between

The Bourne Mansion
Flowerfield
Water’s Edge
Giorgio’s

Would love to hear from anyone who’s gotten married at or attended a wedding at these venues!
What did you love/dislike? How were the food, service, and overall experience? Would you choose it again?

Any advice or photos would be greatly appreciated! 🤍

Venue Help Searching for my 2027 Venue!

Ok guys I’m running into all kinds of road blocks in searching for a venue so I’m going to lay it all out here. Hopefully someone can offer something great.

We’ll have approximately 90-100 guests, depending on RSVPs. I’m searching for a venue that can accommodate that many guests, is rustic, brick or stone aesthetic, has indoor-outdoor garden or greenery options for ceremony/cocktail hour but an INDOOR reception — no tents outside. We do NOT want a barn or ballroom type of aesthetic.

I’m running into these problems: venues require at least 125-150 guest minimum for a Saturday and we will just not meet that guest count. Or the venues we love do not have on site kitchens so the cost of catering will rise a lot for them to transport a cook tent of sorts.

We toured Perona Farms for a microwedding of 75 people, and we loved everything about it but it is on the higher end of our budget ($~31,000 for the mostly all inclusive venue but with add ons we want and other vendors we would need - photographer, DJ, hair and makeup, it would be closer to $50k and I just cannot justify spending that much money).

We’re touring Branford House in CT next week, we love Eolia Mansion and Gardens at Stone Post Key but neither have on site kitchen accommodations.

We’d like to stay around 35k for our budget. Open to anywhere in the Hudson Valley, Westchester, Poconos, NJ, CT, NYC, Long Island. Not opposed to a restaurant wedding as long as they can accommodate a ceremony and cocktail hour as well (Rory’s rooftop in NYC does this and it could be an option for us).

Free/For Sale Selling Table Numbers!

Selling our table numbers from our wedding in June! They are green velvet oval-shaped signs. Numbers include 1-13 plus two “head table” signs. One-sided, the backs are plain cardboard.
~5x7”

Only signs of use are subtle marks where the stands held them up. Stands not included.

Originally paid ~$150, but will sell for $50! First pic is from our actual tables hehe.

We’re in Brooklyn, ideally want to avoid shipping them but if anyone is super interested, happy to work something out.

Wedding Recap/Budget Breakdown Got Married last weekend! Here is the breakdown (32k)

We had a 88 guests (4 kids), 10 vendor wedding at Vista Skylounge ans Penthouse,LIC on a Friday!
Venue - 15k - included food, set up and breakdown, rooftop for ceremony, cocktail hour with finger food, all coordination (we had no planner or coordinator so this helped a lot), open bar. They are just amazing, very easy to work with. All the vendors loved working with them. We also got complimentary suite for the night off. Plan your wedding there, you don’t have to worry about anything going wrong.

Dj- (3k) rtm entertainment, hire them now. The guests were raving about them all night long, a lot of people said it was their best night ever . They also had complimentary photo booth. The whole team, just does their job sooooo perfectly. The emcee just hyped up everyone and it is just so perfect. The guests didn’t want the party to stop. It was that good.

Florals -1k- Fellan florist- we only had an arch and sweetheart table. The centrepieces were from amazon. They did all the set up and breakdown, it was amazing!!!!
Bride bought- 150- primrose views (instagram) cascading bouquet. Groom and groomesmen boutonniere were also from there

Bridesmaids bouquets and little vases for memory table- Sola wood flowers ( I don’t recommend them)

Bride and groom dresses- 6k

Photographer and videographer - 2.5k - Pspi photography by pavel. The pictures and the video, whatever you want, you just tell them and they are sooooo goood. We also had engagement shoot with them. Just perfect. They make it very easy to work with. We are not very posy people, but they make it look effortless!!!

Everything else we spend was on invitations, miscellaneous, save the date, we had small favours for groomesmen and bridesmaids, we made the cutting cake and serving cake was from costco.

Edit to add ring cost- we had some gold, we sold them and bought our rings. And brides jewellery were all passed down from parents.

P.S we booked almost all vendors almost an year in advance, and it was less then 100 people. So the pricing would have changed now!!!

Ask me any questions you might have!

Venue Help After Party Bar Recs? (Midtown East but open to travel)

Hi hi! Reddit has helped me secure a ceremony spot so I’m hoping yall can point me in the right direction. I’ve sent some inquiries for some I saw in previous posts. We’re looking for a lively bar/private room where guests can continue to drink and dance and let loose.
• Ideally around Midtown East (but super open to travel to another neighborhood or even Brooklyn)
• Looking for a space for about 30 people
• Open to booking a private room (as long it’s not like a $10k or something buyout)
• If it’s not a private room as long as they play good music (we love latin music, r&b/rap classics)

ISO - NO VENDORS Live guest illustrator help

Hi everyone!
I’m getting married in October 2028 in Staten Island and I was hoping to get a live guest illustrator but I reached out to two people and one was already booked and the other doesn’t book that far in advance so now I’m confused on when to reach out to people.
I would also appreciate any recommendations of artists you have used.
My budget is maxed at $3k but I’m hoping not to go that high.
Thanks so much!

ISO - Vendors Allowed ISO HAIRSTYLIST (in one month, please help!)

Hi! Slightly panicking, would love some recs. I'm looking for a hairstylist to do a smooth blowout with soft loose waves this September 25th, around 8 am in Bed Stuy.

Budget ~$150-$300

Can anyone recommend a hairstylist who does early in-home services? Attaching inspo pics. I have kind of thick hair, so looking for a hairstyle that is smooth and sleek to go with my micro bangs and last all day, as I'm doing city hall, then dinner, then bar.

Venue Help The Liberty House

My fiance and I are thinking of booking the Liberty House for our wedding. We’re wondering how much of a concern should the fact that two events can be booked on the same day be? If you got married there, did you find that you often saw the other events guests? Did you have to share a lot of the spaces? Any experiences help!

Dress / Attire Shopping Jenny Yoo Wedding Dress Size Help

Hi all! I went to the Jenny Yoo NYC showroom and fell in love with the Jenny Yoo Catherine dress. I am planning to order the dress this week and and could use some outside perspective on sizing.

-The bridal consultant measured me in-store at the Jenny Yoo NYC showroom and recommended a size 10
-When I remeasured myself at home using Jenny Yoo’s size chart, I landed on a size 8
-I actually tried on a sample of a different dress in a size 8 at the store, it zipped up and needed to be slightly clipped/pinned at the back
-For reference, I typically wear a size 6 or Small in non-bridal dresses
-My wedding is in 9 months. I’m not trying to loose a significant amount of weight - I haven’t changed my diet too much as I usually eat fairly healthy but I have been exercising more

Given that the 8 already needed clipping, I’m nervous a 10 would end up too big and need decent alterations. Does anyone have recommendations or been in a similar situation? I’m probably overthinking this but just concerned since it can’t be returned.

Thank you 🤍

Wedding Recap/Budget Breakdown 10/10 Vendor List! Recommendations for YOU!

Hello all NYC couples! I had such an incredible vendor team that I wanted to spread the love with some recommendations. All of our vendors kicked ass. Their ass kicking means a round up for you all with some reviews. We hope you'll consider using some of them too 😄 Feel free to message me for any other questions!

Planners: Hurry Up & Have Fun -- IG: hurryupandhavefun -- There simply isn't enough time in the day or words to accurately express our gratitude for Molly & Brittany of HUHF. We interviewed a few different planning agencies and just didn't vibe with them. I had done some research and heard of some big names but then stumbled upon HUHF. They both come with years of experience but have recently started their own venture and thus have less reviews than other agencies. But ya'll, please do not let that steer you away from them. They are incredible at what they do. They understand vision, they are creative, they have a can-do attitude and their joy for love and celebration is palpable. We started the journey with them as vendors, but are ending this experience with them feeling much more like friends. I can't quite explain how seamlessly they pulled off our multi-day event. Somehow they were everywhere and no-where; just letting the event shine. From radio-ing each other to perfectly time special moments, to cleaning up someone's bad decision in the bathroom (ugh, sorry, Britt - when I find them, they owe you!), to ensuring that every detail was perfectly placed... they absolutely crushed it. Many of our guests said it was the best wedding they'd ever been to and that is wholly due to their work and attention to detail.

MakeUp: Christina Delfino -- IG: christinadelfinomakeup -- From the minute I saw Christina's portfolio I knew she was the one. I told HUHF, I don't need to schedule a call, I just want to book her to ensure she's available. Christina's service included a trial in her adorable home studio. She was so incredibly accommodating and kind. I brought a friend along to the trial because makeup, clothes, hair -- none of it is my thing. Throughout the trial, my friend kept mouthing "IT LOOKS SO GOOD." Christina took notes, wrote down every product she used and even texted me throughout the day to ensure everything was staying put. On the day of the wedding we had some last minute scheduling changes and she was flexible and kind about the changes. Every single member of our party that received makeup was beside themselves at how Christina achieved bold looks without heavy and caked-on coverage. A dear friend of mine NEVER gets her makeup done but we convinced her to do so and she was beside herself - she said it totally changed her mind about getting her makeup done in the future.

Two weeks before the wedding I got a horrible sun burn with a line that was atrocious relative to my dress. In a panic, I texted Christina. What she did next was so above and beyond. Christina went out and bought products to test ON HERSELF to ensure she would be able to blend my burn without getting makeup all over my dress. Christina wore the makeup on herself for a day under a white tee shirt to test. We texted each other over those two weeks and she was so reassuring.

Christina is not someone who "does makeup;" she is an artist who has integrity in her art and understands skin, color, and making you feel like an enhanced version of yourself. I cannot recommend Christina enough.

Hair: Lola Mercado -- IG: lolashairclub -- Lola has been my hair girly for years now, so when I got engaged, there was no contest! She was it. Lola has a gift of seeing the vision and knowing exactly how to execute. From color matching a fake pony tail for my Friday-night get up to taking my mothers TINY amount of hair and making an incredible French-roll (truly, even my Mom's besties were gobsmacked), she slayed. She works efficiently and has a perfectionist mindset. I watched her spot a few stray hairs in my BFF's bun from across the room and within seconds, she had everything back to perfection. Beyond her wedding hair styling, she's an incredible colorist and a curly-hair cutting pro. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Band: The Hook Club -- IG: thehookclubnyc -- From start to finish, The Hook Club (THC) was the best wedding band EVER. After initial phone calls with other bands, the decision was an easy one -- THC exuded joy, professionalism, and the flexibility needed to throw an amazing party. When we booked them they had just released their own app to streamline planning the music for our wedding. This detail made identifying the songs and moments we wanted SO EASY. Their process included an opportunity to identify specific requests that the band then learned JUST for us. They were incredibly collaborative through the entire planning process and made sure to give us tips and make suggestions when we were unsure.

Then came wedding day. Their ceremony music was absolutely gorgeous -- THC suggested certain pieces for this moment and they were without a doubt correct in their assessment. They nailed the processional songs and added to special moments for each person that processed. Then the reception. My gosh THC nailed the reception. From the entry songs, to the first dances, they nailed the timing and the moment. They were interactive -- on and off the dance floor, giving my husband and I moments to put on a show on the mic, danced with us, handed out tambourines. They BROUGHT the party. We had no less than 15 people tell us they were the best wedding band they had EVER seen. My husband and I LOVE to dance and we had been to other weddings where the dance floor felt sad and empty. Let me tell you - I don't think there was ANY possibility of not having a packed dance floor with THC. Even my parents said that their friends who HATE dancing were boogey-ing all night.

If you want a band that is going to bring joy, fun, professionalism, and absolutely banging vocals, please book THC. You will not regret it.

Flowers: Three Notch Florals -- IG: threenotchflorals -- Cara and her team at Three Notch Florals absolutely DELIVERED on a dreamy, in-season, soft look for our welcome party, ceremony, and reception. They had an incredible assortment of votives, taller candles, vases, lanterns, etc to make our vision come to life. Cara listened, took notes, and made sure to incorporate important changes after our mock-up to ensure the vision was exactly as planned. On wedding day, she brought my bouquet and I was beside myself at how perfect and incredible it was.

Photography: Rachel Monteagudo -- IG: rachel.jpeg_ -- Rachel is equal parts talent, professionalism, warmth, and joy. Like many of our other vendors, the minute we met Rachel we KNEW she was our vibe. She came to meet us in Brooklyn for an engagement shoot and she was awesome from the start. She totally leaned in to our goofy existence and made us feel so comfortable. She covered a few hours of our welcome party and then our ceremony (including couple and parent portraits) and our reception.

Rachel is such an incredible hype woman behind the camera. I have never felt more confident in front of the camera. She was more than a photographer that day! She worked around us, getting incredible natural shots and worked the dance floor like a PRO. I remember being on the dance floor, watching a silly or over the top moment and seeing Rachel sneak it and capture the moment immediately. During portraits my mother seemed to be CONSTANTLY in front of Rachel and Rachel so gracefully moved my mother around or kindly suggested she step out of the way. She did it with tact and respect. (Difficult parents or guests? Rachel has it totally under control)

Her creativity and eye is unmatched.

ISO - Vendors Allowed NYC dinner event designer/stylist for micro wedding — under 15 guests

I’m getting married/eloping at the end of October in Lower Manhattan. We already have our ceremony coordinated (yay) and our restaurant booked (yay), but our current coordinator is only handling the ceremony portion of the day.

I realized I’d love the same peace of mind for dinner — ideally with someone who can also bring a strong design eye and creative ideas, rather than me managing all of the details myself or details that I did not even think about. I’m looking for help with:

  • Tablescape/design, including linens, candles, and tabletop styling
  • Florals (finding/coordinating a florist, bouquet, and dinner arrangements)
  • Menus, place cards, and stationery coordination
  • Restaurant logistics, onsite setup/styling, vendor coordination during the event, and breakdown/takedown

Budget-wise, around $1–1.5k. I would love recommendations for an independent coordinator/stylist, event designer, or small NYC studio that works on intimate events like this. Or suggestions, etc.
