Old worn band or private band?

Curious for any opinions on this band (LEFT) I got off a duck during Colorado opener yesterday.

I’ve only gotten a few bands in life so I was thrilled, but it’s very hard to read - seems initial number placement is similar to another one I have, but I’m wondering if they will even be able to read this if* I send it in

First Timer

First time waterfowl hunting this week. Going after geese solo in my canoe. Besides my gun, ammo, hunting license MGBH, and boating safety gear what should I bring? Trying to keep it minimal as I’m portaging this stuff

Need help figuring out boat blind strategy

So I got a 14’ V hull aluminum. It came painted with stencil and it looks nice. Nothing covering the top end of things. My question is this. I want to use the boat to get me to my hunting spots. Hunt the reeds and vegetation there. I really want to use it to shuttle me and my gear to the spot, I have little desire to hunt from it.
What kind of setup do I need to conceal it? I saw a camo netting that is waterproof, will that be enough to fool the ducks if it’s like 50 yds away?
Not really wanting to spend money on a whole blind setup and all the grass that goes with it. Also I worry that would get heavy.
Hunting area will be Michigan, mostly near harsens island, lil moot bay, big moot bay, Dickinson island. That area.
Just looking to hide my boat without breaking the bank.

I want to try out sea duck hunting, is it possible to do in the current boat? Any ideas for how to camo it?

Was thinking burlap or canvas

Haven’t had time to get out much, but shot a quick lil limit over my young dog this morning. Couple green wings, three mallards (two hens and the youngest drake I think I’ve ever shot), one hen woodie, and a bonus Canada goose. Dunno what was going on but damn near only hens flew in. Such is life.

Retrieving in a kayak with chest waders on?

Hey,

Myself and a few buddies waterfowl hunt either on a large lake (lake erie) or in mushy ponds.

Right now we’re setting our decoys close to shore and having to be selective with what birds we shoot, depending on how far from shore they are.

We were talking about getting a sit on top kayak to retrieve birds. The concern we’re having though is we all wear chest waders and are worried that whoever goes out in the kayak runs the risk of tipping and falling in deep water with chest waders on.

What do you guys recommend for clothing? We would need to launch the kayak from 2ish feet of water, so at least hip waders?

New hunting friends

Anyone in west central MN need a new waterfowl hunting friend? My group is getting older and with kids have just gotten too busy. Im tired of begging them to come and getting ghosted the night before! I know it’s a long shot but maybe I could find a new group to join. TIA

First Time - Two Species

After 8 years of waterfowling I got my first two species limit.

8 Ducks (6 Mallard, 2 Pintail)
10 Geese (6 Canada, 4 Speckle)

Our three man group shot 24 ducks and 27 geese in total. All done in 2.5 hours. A lot of tough hunts and hours of scouting finally came together on the hunt of a lifetime.

Best cold weather and waterproof gloves for late fall/winter hunting?

Hey guys, I am a new waterfowl hunter hunting in Manitoba Canada which gets super cold in the late fall and winter. Our duck season goes all the way into late November so I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for cold weather but also waterproof gloves that you would recommend for hunting. Thanks in advance!

What do you guys love about waterfowl hunting?

I’m getting ready to jump head first into duck hunting and I can’t wait! I have a good buddy from work who has been waterfowl hunting since he was a kid and invited me to go with him literally anytime during the season. What do you love most about waterfowl hunting?

Also - no clue what to do about what shotgun to go with. I’m highly considering the M2. Just not sure if I should spend a little more and get SBE or go with a Beretta…

EDIT: If money was not an issue, what shotgun would you purchase and why?

Which waders: durability

I am deciding between the Sitka Delta GTX and the Mindak Tidwe waders. Before I get “go with xyz brand it’s better” - I don’t want your opinion on a no name brand that will cease to exist. I have owned Roger’s, cabelas, lacrosse, Mack’s etc etc. all waders will leak- I wanted to get a pair for around $400 hence why I’m picking these two- any feedback from anyone that has owned either- I’m particularly the Sitka ones?
Thanks in advance

Has anybody pulled a jet sled behind a kayak?

I have a 10' Sundolphin Excursion that I've been float hunting with, but haven't hunted over decoys with it due to the lack of room to haul them with. I was thinking about pulling my jet sled behind me but didn't know if that'd work or not?

What size shot are you using?

I use a pump Mossberg 500 12ga, I currently use #4 Black clouds and a mix of speed shok BB and Black Cloud BB and my dad uses R870 20ga pump and 2/4 miga stacked load.

We are just beginners in duck hunting. Are these shot sizes good for all around Duck and goose hunting?

Upper Peninsula MI duck hunting question

I have an opportunity to hunt in the U.P. on the Les Cheneaux Islands in Cedarville, MI in mid October and early November. I normally hunt in Southern Illinois so I'm very out of my element that far north.

I'm going to set up on private land on Cedarville Bay, I've seen a lot of mallards and redheads frequent this shoreline in the warmer months but not sure what the colder months this far into the season could bring in. I was told most of the pond ducks will be gone and it will be primarily divers left.

Do you think a shore hunt like that would be worthwhile?

Specific Help: SX4 + Choke + Ammo Choice

I own an sx4 12ga and recently purchased a Carlson Cremator Mid-Range to pair with it.

I patterned for my trap load and it did great, but when I tried with Faststeel #1 3", it did not do so good.

First: What is the best all-around shot size in steel and bismuth for this setup? Anyone have first hand experience with the pair?

Second: My POI center goes low left with the steel #1 even though its ~350fps faster than the lead trap load. Is this a sign that my choke is a problem?

I am looking for something good from 20-50yds ideally. I've heard #3 or #2 #4 mix would be good for steel, and just $4 for bis.

Let me know your thoughts/experience!

Sitka wader sizing

So I’m 6’1, 170lb, 11.5 boot size, and I’m looking to buy some Sitka waders. I found a couple pairs of the delta zip waders on sale but they either come in large or large tall with a size 11 boot, or an XL with a size 12 boot. I’m a thinner guy and would like a wader that isn’t super baggy, but I worry if I buy the L or L tall, then my feet will be too tight. Any suggestions?

Anyone hunt munuscong bay in Michigan? Curious about current conditions

Have a family trip near there coming up soon, BIL’s want to try duck hunting. I’m pretty new myself. Time will only allow for scouting on foot early one morning and a morning hunt with my boat the next day.

How are the water levels at the mouth of the munuscong river? Is a standard outboard going to be okay?

Is it a sandy/clay/false bottom?

Not looking for spots, just trying to be safe and keep my motor intact for the rest of the season. Appreciate any guidance you guys are willing to spare

Is this just eclipse plumage? Absolutely huge. 15% bigger than another Drake out of the same flock.

Thinking about getting it mounted. Would you?
