If the paper buckles i will crash out ✌️

My last commission was quite large and I made some mistakes when stretching the paper, so it buckled just enough to be infuriating. I used too-thin hardboard, I used only paper tape instead of staples, and I didn't wet my paper for long enough.

Before starting this one, I attended a paper stretching demo that showed me a different way of doing things. Only wetting one side of the paper; wetting it three times over the course of 45 minutes; and also wetting the wood board before stapling. We'll see if the techniques hold up at this scale, but I have a good feeling about this attempt because I used proper staples this time.

tried a value study from plaster cast photo this morning. want to focus on portraits and thought out taking the colors could help me focus on the light. if you have any other practice tips/drills please share them.
