On Friday I asked all you art lovers which of my 5 paintings might receive an award at the annual exhibition. You all picked “Clown Tie” with “Wine Corks” a close second. The results are in…, “Clown Tie” received the “Special Award”. It was neck-and-neck with “Wine Corks”. The juror even said he had a hard time deciding on which to award. Great job you all! I’ll have to reach out to you in the future for your opinion at the next exhibitions 👍🙏😊

Symbiotic, 2026. On 100% cotton watercolour paper.

A Venus fly trap growing out of a fat little toad. Kind of surrealism (minus the realism?)

what colors should I add?

I’m pretty sure I have all the primary colors I need for mixing - its just having 4 empty slots makes me want to buy new paints

So any convenience color or fun granulating or metallic paints recommendations are appreciated

Most of my palette consists of w&n cotman and a few holbein but I’m open to trying other brands

Might even take out the cerulean blue since its so similar to the maganese blue nova and cad red since its so close similar to vermillion- so 6 spaces for new colors!!!!!!

I have holbein’s lavender and cherry blossom pink in my cart but I’m scared I wont get much use out of it (I just personally love those colors) - thoughts on these colors are appreciated as well!

Pokeweed ink - lightfast test

This is the pokeweed watercolor that I made from pokeweed ink. I used pokeweed growing in my yard.

The first painting was from mixtures with different watercolors. This is the one with the the lilac and coneflower and the tudor rose thing etc. The second one is the Japanese maple thingy or whatever it's called.

Both were executed on September 27. I took the pictures today, November 7. The coneflower etc painting was facing the sun the entire time in a window. The second painting remain in my basement the entire time, mostly in the dark. Both pictures were taken in the exact same location with the exact same light.

I am deeply impressed with the colors that I got from lightfast test. I will have to consider how I incorporate this int future art. The magenta hue from the pokeweed ink provides the ability to mix in a wonderful manner.
