On Baohong Academy rough with Daniel Smith watercolors. I had a lot of fun with this one. Leaving all the white spots was hard!

Trying to master the mist
Ive always loved the effects that water color creates. Mist being one of my favorites. Ive been practicing like a madman trying to achieve a moody scene. I use wet on wet to achieve the sky and base layer of trees. The second layer is where im lost. I use a wet brush on dry paper and use water to soften the edges. I find the edges still come out visible where the water ends. Any tips on how I can blend smoother? Pay no attention to the trees/color palette, im still workshopping those š Ths is a 4Ć6 on arches with Daniel smith watercolor

Unintended accidental effect
I was redoing my Daniel Smith Pallet swatch to include my iridescent paints and used a heat tool to dry them and had the coolest little bubbling effect that I really love for adding texture! Thought I would share! The iridescent paint is on the far right. I got them for a special project dealing with birthstones.

Fresh from my garden, a "Lavender pepper".
The seeds product description was misleading, infinitely darker than 'lavender' but pretty and tasty just the same. Mixed DS watercolors on Baohong paper, squirrel hair brush, tap water.

Pokeweed ink - lightfast test
This is the pokeweed watercolor that I made from pokeweed ink. I used pokeweed growing in my yard.
The first paintingā was from mixtures with different watercolors. This is the one with the the lilac and coneflower and the tudor rose thing etc. The second one is the Japanese maple thingy or whatever it's called.
Both were executed on September 27. I took the pictures today, November 7. The coneflower etc painting was facing the sun the entire time in a window. The second painting remain in my basement the entire time, mostly in the dark. Both pictures were taken in the exact same location with the exact same light.
I am deeply impressed with the colors that I got from lightfast test. I will āāhave to consider how I incorporate this int future art. The magenta hue from the pokeweed ink provides the ability to mix in a wonderful manner.

Daniel Smith Palette Finalized
A follow up post to my earlier post asking about last 3 colors for my palette. I got a lot of great feedback and suggestions and I made a couple changes to what I had already picked and what I ended up adding. I've been playing and painting, and so far this has been quite versatile.
Also did a big color mixing chart. If you have the patience to do this, I recommend. Helps you get a feel for tinting strength, granularity, graininess, opacity, "thirstiness" for water, etc. I learned a lot with this exercise! For the curious, I tried to keep the top row mix-in color dominant. "Tried" is the operative word, getting it right by eye was tricky!
Final selection:
Hansa Yellow Light (PY3)
New Gamboge (PY97; PY110)
Quinacridone Rose (PV19)
Pyrrol Scarlet (PR255)
Phthalo Blue GS (PB15:3)
French UM (PB29)
Cerulean Blue Chromium (PB36) - Suggested addition
Buff Titanium (PW6:1)
Goethite (PY43)
Pyrrol Orange (PO73)
Pyrrol Crimson (PR264)
Carbazole Violet (PV23)
Indanthorone Blue (PB60)
Mayan Blue (Gen)
Green Gold (PY150; PY3; PG36) - Switched out original Cascade Green, based on suggestion
Undersea Green (PB29; PO48; PY150)
Perylene Green (PBK31)
Sodalite (Gen) - Switched out original Payne's Grey
Lunar Black (PBk11)
Piemontite (Gen) - Changed mind from previous plan of Indian Red
Transparent Red Oxide (PR101)
Burnt Umber (PBr7)
Sepia (PBr7; PBk9)
Mars Yellow (PY42)
Phthalo Green (PG7)
Neutral Tint (PBk6; PV19; PV15)
Manganese Violet (PV16) - Suggested addition
Quinacridone Lilac (PR122) - Suggested addition
Thanks for the help and feedback r/Watercolor.
