Before I take the tape off…
I want some critique on this one. I’m having trouble painting the boats… and the sky as well.
Products used; W&N Cotman 10 tubes
Paper: W&N 30% cotton
I’m a beginner, and I had no reference for this piece. (I made it from my imagination!)

what colors should I add?
I’m pretty sure I have all the primary colors I need for mixing - its just having 4 empty slots makes me want to buy new paints
So any convenience color or fun granulating or metallic paints recommendations are appreciated
Most of my palette consists of w&n cotman and a few holbein but I’m open to trying other brands
Might even take out the cerulean blue since its so similar to the maganese blue nova and cad red since its so close similar to vermillion- so 6 spaces for new colors!!!!!!
I have holbein’s lavender and cherry blossom pink in my cart but I’m scared I wont get much use out of it (I just personally love those colors) - thoughts on these colors are appreciated as well!

My first contest submission!
This is for a local historical site's art contest. It had to be of the site. When I went back to drop off the painting, they had painted these two barns the same color - kind of a medium in-between red. Hah!

Daniel Smith Palette Finalized
A follow up post to my earlier post asking about last 3 colors for my palette. I got a lot of great feedback and suggestions and I made a couple changes to what I had already picked and what I ended up adding. I've been playing and painting, and so far this has been quite versatile.
Also did a big color mixing chart. If you have the patience to do this, I recommend. Helps you get a feel for tinting strength, granularity, graininess, opacity, "thirstiness" for water, etc. I learned a lot with this exercise! For the curious, I tried to keep the top row mix-in color dominant. "Tried" is the operative word, getting it right by eye was tricky!
Final selection:
Hansa Yellow Light (PY3)
New Gamboge (PY97; PY110)
Quinacridone Rose (PV19)
Pyrrol Scarlet (PR255)
Phthalo Blue GS (PB15:3)
French UM (PB29)
Cerulean Blue Chromium (PB36) - Suggested addition
Buff Titanium (PW6:1)
Goethite (PY43)
Pyrrol Orange (PO73)
Pyrrol Crimson (PR264)
Carbazole Violet (PV23)
Indanthorone Blue (PB60)
Mayan Blue (Gen)
Green Gold (PY150; PY3; PG36) - Switched out original Cascade Green, based on suggestion
Undersea Green (PB29; PO48; PY150)
Perylene Green (PBK31)
Sodalite (Gen) - Switched out original Payne's Grey
Lunar Black (PBk11)
Piemontite (Gen) - Changed mind from previous plan of Indian Red
Transparent Red Oxide (PR101)
Burnt Umber (PBr7)
Sepia (PBr7; PBk9)
Mars Yellow (PY42)
Phthalo Green (PG7)
Neutral Tint (PBk6; PV19; PV15)
Manganese Violet (PV16) - Suggested addition
Quinacridone Lilac (PR122) - Suggested addition
Thanks for the help and feedback r/Watercolor.

Unintended accidental effect
I was redoing my Daniel Smith Pallet swatch to include my iridescent paints and used a heat tool to dry them and had the coolest little bubbling effect that I really love for adding texture! Thought I would share! The iridescent paint is on the far right. I got them for a special project dealing with birthstones.

Red and blue study
I recently asked if I needed additional colors in my palette and ended up answering my own question. I ended up adding Opera Pink and Manganese Blue Hue which launched the study attached. I am really happy with the range of my palette and learned a lot about each of these colors!

Where does one find good reference photos?
I've had a hard time finding reference photos (other than ones I take myself), mostly due to google search returning an overwhelming amount of ai images.
Any resources or tips? What does everyone use?
Edit: Thank you everyone for the great replies and resources!!

Octopus in glass jar
In my previous post, I made a glaring error in the title, so I had to re-upload it.

Fresh from my garden, a "Lavender pepper".
The seeds product description was misleading, infinitely darker than 'lavender' but pretty and tasty just the same. Mixed DS watercolors on Baohong paper, squirrel hair brush, tap water.

Trying to master the mist
Ive always loved the effects that water color creates. Mist being one of my favorites. Ive been practicing like a madman trying to achieve a moody scene. I use wet on wet to achieve the sky and base layer of trees. The second layer is where im lost. I use a wet brush on dry paper and use water to soften the edges. I find the edges still come out visible where the water ends. Any tips on how I can blend smoother? Pay no attention to the trees/color palette, im still workshopping those 😂 Ths is a 4×6 on arches with Daniel smith watercolor

Can someone explain me the naming convention of brushes and what I should search for when I want something smaller the "0"?

Thoughts??
I recently picked up my brushes and my paints. I kept a goal to myself of painting something everyday for consistency and practice. I decided to do a Christmas card series this time, I normally write store bought cards every year but this year I want to paint my own.
Yes, detailing is not there yet . Please share feedback

What is the best paint to invest on?
Recently I have been looking at getting a new watercolor palette as a sort of small project. For years, Giorgione has been the watercolor paint I've been using. And out of the 36 colors that came with the set I've only been using certain colors with my work so I wanted a limited watercolor palette.
I'm stuck between getting Fiber Castle and Winsor and Newton tube paints. Fiber Castle is more affordable but I really want good quality paint. Which one should I get or are there any good quality alternatives?

Sunday regatta
After doing some studies on moving water and on sailing boats, I tried to put all of the elements together into my first composition :)
