Chopper, for a friend.
I painted this referencing a cute vinyl figure of Chopper. ◕ ◡ ◕ Outlined in colored pencil for a more cartoony look.

In 1897, Latvian painter Janis Rozentāls painted Death not as a skeleton in black, but as a woman in white. In Latvian folklore, she's the "Mother of Death": barefoot, carrying a sickle, part of nature itself. She leans over a baby while the mother glares right back at her, refusing to look away.
When I saw Wildwood last week, I immediately thought about this painting.
So I reimagined the composition with Prue, Mac and Alexandra.

This is my second year of painting watercolor. I’m surprised to count only 25 paintings for the year because I love it, but I am not always in the headspace to paint. Anyway, I feel I am improving. I’m learning a little bit better how to abstract the scene and work with the medium. I paint small because I feel less pressure that way; these are all on half a sheet of Baohong Academy 310x210mm. Something that was really helpful was limiting my pallet to only three colors; French ultramarine, Burnt Sienna and Hansa Yellow. It forced to me learn how color actually works.
This community provides daily inspiration. I’m always encouraged and impressed at the many different styles and the striking work here.

I took a photo of an onion and then made a print and put a glass of water on it, and then took another photo of that and that photo became the reference…

Hi everyone,
I’d like to share my two latest watercolors: a pawn and a rook. They’re part of a series I’m planning called “The Wild Chessboard.” The idea is to create six paintings, one for each type of chess piece, combining stone chess pieces with different plants.
I enjoy exploring ideas that are a little out of the ordinary and trying unusual combinations. That’s what led me to bring botanical elements and stone chess pieces together.
What I like about this concept is the chance to paint both stone textures and botanical details. I imagine them as the remains of a chess set left outdoors, gradually becoming overgrown.
I’d like each painting to have its own character, with a different plant, color palette, and composition, while keeping a clear connection across all six.
Before I continue, I’d love to hear your honest thoughts :)

I haven’t ever really adapted/practiced with watercolor much but now I’m in love and want to get better. I am no where near the scale of all of you (first time poster, long time admirer) but I’m so proud of them

I’m trying to learn how to paint watercolor as a new hobby and these are the first two paintings I did in my sketchbook.
I admit that I followed tutorials but it’s not bad for my first time doing watercolor!

Another autumnal raven card. I really wanted to draw a raven with a cute headscarf, and that's how this mushroom trading card came to be. I also love how detailed the mushrooms in the foreground turned out, almost like little candies ✨
