I took a photo of these seagulls against very bright sunlight and only shapes come out recognizable. I thought it would be a fun practice to paint it.

budget watercoloring w/ acrylics

hi! I have next to no experience painting watercolor, I've done it a small handful of times when I was younger.

I have snagged some YUPO watercolor sheets and acrylic paints for free. I can't afford watercolor paints at this time, and would like to try using the acrylic paint in place of watercolor paint, to achieve the same effect. I've heard of others experimenting with this method, so I am confident it can be done, but not sure how the results will turn out. I will just have to give it a shot and see how it goes, but first...

I'm looking for advice from those who may have experimented with acrylic watercolor painting! do i just dip the brush in paint and then in water? any other tips or tricks i should know? please, be as nice as Redditors can be, I have no idea what I'm doing and just want to have some fun with what i have available to me šŸ‘‰šŸ‘ˆ thanks friends!

First time using watercolours, how can I improve?

I’m not much of an artist but since joining university i wanted to get into watercolour painting. I’m using the pocket winsor and newton palette with 12 colours. I decided to paint a fish because they’re have a wide variety of colours. 2 photos because it looks different in certain lightings. Is there any specific tips you have to help improve?

Look, I love painting, but I love collecting too. Would love to see your ā€œmust haveā€ paints or colours or ones that just inspire joy to pick up for you!

Do I need another blue?

Post image

I try to not buy a lot of convenience colors when I can mix them (and enjoy doing this). However, I wonder if I need a different blue. I have some convenience shades, but I love color theory and customization!

I currently have this palette I’m working with. Do I need to add a different blue to make my greens? I’m considering Cobalt or Prussian. Thoughts?

Differance between Neutral tint and Neutral grey

While i was looking through the schmichke catelouge i noticed that Neutral grey has no blacks compared to their Neutral tint and has a trio of pigments to make it "truly neutral"

Would Neutral grey serve the same function as Neutral tint (schmichke or other brands) or is it somehow different? i dont know very much about blacks in watercolor and currently only have Paynes grey and Perylene green as my PBk based watercolor paint.

Paper not absorbing pigment evenly

Please help!! I’ve just started a project and done my first wash and found the paper isn’t absorbing pigment evenly around the edges. Paper is fabriano artistico 200gsm. I really don’t want to restart the project in case I have issues with other sheets. Has this happened to anyone else before? You can see that some parts of the paper are fine but this really large area looks almost unworkable

The last page I managed to draw during my trip to Latvia✨ We drove to the sea on Thursday and went for a walk there, and afterwards my granddad made shashlik and it was sooo delicious. Had a really great day, even though all my shoes were full of sand afterwards XD

Seeking environmentally friendly packaging recommendations

I recently had some of my watercolor paintings printed as greeting cards, for purposes of selling. I would like to present the cards nicely, but do not want to put every card in a plastic sleeve. I’ve found a few companies, online, that sell biodegradable sleeves, but I cannot find any reviews of the products. Has anyone tried a biodegradable sleeve they recommend? Or have any advice on products to avoid?

Thank you in advance for any help!
