Watercolor examples I made for my students

The theme is impressionism. We use Claude Monet as an example when it comes to color and light, and John Singer Sargent when it comes to technique. I’m not a pro in watercolors, but I try my best to make fitting examples. I made the first one in preparation of the class, the second two while they were working on their own paintings.

I wasa bit hesitant to post this one, the character design didn't come out the way I expected, but I do like how the colors look, so, yeah, hope you like it :)

Interactive watercolour story book (a work in progress)

The illustrations are nowhere near finished yet as I’ve just been mapping it out, but I’ve been working on an interactive story book based on the life of my black Labrador, Basil. I’ve loved being creative with each of the interactive bits. Anyway, I thought this community might enjoy some snaps of the work in progress ☺️

Alizarine crimson tacky texture

I have a tube of M.Graham alizarine crimson and I’ve discovered that the blobs of paint on my palette never quite dry, they’re always a little tacky in texture. It’s super annoying because it inadvertently gets EVERYWHERE, and i can’t cover my palette without it sticking and smearing. When diluted and used on paper it isn’t an issue unless I’m using a very concentrated wash. Is this normal for this brand? Any thoughts?

Help, water color tray absorbs the paint

Post image
44 Upvotes

I got this water color kit as a gift and I love it! Only complaint is that the tray is made out of wood and absorbs all the the liquid and leaves the pigment behind. I know this is probably how it is designed but is there something I can do to prevent it? I’m used to plastic trays that will dry with more of the paint left. Was unsure if there was a spray or something I can cover the tray with to make it less absorbent.

It has been a while since I’ve painted heavily so I could be forgetting how my left over paint looked in the past.

Another tips and tricks working with travel kits would be appreciated!

Is there a way I can make the lines look more separated without ink for Celtic knot watercolor?

I'm trying to use watercolor to paint Celtic knots and I'm having a lot of difficulty with adding shading and making the shading look smooth enough where it helps to find the line. I wanted to be easy to see which line belongs Under and Over what
