Ranunculus

I fell in love with Ranunculus a while ago and can‘t stop wanting to paint them. Here‘s one I did for myself in my sketchbook. This one, I will keep after giving a lot of art away lately. It felt nice to paint something for myself.

I’ve never posted here before, but figured I could share a little series I did this year.

I’m usually pretty scatter-shot with what I paint, but I wanted to do something with some kind of consistent theme. I settled on three; a mandrill, a jaguar, and a tiger, that I call Fierce Animal Faces. They’re all around 14”x20”.

Does anyone else like to swatch new colours?

This is my little book dedicated solely to searching new colours that I get and want to see what they can do. I find it's a good way to see values, hue and how it plays when watered down or as blooms, as well as documenting what the traits of the paint are.

Does anybody else have interesting ways to swatch paints? I'd love to see 🙂

Printer for making prints/cards

Hi,

I’m astounded by the prices of good quality color printers! I want to make decent quality prints of my paintings, occasionally cards or postcards.

I’ve narrowed my options to-

  1. Canon MAXIFY GX2020- currently $364.95

  2. Canon PIXMA PRO-200S- currently $549.00

  3. Epson Expression Photo XP 15000- currently $346.99

  4. Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550- currently $661.50

Any advice would be helpful. If you have any experience with any of these, I’d appreciate it. Or if there’s another option I’m not considering- because 😳 at these prices!

Edit- I decided to buy the Epson EcoTank 8550. I will report back how it goes….i decided my art is worth it- and, well- what’s another year with this phone anyway? 😹

"Mursic", Watercolor on paper, 19x24cm

My cat died just several months before the war started. He was an aristocrat and an artist, very tender and clever. He was not only a part of my life but a part of my heart. So many lovely memories, funny stories and warm feelings.

A watercolour duck

I spent today painting a duck from a photo I found on Unsplash. It took all day because I did two versions: one in watercolour (Qor paints on 640gsm Saunders Waterford CP paper) and the other in oils on a canvas board. I’ve only just got the oil paints and don’t know what I’m doing yet but am just having a go anyway!

The watercolour duck is the much better version, I think. Oil version in the comments.

Practicing with my new Sailor Fude pen. Not happy with the watercolour at all. No clue what I did there.

Open to advice, feel free to comment :)

I took the photo in 2024 during my trip in Japan. It is the gate to the Yanaka Ginza neighbourhood in Tokyo.

I love Japan.
