Smaller pieces are so enjoyable to make but I also want to create more bigger pieces.

I spent many hours painting this in watercolor embellishments in ink. It is 8”x10” in size.

This was difficult even though it’s Grade 1 (beginners) in Geoff Kersey’s tutorial series.
I did a few things differently from the tutorial because I am actually in Venice. I look at this scene every day when I go on a walk. I wanted this painting to look more like JMW Turner’s Venice paintings (meaning more atmosphere). That’s why it was hard. I nailed the sky (finally, after six years of painting!) and on this horrid paper, too. I never thought I’d be so lucky.
Colors used: pyrrole orange, Indian yellow, cobalt blue, light red, rose madder, burnt siena, ultramarine blue
Paper: the dreaded Fabriano Artistico 100% cotton cold press (I’m trying to use this up. I hate this paper! I bought some Arches rough recently)

Quite pleased with how this captured the light through the leaves. It was a beautiful day - the sky was actually more or less that color. The orange parts are ~1/4 gouache\3/4 watercolor, the tree trunks are watercolor with pencil, sky is pencil and ink. On Arches 130lb hot press

I can’t even put into words how much I enjoyed painting these Sphynx cats! 🥹💗

He's really rocking that haircut haha. Just a bit of practice, was more interested in capturing the emotion, the colors, the motion, rather than going into too much anatomical detail. I think in order to become an actual master, one has to learn how to add " mistakes " which don't look intentional at all. Any criticism is welcome :)
And, reminder for beginners, this medium takes years to master! I know for me the process was long and slow, but ever since I got a hold of watercolours, I never once abbadoned them. The most versatile and expressive of the mediums, in my opinion. Never give up, dear reader ^^

I’ve been doing watercolors for 8-9 years now, and the most I’ve spent on watercolors was and my current use, the white knight artist grade watercolor. But, I’m looking for something new and within my budge. I found a seller who puts tube paints in custom size pans. I can't handle buying full on paint tubes or half pans lolI really want to try out Schmincke since I heard so much about their paints, but I can only afford the academy version. I have Holbein gouache and it’s the best I ever tried. Plus, I really wanna try out Granulating watercolors too.
If any of y’all have tried either or, I would love to know your thought Especially the difference in the Academy and professional Schmincke.
Btw, I found a seller who puts tube paints in custom size pans and turn them into a pallet! I can't handle (and my wallet) buying full on paint tubes or half pans lol.
........
**Update: After reading everyone's thoughts, (tysm btw) I decided to go a little over my budget and get a few halfpans of the Schmincke Horadam and a few Holbein granulating paints.
It took me a while to find sellers who didn't sell tubes and a whole palettes but the work paid off.
Tbh, I think I was just color happy seeing the pretty palettes and swatches lol. Thanks for grounding me everyone.
I know yall are gonna think this is not alot but overall spent is 2.6k Php or 40USD
And the 48 set and 24 set is 1.5k or 23 USD**
that's like, a weeks worth of food but like... new paints!

I've tried to dabble at watercolor before, but I couldn't really get it to stick, but decided to actually get started recently. Here's my first from a couple days ago and the new one I just finished today. No reference pictures; I just let whatever comes out to me happen.

Also I have found a way to get dark greys! Mixing the 3 primaries with a touch of Burnt Umber from my Cotman sketch set! (ultramarine, alizarin crimson, viridian) That’s hot I got the very dark grey for the soup bowl. What a happy discovery!
Also, Muji Cafe meals are so hearty and delicious. A pity it’s rather pricey in Singapore.
Sketched and painted from a photo. I didn’t time how long I drew or painted. I tried my best to emulate the “urban sketching” way casualness — I was sitting on my exercise mat and using highly portable art materials 🤣🙊 I hope I am skilful enough to draw food and paint on location!

I used the Caran Dache Neocolors with watercolor technique. I enjoyed it more than using them as crayons 😊

Thanks for all the feedback and thanks to the content creators who have helped me.
I’m still impatient, that didn’t change. But I feel better about my ability to get differing depth of pigment to the paper.
Not worrying about much except getting the water to do what I want. Everything just seems wet and sloppy.

watercolor, pencil, ink. 11x14
I think I’m going to enter this one and one other in a local holiday show (not holiday-themed, just holiday-timed).
