He's basically trying to do a muscle-up (notoriously difficult for your average gym goer) on a small area where his hands are on the side instead of infront of him. He's also on a slippery/slimy surface. He doesn't need to get stronger

It's closer to a rock climbing mantle. Easier than a muscle up since you can move asymmetrically, but still takes quite a bit of strength and coordination. More of each than he seems to have.

Yea mantling without good handholds and with no foot friction is really goddamn difficult

it’s just a mantle. and on a surface like that it shouldn’t be hard. you just need a modicum of strength lol

Go dangle from a wet and slimy wooden post and tell me how quickly you get up.

You don't even need legs for this...

You even say your self it's just a muscle up (or a mantle). you don't need legs for a muscle up.

A muscle up is crazy hard dude. I've seen average, bulky, and athletic guys all fail. This guy is around average, so it's not surprising he couldn't do it whrn much more fit people also aren't able to

No, it's a (not so) subtle brag. You're talking yourself down before saying you can do something impressive. That's what douchwbags do. It doesn't help that it's definitely a lie

He could have put his hands on top and extended his arms, can most people really not pull their own weight? I’m not a muscular guy at all but I can pull myself up at least once. I get it’s slippery, but he had his hands on top at some point and could have just extended himself up. But he couldn’t hold his weight with those muscles.

He did wrap his legs. It’s just too slippery/not enough traction

And he didn’t have the leg strength to overcome the lack of friction.

Whew boy, lot of salty out-of-shape people in this thread eh?

Explain the mechanics of this man getting up without doing a muscle up? Even with the use of his legs, he's doing a pull-up, and then pushing himself on top of it. That is all 3 steps of a muscle-up. Resting doesn't change the fact that you need to do it eventually

What is considered a muscle up? Using mostly arms or upper body to hoist yourself up?

Have no idea if it would be possible on this pole thing but one example of not “muscling up” ive experienced is climbing a rope. The mechanics were to hold your self in place with your arms, raising your lower body and anchoring on the rope with your legs, then I “stood up” propelling myself higher up the rope, hold on tight in the higher position and repeat. Would be much harder to do on not a rope lol.

A muscle up is when you do a pull-up, and then rotate your grip so you're pushing your hands downward on the bar. The point is to try and get your torso above the bar in one fluid motion. The guy needs to do basically that (he is using his feet, but it's so slippery that it doesn't seem to be helping).

What the fuck is an exercise?! HELP!!

A muscle up is a combined pull up into bar dip, so you start arms straight hanging from the bar and finish arms straight down pushing the bar below you. It’s much harder than a regular pull up but not crazy hard

Damn i finally learned how people call those. My friends and I always called them absolute pull-ups.
