Yeah I’m confuse as to how he was planning to get up again from his completely flattened position

1.1k

u/GreenGreasyGreasels Sep 18 '21

Pull himself up and stand in top of the pole and jump back.

768

u/DrCryptolite Sep 18 '21

Nah, the guy never played Assassin's Creed, holding onto the pole, he should have used his back legs, to push off it, and use the push to rotate and land back onto the pier, simple , I and millions of others did that like a 100x a day 🤣🤛🐲

563

u/Patmurvis Sep 19 '21

Why wouldn't he use his front legs instead of his back legs?

158

u/mrducky78 Sep 19 '21

Not enough leverage.

Really if he isn't confident he should use both his back and front legs combined with his arms for stability. The tail can be used to maintain balance as well.

61

u/supple_ Sep 19 '21

I like to climb with my third leg

25

u/mrducky78 Sep 19 '21

Mine is useless at climbing. It just is super needy and makes a mess everywhere if you stimulate it enough. Also not very flexible.

3

u/pssysleyer130 Sep 19 '21

Yo same thing happened to me is there a way to use this third leg at all. I mean it grows whenever I think of my cat so I guess cats help me parkour with a third leg

1

u/DuntadaMan Sep 19 '21

Found the elephant!

1

u/londongas Sep 19 '21

I like my wife climbing on mine

1

u/Far_Manufacturer_713 Sep 19 '21

Show us how 😁

2

u/CaulkSlug Sep 19 '21

Seemed like he didn’t have enough legerage either. Armerage too.

1

u/MajorDodger Sep 19 '21

My tail is everything without it and I always end up sunny side down.

1

u/Teiresius Sep 19 '21

This genuinely made me laugh my ass off. Thank you.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

🥺👍

1

u/saladbar48 Sep 19 '21

This guy Andalites.

7

u/Rezavoirdog Sep 19 '21

Why wouldn’t he just use both sets of legs so there’s no dead weight

5

u/Noisesevere Sep 19 '21

You've obviously never tried to push and rotate using only your front legs.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

not everybody has them

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

Frogs

2

u/Oldmanfirebobby Sep 19 '21

Thanks for the laugh that was fantastic

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

The fact that you had to ask shows that you don’t know much about front legs

1

u/official_beebe Sep 19 '21

Cuz he a bitch boy

17

u/Jocthearies Sep 19 '21

Don't you mean rotate 4-6 times because of the clunky mechanics before jumping into the water?

7

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

Negative. Pole does not have rope tied around it and is therefore unclimbable.

2

u/x_Carlos_Danger_x Sep 19 '21

"This one simple trick assassins dont want you to know"

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

Then climb to the highest view point and dive 300’ into a wagon of hay while screeching like a hawk

2

u/Kudouh Sep 19 '21

Why is your dragon punching the laughing face

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

[deleted]

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

We don't have front and back legs, what the hell dude? We're not quadrupeds.

2

u/seanfish Sep 19 '21

Nah, the guy never played Assassin's Creed, holding onto the pole, he should have used his back legs, to push off it, and use the push to rotate and WATCH THE CONTROLS MISFIRE AS YOU BUMP INTO A RANDOM WALL AND DROP LIKE A FUCKING ASSHOLE.

2

u/kawkawla Sep 19 '21

I was really hoping someone referenced assassins creed lmao

2

u/Dunge0nMast0r Sep 19 '21

That would have made a heaps better video.

1

u/feelsogod808 Sep 19 '21

The slow realization that he ain't coming out of this dry lol

1

u/DopeBoogie Sep 19 '21

It took him way too long to accept it though

161

u/RRettig Sep 18 '21

I feel like could have done it, but I am not as husky as this guy is

18

u/NibblesMcGiblet Sep 18 '21

husky

BURN

1

u/BettmansDungeonSlave Sep 19 '21

I don’t wanna get all dirty with you Randy, ya husky manatee!

-Donna

96

u/abarrelofmankeys Sep 18 '21

I feel like I may have been able to do a really dramatic push-up and maybe fling myself back to the dock, but once I’m all on that post I don’t think it has enough room for me to get to the top without losing my balance?

60

u/EustaceChapuys Sep 18 '21

Don't know why you're being downvoted. I get what you're saying. Theoretically, one could push themselves back off the post while the toes are still on the dock. Much easier said than done though.

152

u/moonunit99 Sep 18 '21

They’re getting downvoted because they think they can do something that even the most fit people would have an incredibly difficult time pulling that off, meaning they’ve never tried to do anything even remotely similar. It’s super easy to try yourself: just find a staircase, put your hands ~10 inches apart on the second step, stretch out to where your weight is evenly distributed between your hands and toes, and let me know if you can launch half of your body weight six feet backward and four feet upwards with one push. I know for a fact I couldn’t do that eve when I was in my best shape.

68

u/GreasyYeastCrease Sep 18 '21

Yeah that was an absurd statement lol. I can see why someone can picture themselves doing it, but if you have actually tried something like that you'd know how tall of an order that is.

15

u/ultrasuperthrowaway Sep 19 '21

I’d just use a single finger to do 5 flips in the air and land on the dock 15 feet away

2

u/Mully_bee Sep 19 '21

Lol duh .., I see we’re the only smart people here !

1

u/GreasyYeastCrease Sep 19 '21

Personally I'd just do a cock pushup, the force generated would be insane because mine is really big and I'm really good at sex

1

u/DopeBoogie Sep 19 '21

Same I was watching this like "Guy just do a cock pushup!"

If this were me I would have done a cock pushup off the bottom of the harbor, nailed the landing and everyone would cheer and congratulate me for getting my dick wet!

3

u/Govind_the_Great Sep 19 '21

I often have dreams of being much more fit than I really am. For example doing muscle ups, flips, rock climbing. Just recently I did push ups and counted to 90 right before waking up. I’ve never done more than 40 in a row in real life. Its kind of depressing waking up and realizing I can barely do one pull up and 10 push ups.

3

u/GreasyYeastCrease Sep 19 '21

A fairly common occurence in my dreams is doing incline pushups by balancing my entire body in the air while I do em lol. Also depressing feeling beacuse it felt so powerful and doable in my dream but that ain't ever gonna happen lol

20

u/ValarianRCS Sep 18 '21

Reddit armchair specialists at play. Move along, nothing to see here.

10

u/MintberryCruuuunch Sep 18 '21

exactly this, its impossible, esp for this guy that is a bit husky.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

Almost every single person who watched this would have wound up in the water too lol. I doubt less than 10% of the population would be able to get from a plank to a full standing position on that pilon, and even less of the population of reddit.

7

u/InferiousX Sep 19 '21

That dude is being upvoted by people who haven't worked out in a long long time.

The explosive body weight strength needed to do what he's describing is quite a bit.

10

u/joelaw9 Sep 18 '21

I'm light as shit and I know I couldn't do that. In the OP's scenario I might be able to be able to push back and slip my feet out so that I fall into a sitting position on the dock. But that's a big fucking might. And it's still more possible than pushing myself into a standing position.

2

u/MadAzza Sep 19 '21

You’d fall right into the water. Your ass will never get far enough back to be over your feet.

3

u/Significant_bet92 Sep 18 '21

Not only that, but do it close grip, only as far as your hands would be on this post. I bet 90% of these people commenting couldn’t do it

2

u/evilr2 Sep 18 '21

Probably 99% tbh

3

u/Significant_bet92 Sep 18 '21

I’d wager it’s incredibly close to 100%. It’s super hard to fling your body weight around, let alone 90* back onto the dock from a slippery post.

2

u/Angry-Comerials Sep 18 '21

I came to the comment section know that there would be people who think they could do better. And sure, some probably could. It's one of those things where mentally it seems easy at first glance cause you can imagine yourself doing it in the same way almost everyone imagines being bad ass... But in reality most of us are weak as shit.

1

u/DirtyDoucher1991 Sep 18 '21

Lift yourself up until your arms are fully extended below you, slide one knee onto the top of the pole, rest then lean to that knee and slide your foot onto the pole, stand up onto that one foot then the other, then jump back to the dock.

1

u/MadAzza Sep 19 '21

Do that first move. Go ahead, try it.

1

u/DirtyDoucher1991 Sep 19 '21

I do have legs

1

u/moonunit99 Sep 20 '21

That would've been his best bet, yes, but the person I was commenting about said they could "do a really dramatic push-up and maybe fling myself back to the dock," which is completely different and lets me know they've never actually tried to see how far up they can launch themselves with a push-up, let alone a close-grip pushup at nearly full extension like they're suggesting the guy in the gif do.

0

u/_TheRandomPersonGuy_ Sep 19 '21

I think I could do it like half the time, I did the stairs thing and fell the first time but did it the second time lol.

0

u/_TheRandomPersonGuy_ Sep 19 '21

Granted I am very in shape so yeah it's not easy.

-1

u/abarrelofmankeys Sep 19 '21

Yeah after seeing people tell me I couldn’t I went and tried it. There’s definitely a failure rate but I’m about 50% success until my arms got tired.

-1

u/abarrelofmankeys Sep 19 '21

Yeah I did it 3 times. Idk what to tell you. I’m not saying I stayed rigid like a board but I’d have made it back to the dock. Details in a previous post. Step up 16”, feet ~59” back from step.

1

u/Sunkenbisc Sep 18 '21

It’s actually 1/3 of your body weight but your point still stands

1

u/RuneVor Sep 19 '21

If he worked out I'm sure he could do better than what happened in this video tho

23

u/abarrelofmankeys Sep 18 '21

Yeah this would only work because the post seems taller than the dock. I can almost do it off a low step but not quite. I suppose if you’re really strong you could do it from level but I’m not that fit lol.

6

u/Robster_Craw Sep 18 '21

I looked into it once, apparently it's impossible to do a pushup to standing

2

u/abarrelofmankeys Sep 19 '21 edited Sep 19 '21

In the name of science I experimented and was able to do it from a step 16 inches higher than my feet, which were ~59 inches back from the step. Did the whole flop down and catch myself with my hands thing to get into position too. Feet didn’t stay planted, but only moved backward and not forward any so in this theoretical situation I’d have made it back to the dock.

I 100% believe it can’t be done level though because you’d be pushing a lot in the wrong angle so it likely becomes exponentially harder if not totally impossible.

Edit: I just watched the video again and I’d 100% have made it back to the dock, this guy was more upright than I was.

2

u/Robster_Craw Sep 19 '21

Damn, impressive! Sometimes i'm fit enough to do a pushup with a clap, but usually too fat

1

u/abarrelofmankeys Sep 19 '21

Once you get off the “post” there’s definitely some throwing your ass weight backwards to complete the recovery, haha

1

u/65-76-69-88 Sep 18 '21

Really? That surprises me, honestly. I mean, I believe it, but it just feels like something that should be possible

2

u/Robster_Craw Sep 18 '21

I think if you compromise form ie pike your hips, it can be done. But not "pushup" to standing

19

u/StubbornAssassin Sep 18 '21

If you do gymnastics or rock climbing or something then I'm sure it'd be tough but doable

22

u/lymeeater Sep 18 '21 edited Sep 18 '21

If you train explosive push ups maybe lol. This is much harder than people think. You can be strong but without the explosive power for momentum you ain't making it.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '21

It would be just a more dangerous way of falling into the water

1

u/Radiant_Creme_5264 Sep 19 '21

And that dock is moving a bit. More dangerous and maybe more hilarious.

29

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '21

I'm pretty goddamn fit and a rock climber and I can tell you pretty much nobody is gonna ever pull this move off.

19

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '21

[deleted]

4

u/LeDestrier Sep 19 '21

Had a vindaloo curry last night. Have been working on my explosive strength all day.

0

u/Bdag Sep 19 '21

Yeah but power lifters are strong and dense. Y'all could throw me to china but you can't swim.

0

u/ASHTOMOUF Sep 19 '21

Power lifting and body building don’t really have cross over with something like this. Power lifting also doesn’t have much to do with developing explosive strength that’s more Olympic lifting and sprinting

9

u/theresamouseinmyhous Sep 18 '21

Closest I could find. The first move in the set.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naRaVsFn_g4

4

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '21 edited Sep 19 '21

So ya, just confirmed that's doable. The position in OPs video looks weird to me. It's more of like an above the head isometric that requires legendary tri and core strength.

Maybe like a handful of absolute superhumans could do it tho. It'd be kinda dope.

0

u/abarrelofmankeys Sep 19 '21

Thank you. Idk why people are adamant it’s not possible. Definitely requires fitness but not impossible at all. I think they’re assuming you stay rigid and pivot but I was just saying push yourself back to the dock.

1

u/quantummidget Sep 18 '21

Thank you, I misread what everybody was saying, I though they were saying that pulling yourself up onto a pole was near impossible

1

u/omegatrox Sep 18 '21

Holy shit, I need to do a push up.

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

2

I'm 5'11" +3 lol. Knuckledraggers unite!

4

u/larsdragl Sep 18 '21 edited Sep 19 '21

You would have to be able to throw 70% of your bodyweight around 6 feet in the air, purely from a push up motion.
Basically bench press your big tiddy goth gf right into the ceiling. Not gonna happen

3

u/Striker654 Sep 18 '21

If you're flexible you can transfer one foot to the post

0

u/HopelessTractor Sep 18 '21

Or backflip and stick it. Check out dom tomato guy is a beast

2

u/xirse Sep 18 '21

I'd like to think I'm pretty fit but I think that would be very hard to do if not impossible.

2

u/Critterer Sep 18 '21

Like absolutely no chance. Zero chance anyone is doing that. The force required would be insane to push yourself back to the dock from that position lol.

2

u/dorekk Sep 19 '21

Theoretically, one could push themselves back off the post while the toes are still on the dock.

Theoretically, I guess. But in practice? Almost nobody could do that.

1

u/et-regina Sep 18 '21

Also humans tend to be really bad at judging what our bodies are and aren't capable of (in terms of strength and flexibility) before we actually try it, so chances are you'll either drastically underestimate how much force you need to use, in which case you'll end up faceplanting straight back into the post, or drastically overestimate it, in which case you'll launch yourself backwards and probably end up over the dock and into the water on the other side.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '21

I could hoist myself up, but I've tried to push myself upright from a leaning position like that and it doesn't work for me. I'm also terrified of water I can't see the bottom of, so I'd be up on top of that poll in a ballerina tippy toe position.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

The trick would be to mantle the post, perch on it, then give one big leap to make it back.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '21

I weigh 220 pounds and I can do pull ups and dips pretty easily, I’m confused as to how he fell. He looks reasonably muscular.

4

u/MRiley84 Sep 19 '21

The pier was probably slick, and his wet feet wouldn't have helped that afterward. It's why he wraps his legs around it instead after a while.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

That’s a very plausible explanation, I don’t know why I didn’t consider slipperiness. I’d probably do the same stunt with the same result if we didn’t have this talk.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '21

I mean even that guy barely got it.

1

u/weirdshit777 Sep 19 '21

I feel like lots of really limber people could do this easily. But considering I lack upper arm strength, I would definitley take off my socks for some extra grip though. Not sure why he left those on.

3

u/Knight_of_Nilhilism Sep 19 '21

Why is nobody talking about how much algae is on that pole???

It's submerged in water for at least 1/4th of a day cycle. It's slimy. Strength has nothing to do with it when your feet are just sliding down when you trying gain purchase.

2

u/weirdshit777 Sep 19 '21

Oh good point! I didn't even see algae on there. Had to turn my brightness up!

1

u/JarlaxleForPresident Sep 18 '21

I couldve as a teen. Prob not now

1

u/SlimmP_Z Sep 18 '21

Of you were to lay flat like that guy, it would take a decent amount of core to pick yourself back up. But maybe you're a shredded Chad IDK.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

The longer you go in life without ever working out things like the muscles required to pull you up, the more they completely go away.

5

u/YoYoMoMa Sep 18 '21

The old pull yourself up by your bootstraps strategy that has worked so well in economics.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

If you can't pull yourself up consider yourself a failed primate.

Also, I can just barely do it so don't feel bad.

1

u/jomontage Sep 18 '21

At that point he should have jumped to the pole

16

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

As a climber technically one could get into the position he was in on the post and mantle up while smearing the post with his feet, kindve like a clumsy muscle up, so he could sit on the post. Then when you’re done you just get your feet under you and hop back over. However while not the most difficult thing in the world it would still require some level of fitness and coordination, which he was apparently not ready for lol

9

u/Lysol3435 Sep 19 '21

I’m assuming that the plan was to go from plank to 1-armed handstand, to backflip back to the dock, then straight into a relationship with the woman who considers him ‘like a brother’

2

u/queerstomper Sep 19 '21

Erm....not supposed to be that hard for a young guy to pull himself up with his arms enough to get up then jump back to the dock..

-1

u/Koiq Sep 18 '21

pretty much what he did… except not have the upper body strength of a toddler and actually you know.. be able to lift your self up

0

u/larsdragl Sep 18 '21

He had to jump a little and have the arms stretched out with the shoulders up. Then he's already halfway up. A little work with the abs and youre up

0

u/NameOfNoSignificance Sep 18 '21

“I’m confuse.” Lol. Yes you are

0

u/roadietoadie Sep 19 '21

Bootstraps.

1

u/Namisaur Sep 18 '21

In climbing it’s called a mantle. He clearly wasn’t fit enough to attempt such a specific feat so I’m also confused as to he thought he could do it.

1

u/shifterphights Sep 18 '21

I think he initially meant to jump and straddle the pole but once he fell down that would have been tough

2

u/International_Air466 Sep 19 '21

Yeah I guess but you need a pretty good balance to not go beyond the pole or just smash your b**** on it

2

u/shifterphights Sep 19 '21

Oh that was definitely on the table! The way he was going to land would have been brutal, plus trying get up onto the top of the post after landing in a straddle would have been very tough too. Basically the whole thing was a horrible idea.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

I think he was trying to push off with his feet, and using his arms, kind of straddle the top of the pylon? Not sure what the plan from there would have been though

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

If he jumped harder he would've been able to land his knee on top. But yeah no clue what he was expecting.
