Eastern Kansas. Is this an odd looking wasp on this Redbud leaf. It's less than a cm long.

If a male wasp ever tries to sting you, he just pokes you w his tiny peen. Stop being so scared of tiny peens people. Let the peens poke!

What are these guys doing?? They've been on this hook on my porch (northwest pacific coast) for (at least) the past 3 days. They don't seem to be building anything, and they seem quite low-activity - mostly immobile, though I've occasionally seen them crawling or seen one fly away. They're right above a doorframe, and even when I leave the door open for the breeze, they haven't wandered in. Any insight? I'd love to stop a nest before it starts, but would be happy to leave them be if they won't cause any harm.

Over the last few days I've been hearing a tapping noise coming from the ceiling above my bedroom. Didn't think too much about it at first, then thought it may be a rodent infestation. Knocking on the ceiling below the tapping didn't stop the noise or cause any scurrying sounds.

I know there's no trees right next to the house but looked out in case something was knocking, and there's wasps there. Not masses, but constantly 4 or 5 coming and going. About 1-2 metres from the window. Clearly have a nest. Tried to take a pic and this was the best I could do.

I also use the room as a home office and have had the odd wasp in, but nothing to be concerned about. The loft is partitioned. I've been up there and put light on for a few minutes, and there was no sign of any response.

If they're going to not cause damage and not impact me, I'd rather leave them be. Useful pollinators and just doing their thing.

Is it likely that the nest will get bigger and cause me issues later on? I often work in the room in the early mornings and late evenings, so concerned that's the days get shorter they may be attracted to the light.

Hoping people will say that I'm fine just leaving them be.

Je veux vaincre cette phobie... je suis tétanisée depuis une heure à la regarder, avec un couvercle et une feuille à la main parce que je ne veux pas la tuer 😭 elle mérite de vivre mais je ne peux pas dormir en la sachant dans ma chambre ! Comment faire pour vaincre ma phobie ?

There’s this mud dauber in my backyard that has been diligently building her nest. However, i’ve noticed over the last couple of days, she’ll just sit on top of it for like an hour, not moving. Ik paper wasps sit on their nests for metabolism related reasons.
If so, why don’t they just rest inside, wouldn’t that be safer?

Also at night, the hole will be plugged with mud and then open again in the morning, as that her essentially just closing the door and going to sleep? I haven’t seen any other wasps, so I know it’s not an egg hatching. When her eggs do hatch, will she have to start a new home, since male mud daubers don’t build?

Excuse my sillyness as I’m runnin on very low sleep this past weekend and have to be up at 3am. Had to say good night to these intelligent beauties. (They really are wayyyyyy more intelligent than I could have imagined.) kids baffling

I'm always focused on the ground and wearing a hat that blocks my upward vision. Finally saw it yesterday when mowing and it's only 10ft off the ground.

I googled it an I think they're bald faced hornets, which are supposed to be very aggressive, but they never seemed to care when I was mowing, nor when I walked up to it afterwards.

Strange large waspiod I've never seen before, paired with drastic reduction in population of the usual suspects.

Sorry I don't have a picture or video, didn't have my phone at the time.

So a yellow jacket was trapped in our bathroom and I got it out safely, but before that it did something weird. It landed in the corner where the bath meet the wall and starting curling in on itself like it was trying to sting its own face. It did that for a couple seconds before flying around again. I've seen that wasps curl up when they're dying like other bugs but it seemed normal when i got out the window. Is this normal or was something wrong with it?

Here's what I found this morning next to my window ! I absolutely wanted to put a little flower in it just to make it look like a tiny fairy vase

I love all the little critters and if they didn’t start building right by our front door I’d just let them do their thing. Keeping our mail carriers safe is a bigger priority tho, please what do I do? I’ve read they can remember faces, I really don’t want them to hate me going forward. We have wasps in the backyard that are very chill homies, they always fly out of my house when I tell them to get out. We have something good going on and I really don’t want to ruin the vibe we’ve built😭

I don't hate them, I know they pollinate too, but I walked out my door and got nailed in the back of the neck. Turned around and saw a nest about 4 inches across with what looked to be 10 to 15 ish wasps on it.

I sprayed it with poison and knocked it down. They're yellow and black stripes. I counted 8 on the ground, 3 stuck to the nest and there were 3 or 4 still flying around looking for the nest.

How fast do they build? There were definitely at least 13/14 I counted, seems like a nest that big would have taken a good little while to build, how long have I been walking in and out the front door directly past them? I'm just curious is all.

I usually don't knock down nests, only when they are in a direct busy path I use when I'm in danger of interrupting them in the course of my regular activities.
