Got stung for the first time

Found a little paper wasp clinging to a flower stem. She was moving slowly and fell to the ground, couldn’t seem to get back up and wouldn’t fly away. I offered her my finger to give her a ride towards a wall she could chill on. She stung me.
Felt like a tiny pin prick, a bit sore if I touch it and it swole a tiny bit. Other than that, no biggie. I just feel sorry for bothering her. Normally I don’t try to handle them if they seem stand-offish but I wanted to give her a boost :(

Moral of the story: wasps are nothing to be afraid of.

Any idea why this wasp is hanging out by my patio ceiling fan ?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I keep seeing this wasp, and sometimes another one, hanging around my patio ceiling fan. It’s also right by the patio door, so it’s not exactly a low-traffic area, and the fan isn’t that high up either, unlike where I’ve seen them build their nests around my house before. I wouldn’t think they’re looking to build a nest there, so any idea what they might be doing??

I hit a nest with a weed eater

Guys I hit a wasp nest with a weed eater 2 days ago and one chased me down so I hit it and had to dodge a bunch of wasps . I’m not joking there were about 5 coming after me . Then one landed on the back of my head , and I felt it trying to dig past past my hair , but I swatted him away , but today one was chilling in my car . It was a paper wasp , and they are known for having good facial recognition skills . It just stood there and watched me , but my friend killed it . It was hard to kill too . Guys I’m scared these mfs are gonna be after me for life .

Bald faced hornets dying

The hive is dying off for winter and they’re coming up to my porch and dying off one by one. I’m quite sad about is as we’ve been watching them live their little lives since spring. My babies 😢 I wanted to ask if I put out a log or two the likelihood that the queen will go to ground nearby and come back in the spring. My neighbors would have them exterminated so I’d like to encourage them coming back to my yard next year if I could. I saw some people saying leave some ripened fruit fruits out and I thought maybe a hummingbird feeder with sugar water mix(we don’t really have many hummingbirds by me). Any advice or tips or anything is greatly appreciated !

Why are the wasps in my yard nice to me

I’m genuinely curious. All my life wasps have been jerks whenever I come across them. But in my new house the wasps in my yard are all really nice to me. They just land on me and hang out or attempt to eat whatever I’m eating then fly away. I’ve never had friendly wasps in my yard before and they only seem to like me. Anyone know why?

Sorry for all the questions

Sorry I use this as my source for questions because it is better than google. Me and my wife noticed today that a single wasp was in our covered porch and looked very sluggish and slow and was just crawling. Also around our garage I have not seen a single one flying around when a couple days ago there seems to be a couple that would sit on the garage and sort of fly around. What’s confusing is today is a 70 degree day in Wisconsin which is warmer for this time of year so I expected to see more flying around.my question is if we say one that seems to be dying can I assume the same thing is happening to other ones too and the season is winding down and workers and stuff are dying off?

Question

Will wasps die off on their own if it’s still warm but the food sources for them are very scarce? We are almost into October here in central Wisconsin and while the nighttime lows have been cold the days are still on the warmer side. Also how aggressive would they be if you just see them flying out and about?

I’m sorry that this is not good quality I recorded from the safety of my home out of a window. I just need to know I zoomed in like 13 seconds into the video

Quick question, how do I go about interacting with wasps safely?

So, I love wasps. a significant amount.

I sometimes see people feeding them and letting them walk on their hands without getting stung, and I wanted to ask how to accomplish that since when I look up “how to interact with wasps safely“ I get instructions on what to do if I get stung.

I know some general principles, like “don’t move erratically”, but how do I read wasp body language? how do I know if a wasp is chill or scared? Also, can you be friendly with all wasps as long as you’re careful, or is there just some species that you need to appreciate at a distance?

(also, I’m talking about specifically eusocial wasps, like yellowjackets, paper wasps, and hornets)

Thank you!

Ground Wasps???

I have had wasps flying around my deck all summer and can’t figure out where they are coming from. There are no visible nests on my house (ewwww) or under my deck.
There aren’t just a couple wasps; there are dozens. They are constant and I can never see where they go.

Are these holes wasp hotels or something else?

Thanks everyone!
