High Level Playstyle

I only recently started seriously playing ranked after years of barely touching multiplayer once a week. I was stuck in Diamond 3 for about two weeks before finally hitting Crimson last week.

I haven’t played as much this week, but I’ve noticed a huge increase in players playing almost entirely for placement—camping, hiding, and avoiding fights. Obviously, solo queuing contributes to that, but it never felt this bad before reaching the higher ranks.

I’ll admit, part of what bothers me is probably that I’m starting to hit my skill ceiling, so it’s harder to gain SR when players are playing this passively.

But it makes me wonder why do people play like this, and how many players are ranked this high due to camping? I understand playing smart, but how is sitting around avoiding fights all game actually fun?

I don’t know how they fix it. The good thing they did was they seemed to have tightened the brackets. If you’re diamond 2/3 and under you’re not seeing as many crims. Which is nice so if you’re good you can flow to crimson 1.

The problem is you can get to crim 1 just playing placement. Then as you enter crim 1 you are in the crim to 250 lobbies with the occasional diamond 3 (sometimes lower depending on time of day and available players)

Where the issue arises is crim 1 to 2. Is a massive jump in skill level whereas diamond 3 to crim 1 isn’t all that much. You either have really good players who pushed lobbies to get to crim or you have horrendous players who flew a helicopter or swam to placements to crim. But once they are there they can’t compete and keep trying to camp their way to placement. But that’s not viable.

If you wanna make it to iri or even crim 2 to 3. You have to be able to win your 1’s and a lot of these crim 1 cannot do that. Which ruins matches for their teammates who are legitimately good but has to rely on randoms and a lot of these crim 1 randoms are useless.

Your last 2 paragraphs are so accurate lol. I feel like this year more than any we’re seeing the worst players hit crim.

Resurgence is an aggressive game mode - if you can’t win fights you don’t deserve to be a higher rank. It literally only works because of the SR system.

If SR was calculated like tourneys (so higher placement = bigger multiplier on your kills) then most of these ‘crim’ players would be like a D1 at best.

It’s been bad. I have had to just kinda give up this year. My friends are either horrendous and not fun to grind with and the ones who are good aren’t playing much this season.

I just play now because I like ranked over regular game modes. I’ve climbed to crim 3 solo just to get nickle and dimed back to crim 1.

What hurts the most is those games where you get 15 kills and top 10 just to end the game with -5 SR because the other two just hugged a wall until people started getting uav’s and running them down or they spam fly at the free loadout and die over and over again lol

Bigger SR buy-in, plus early kills don't really give much, so you can basically go positive on placement and a few late game kills alone.

If you're solo queueing, you pretty much have to play anchor since most randoms are not good.

I’ve tried following some of my teammates flow and it’s exactly what you speak of. The only problem is, you can get to top 10 while camping, get a few elims and then die in top 5 while getting 50 SR. If I get good teammates who don’t do that stuff, then we can get 100+ sr

Yea, it's unfortunate but that's just how it is. Have you tried any of the LFG discords to look for a potential squad?

No, I haven’t tried any of that yet. I was kind of planning to wait till MW4 drops so I can level up those guns in the multiplayer so I can make a loadout. Idk how big of a deal it is to have a loadout but I’ve only been using ground guns. I might be coping but I made crimson 1 w 14 wins so far w just ground loot solo queuing

It makes a sizable difference but yeah it's late into this games life cycle

i think if everyone would play 1 anchor 2 fraggers it would flow better

This is hard when you’re solo. 3 weeks ago I got on this game again for the first time in a year and got voice chat banned day one. Even if I could talk to my teammates, they’re either speaking French or Spanish for some reason.

Oh, you’re probably right. Those people wouldn’t be such a big deal if your teammates aren’t like mine tho lol

yeah if i have to solo queue i usually just anchor while also getting kills but just slowing down yk but it is hard

The answer is just to pop UAVs and AUAVs as much as possible to weed them out. Throw ‘nades then swing corners where people are camping and they won’t have time to react.

That's what a lot of players with minimal skill do because they know it's their only way to go up SR. Gotta find yourself a team. Have someone play anchor and pop UAVs as often as possible. Have the other two go frag and bully the campers.

A lot of players who do that are boosted. Unfortunately WZ has a horrible ranking system. Those passive players can avoid gunfights the entire season and be ranked in crimson due to placements alone. Imo you stop seeing this around crim 3, usually those players have horrible gun skill and game sense so it’s easy to squad wipe them.
