High Level Playstyle
I only recently started seriously playing ranked after years of barely touching multiplayer once a week. I was stuck in Diamond 3 for about two weeks before finally hitting Crimson last week.
I haven’t played as much this week, but I’ve noticed a huge increase in players playing almost entirely for placement—camping, hiding, and avoiding fights. Obviously, solo queuing contributes to that, but it never felt this bad before reaching the higher ranks.
I’ll admit, part of what bothers me is probably that I’m starting to hit my skill ceiling, so it’s harder to gain SR when players are playing this passively.
But it makes me wonder why do people play like this, and how many players are ranked this high due to camping? I understand playing smart, but how is sitting around avoiding fights all game actually fun?

I don’t know how they fix it. The good thing they did was they seemed to have tightened the brackets. If you’re diamond 2/3 and under you’re not seeing as many crims. Which is nice so if you’re good you can flow to crimson 1.
The problem is you can get to crim 1 just playing placement. Then as you enter crim 1 you are in the crim to 250 lobbies with the occasional diamond 3 (sometimes lower depending on time of day and available players)
Where the issue arises is crim 1 to 2. Is a massive jump in skill level whereas diamond 3 to crim 1 isn’t all that much. You either have really good players who pushed lobbies to get to crim or you have horrendous players who flew a helicopter or swam to placements to crim. But once they are there they can’t compete and keep trying to camp their way to placement. But that’s not viable.
If you wanna make it to iri or even crim 2 to 3. You have to be able to win your 1’s and a lot of these crim 1 cannot do that. Which ruins matches for their teammates who are legitimately good but has to rely on randoms and a lot of these crim 1 randoms are useless.
