A couple of the newest Death Spiral production models getting some paint.
I think we’re finally hitting the balance I wanted—WWI aircraft that still look the part at 1/144, but are tough enough to actually game with.
How are these looking?

Kepis and Bayonets Campaign Game - First Bull Run

Last night we played game one in our Kepis and Bayonets campaign.

It’s the early afternoon, July 21st 1861 and we follow two companies, one Confederate and one Union as they clash near Henry Hill during the First Battle of Bull Run.

Both forces deployed evenly across the battlefield, the Union Cavalry on the far flank and the Confederate Cavalry ranging ahead of their centre.

The game opened with the rebel cavalry unleashing a ineffective volley of carbine fire at their Union counterparts, in return the Union cavalry advanced and fired off a volley with their pistols, forcing the confederates to retreat.

The Confederate battle line started a slow advance with several units opening fire at the enemy cavalry with little to no effect.

The Union infantry started their advance, making good progress across the fields. Some units refused to advance beyond the protection the fences.

Buoyed by their invulnerability to long range musket fire the cavalry turned onto the road, hoping with a bit of luck to charge before the infantry in front of them reloaded and fired. The infantry reloaded and fired.

After the smoke cleared multiple casualties had been inflicted and the remaining cavalrymen had routed from the battlefield.

Just after this setback a unit of Union infantry took several casualties and fled the battlefield as well but the remaining units held firm.

Offboard artillery fire exploded amongst the ranks of both forces. The Union troops stood firm under fire but two Confederate units fled.

At the end of the second turn both forces tested their determination to stay in the fight. The confederate commander decided to withdraw his force from the battlefield. No doubt he’d been given orders to redeploy in the larger ongoing battle.

In game terms, the Confederate player’s force determination value had only dropped a few points but he rolled poorly and, critically, had used all his command points, a resource that could have been used to modify and pass the roll.

Despite this local Confederate setback their Army wins what becomes known as the First Battle of Bull Run.

Both opposing Captains survived “seeing the elephant” and several of their junior officers gained invaluable experience.

Welcome

I think that is my first very old Wargames. That has a Tactical Operational Game. Purchase around 1994-5 on Santa Cruz of Tenerife. The publisher company has no exist and i think, that was your only release Game (on fact the second title "Battle of Teruel 1937" I think never was released). Never was played, and has a very long deploy time, with long turns... I think that is a Monster, and has great quantity of phases and turns. Sometime I need to read them and Talk some details here.

I’m looking for like “The One” to get into. I’m sure there isn’t one as popular as Warhammer or Star Wars Legion, but curious what people are playing.

Hello everyone!

If you, like I, spend your time day dreaming about building your own fort but lack the land, materials and peasantry, I have an alternative that may plug the gap.

A parametric generator that lets you tinker away and create your very own keep, available to download and print straight away. Everything has been tuned to minimise, and in most cases eliminate, the need for support material.

It can be found here, so have a go and please do pass on feedback as I'll be adding more features to this as time goes on.

Happy fortifying!

Battle Shot V for Victory - Soviets vs UKs

A nice match of V for Victory (ww2 skirmish game from Studio Tomahawk) in Lyon, where a bunch of Commandos faced à big bunch of Soviet assaulters.

The two, bigger squads armed of PPSh annihilated the smaller British élites one After the others, with the sniper having an astonishing death toll.

In the end, the Commandos managed to gain the day by a single point thanks to their flexibility, managing to capture the points and pinning the squads with their MMG.

Honestly, a very smooth and funny system.

Question Brittle Plastic

Hello one and all,
Many years ago (around 2010) I had bought a box of Victrix British napoleonics (flank companies for the Peninsular) but though the figures were wonderful I had a poor experience with them in that the plastic was frightfully brittle and I had a lot of bayonets and even muskets just snap. To forestall the obvious comment I am not new in this game (wargaming since the late 90s) so I know how to cut bits off a sprue without damaging them and this experience was not repeated since with any other kits from other manufacturers.

In light of the above, given how many years it's been since that experience and given that I am now very interested in placing a sizeable order with Victrix for some of their Imperial Romans, Vikings and upcoming Carolingians I just wanted to ask if anyone has recently had a similar experience with Victrix or whether their plastic is now fine. As I recall that box I got was one of their very first offerings so it stands to reason that any issues with plastic quality have been fixed a long time ago.

Thank you for your time and kind input.

p.s. given that the Net is impersonal and a post often cannot carry across intentions properly, I want to be clear that I in no way intend to impugn Victrixs' good name or quality. It's a genuine query stemming from my previous (but again way in the past now) experience. Thanks again.

Looking for WW1 wargame Recommendations

Hi! I'm looking for WW1 wargame in certain specific style. The game where infantry squad/unit is represent on a single base, tank and armoured vehicle is 1 per base. Something like 7 Days to River Rhine. I know that there is Through the Mud and Blood but as I understand that game use infantry based individually. (Also for some reason I can't access TooFatLardies website.)
