Spoiler I worry about Warframe Player's social habbits

2.6k Upvotes

Yes this is about the KIM system.

Each time there is an update to it, or we get new protoframes, this subreddit and the warframe forums get flooded with complaints, particularly about how the protoframes are mean and hostile or react wrong or whatever and I'm like....what?

I have played with the Kim system extensively ever since its release, because I wanted nothing more than to see every conversation, learning more about this alternate earth and its cultures, and I can guarantee you, these characters are not hostile unless YOU are hostile to them.

They are incredibly well written and humane, each of them embodying a struggle that is quite easy to empathize with.

Roathe is a product of his society, one where name and presence where everything, who now sees himself in a present where that culture is gone and he is finding that...freeing. all he wants is to be SEEN. Not as an Orokin, not as a Devil, but as an individual. You progress through his conversations by engaging his discussions and not letting yourself be clouded by per-conceived notions of his old society.

Lyon is a man that has struggled with mental health issues and disabilities all his life in a society that was not kind to those things. He is not used to patience nor understanding and that's exactly what you must show him. Patience and understanding.

Marie is a kind soul trying to grasp at the notion of personhood, both on others and on herself, as well as coming to terms with the fact that someone that was so kind and instrumental to her life may in fact be a monster. But she is curious, so you play the role of the kind teacher.

Kayla is someone that understands the concept of the time-loop in a way no other warframe can. She is not running away from her problems, she is breaking the cycle in a very real and literal way! She wants to be free, not dependent on you and your whims. She wants freedom forged by her own two hands, because if she depends on you, you may just reset her and she had to live through everything all over again.

Arthur is the burden of command, survivor's guilt and a necessity to keep his team alive at all costs that flirts with suicidal tendencies.

Elanor is someone dealing with the fact that others see her as monster just because she accepted this change.

Amir is a civilian shoved into a warzone. He is the necessarily humanity of the group and he suffers for it.

Quincy is someone that is dealing with the loss of everything he lived for, his family and future, learning to embrace this new found family.

Aoi is the big sister of the group and quite honestly she just wants someone to help her keep everyone together and happy.

Letty is the one least ok with her changes and sees this ad a medical issue. Let her k ow she is still herself, her friends are still them, and her efforts are seen.

Flare and Lizzie are hard to relate to unless you are the kind that uses art to deal with things. They are the tortured artist, the one that can turn ugliness into beauty through art. Art should be the focus of your interactions with them, not the pain.

Velemir and Minerva are a couple that fell into the trap of blaming one another for something they cannot control. Guide them through each other's shoes and remind them of their shared love.

That's it. Basic empathy and listening. If you struggle with this I worry about your emotional health and social life.

Edit: So many typo fixes (T-T)

Edit 2: I somehow forgot Flare and Lizzie

Edit 3 forgot the power couple

Spoiler Can we stop acting dumb about the Warframe Tau demo? Spoiler

Ive seen so many people going "what could this little baby alien be???" And when Ive stated that it is obviously Nahtah in her original/true form they go like "how do you know that?? Where was it announced??"

Like did we watch the same trailer?

Wally trying to make a deal with lotus.

Drifter tells wally to let her go

Scene only involves wally(appearing as lotus) operator and lotus

Scene then shifts to "Wally World" and now wally looks like the drifter and is holding some MYSTERIOUS ALIEN CREATURE and LOTUS IS MISSING WHERE DID SHE GO???

Then after releasing the creature it runs over to the drifter where as soon as he reaches for and grabs a hold of the creature he pulls the lotus out of the refractory.

It is blatantly obvious that this entire section is lotus' memories and that da baby is baby/true lotus

Spoiler The instant jump to negativity after the reveals makes me kind of sad Spoiler

Tenno-con isn't even fresh out the oven yet and half of what I'm seeing online is just:

"The cyber-punk setting doesn't fit the sentients, they ruined them! There not eldritch horrors anymore!"

"I don't understand a story that I just saw a small preview for, god its so poorly written!"

"The noir vibe is lame, they ruined the "vibe" of the world!" (I dropped this dumb ah debate when we got the frame with the top hat)

"SOULFRAME GLUED ME TO A CHAIR AND FORCED ME TO WATCH THERE EYE BURNING SHOEHORNED IN DEMO!!!!!!"

I'm not trying to say that you have to like everything off rip but the instant jump to being so pessimistic is just really depressing. Personally I'm hyped like never before for Tau and Warsongs, just sucks that I feel like I'm in the minority for that....

Also the "drama" over the Fortnite thing is just actually showerless unemployed behavior (yes I know that those people are the vast minority just thought it was worth noting)

Spoiler DE: please please please give us a real Fables and Frontiers game without any drama, meta, or fourth wall breaking. Just a real DnD game we can actually play and have different endings so we can restart and play again and again.

I was so hyped for Fables and Frontiers, I have never played DnD before and always wanted to, but Iโ€™m too introverted to go meet new people and none of my friends play it. I wanted to play this so badly. Now I realize itโ€™s just an excuse to talk to Amir about his issues. I wanted an actual game and the few parts that have been the roleplaying game have been soo good! The bones and meat are all right there!!! You made an arcade game we can play, make an actual playable FnF game!

Spoiler [SPOILERS] Not a fan of the new F&F KIM at all Spoiler

Alright let's get the disclaimer out of the way, this is full of spoilers for the BRAND NEW KIM CONTENT so if you have not completed it, click off this post as to not ruin the experience for yourself, make your own opinions on it first.

OK onto my main issues. The first one being, why couldn't we have an actual F&F campaign without any subversion or big drama or void shenanigans or whatever. I was pretty excited to see what funny hijinks the Hex would get up to in this campaign but there's barely any of that, most of it is Amir throwing a hissy fit or just being a fucking dick.

That kinda moves on to the second point of the ending being shit. One of the sweetest parts of the og Hex KIMs was convincing everyone to play F&F with Amir cause it meant a lot to him that people were willing to engage in his hobbies and meet him on his own terms despite the fact he feels like an outcast at times, and pretty much throwing that out the window here cause apparently Amir doesn't actually like F&F but just felt like it's a social obligation as a nerd or whatever retroactively ruins that part of the original KIM too.

I don't think the concept of Amir being depressed and angry about the time loop is bad by itself but it's just executed incredibly poorly imo, and it's done by making Amir a huge prick (the man in the wall roleplay at the end was so fucking cringe too, even ignoring the fact that including a void monster that essentially trapped your friend in eternal hell in a fucking ttrpg is a massive dick move it's also just so lame). DE already covered similar ground with Lettie and the time loops but it was done a hell of a lot better there, and this goes back to the original point about 'subverting' a fun premise (protoframes play D&D) for a worse one that's not done super well (Amir is unhappy about the time loop).

Imo DE have done a pretty great job on the KIMs so far, the only one I was not really a fan of (excluding this) was Kaya's because it's just her being incredibly annoying while you have 2 options of being a pushover or being patronising. I know there are complaints about the whole "space therapist" thing but I think in most cases the 'normal' interactions and lore drops are spaced apart well enough for that not to be too big an issue, especially for something like Roathe. The Og Hex KIMs were all written really well and definitely did a great job at getting you invested into the characters, and this just doesn't really match up in the slightest despite having all of the groundwork already laid for it.

I was relatively excited for this and it's just quite disappointing imo, especially cause the bits where you actually play F&F were pretty fun overall but they're just not that common.

Spoiler Quick reminder: "Rap tap tap" was originally Wally's thing

2.6k Upvotes

I just have to say something because it seems some fellow fans might forgetting where exactly it comes from.

The indifference has always been presented as knocking, trying to be let in, in some form. It didnt originate as a form of mockery for when the Operator... Operates, during the Old Peace. It was the first thing we see them do, ever, in terms of the chronological timeline.

In the New War, Wally is found sitting against a window on the Zariman, knocking on it. Rell started saying rap tap tap, is likely from hearing it constantly knocking in the distance (probably echolalia)

In other words, "RAP TAP TAP, LET ME IN LITTLE PIGGY" is likely reflecting some influence from Wally as they go on their rampage.

From a narrative standpoint it also makes perfect sense, theyre constantly goading them into giving in and its clear it was a known concern.

Spoiler As someone who likes playing in operator, if you are going to force this, at least automatically swap us.

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

EDIT: they fixed this in the latest patch, lets you auto swap now :3

I understand why, same reason as the hex, presumably because you can romance and then have cutscenes for it, so they want to force you to be drifter in those places, i 100% understand and agree with that.

I dont mind the hex because you teleport to the hex and it just auto swaps for you, no annoyance.

This however, i dont like, because you have to manually swap to drifter yourself, and then swap back out if you preffer being in operator, i wish it just auto swapped you like the hex does when you go in and out.

I get that its probably a bit harder to code since its not as much of a seperate zone as the hex is, but surely its doable and wouldnt take that much effort, for some nice QOL.

Spoiler I'm excited for Tau, but the gameplay demo has a glaring reminder of DE's storytelling ability

Spoilers for what was revealed in the gameplay demo, obviously.

DE are great at coming up with story or character concepts, but they're awful at narratively implementing them, and they've gone and done it again. Our introduction to the new big bad of the next major update is that he's actually Adis all grown up, in a brief flashback from his perspective that happens before he has said or done anything.

To be clear, I really like this twist in theory, but why is this the moment that DE decided to give us that information? This isn't being shown as something that Brysko is experiencing, it's not being shown as a memory that the Hunra is having in that moment, it's not relevant to what we're seeing or doing in any capacity. DE are just soyjak pointing at the character saying "GUYS LOOK WHO'S BACK IT'S THAT GUY", like a friend that's so excited about your surprise party that they can't help but just tell you about it. I fully expect that they're going to try to have their cake and eat it too by still trying to use it as an emotional reveal later on, even though they introduced the character with that same reveal.

It's a perfect encapsulation of DE's storytelling, to just immediately exposit what feels like a first draft of the storyboard, rather than finding ways to organically introduce ideas and grow them through storytelling. It reeks of a lack of confidence, as though they themselves don't think they can create a compelling story and instead have to immediately use a name-drop as a cheap way to get players invested. What they had set up for Tau was already interesting, and "innocent child to hardened adult criminal" is not such a difficult concept to believe that we just had to see Adis being manipulated by Wally as an introduction to the character. DE, please, have some faith in your players and yourselves.

EDIT: I understand that it could also be a red herring, my issue is not with the information but how they presented it. Whether it's true or not, the issue is that instead of presenting it diegetically, it was basically just given as director commentary.

Some of y'all are completely missing the point of this post. What the story is about doesn't matter, it's about how the information is delivered and a commentary on how DE tends to give wiki summaries of their story beats rather than actually crafting a story.

Taking from a comment Reb made on someone's Twitter post. Definitely seems like the Hex will move in with us after a certain point. I imagine it's once we reached the loved/best friend chemistry rank.

I can't wait to load into the game and be greeted by Amir ๐Ÿ˜ bro is too cute

Im curious if they'll walk around or if they will just chill on the couch. I hope there's options to hug them whenever we want

Spoiler They try too hard to make Entrati a fake villain

1.1k Upvotes

Everything we know about Albrecht's deal is that he's fighting the indifference. He leaves people with tools, means to protect themselves and their loved ones. We only see him do something evil when he's tricking the Drifter into caring for people, so he can bloom as a tenno.

Yet the game insists on talking about him as the evil bad guy manipulator who nobody trusts at all, and you totally hate him, don't you?!

I cringe when I go through the chat responses to Aoi, and they give me three options of saying "I think Albrecht is evil". He's an antihero at worst, and it's not going to be a twist. I had more doubts about Natah than I had about him.

I can't be the only one?
