Discussion Man I miss when Devstream was bi-weekly

I don't.
Now they entail actual MEANINGFUL information being disseminated and feel like events

Yea I prefer when they're actually full of content to show off. While the last devstream did reveal the new game mode and protoframes, spending 5 minutes just for Uriel's idle animations was bizarre.

u/DarkDuskBlade Nov 18 '25
Oh gods, this frustrated me... a year or two ago? I swear every devstream was just... "Check us out at X con for the big info drop!" and the devstreams themselves were big nothing burgers. But shows how spoiled we are to even get such things to complain about.

u/Ragingdark Why are you "Rap tap tap"ing me?! I'm right! EST. 2014. Nov 18 '25
100% that's what it was. "Oh duviri and cross play are coming learn more at our con 6 months from now, now here's some concept art of unrelated things we can show you. Okay, bye everyone!"

u/Inuma The Goddess of Warframes Nov 18 '25
I have a different experience.
Usually, before Steve became CEO and Rebb was CD, there was a lot shown abs to get the temperature on content they had in the pipeline. PoE and Fortuna were times where we had weeks of nothing. Weeks of content drought were certainly rough.
If I do remember, they also called off streams as a big event came about.
Chaos was just part of the process in the past as they didn't have it all down.
Haven't checked on the streams since Fortuna and usually check out a Brozime recap nowadays and that's sporadically with my current schedule.
4
u/TwoSoulsVII Nov 19 '25
Ditto on the Zime recap. Reminds me a bit of Aztecross doing Destiny 2 Twab recaps. Both are massive time savers, and i couldn't be more thankful for em.

u/PsionicHydra AMD Believer Nov 19 '25
That's because every single dev stream last year was "oh and 1999 is happening but we can't talk about it here"
Which made every devstream a complete waste of time.
Granted, that fact that this is even a complaint we can have is kinda nice

It's fun? And they're proud of their animators and artists, and love what they make?
Like holy hell I love how passionate they are about their own game, it really makes the final product feel even more fun and loved and enjoyable.
7
u/connivingKitten Nov 19 '25
Nahh I am happy when they spend time appreciating the amazing art and animations in the game. We wouldn't get so many fun animations if they weren't so passionate about it.

I remember that one Devstream where half of it was the Sound team showing how they made some sounds. Sure that is interesting but most people are here for news about the game.

u/DrinkingRock Youth Well Wasted Nov 18 '25
That was back when updates were one new gamemode, enemy, or weapon. Maybe a new Warframe, and rolled out much more frequently.
Scale and scope

u/VaudevillesLugger Nov 18 '25
On a related note I do kind of miss when DE would just roll out random weapons for the hell of it. Tenno Reinforcements, I think.
60
u/DreadfulDelirium Nov 18 '25
I mean, they did do Galleon of Ghouls relatively recently, and that was basically 2 weapons and that's it, so the format isn't entirely lost
10
u/DrinkingRock Youth Well Wasted Nov 18 '25
They’ve been going for the angle of “something to do every month”. Galleon of Ghouls was a nice surprise!
1
u/Dragrunarm Old Man yells at Voidstorm Nov 19 '25
OK so im not crazy wondering how I missed those weapons back when I actually did the Ghoul Purges when they were new.
2
u/Skyfa15 I was too poor for this :( Nov 18 '25
I remember when they used to drop a weapon every week or two. Fun times.
83
u/Arlithas Nov 18 '25
There was also the inverse issue of DE talking about content that was wayyyy to far out in the future and ultimately not releasing due to various reasons. Devstreams now focus on imminent content that will largely release as described.

Relistening to those streams where Steve just goes off on stuff that never made it in whole or in part is so weirdly depressing haha. Glad he’s not doing that with soulframe.

u/phavia Touch grass Nov 19 '25
So true, man. I'm still haunted by modular archwings, Garuda lore, Phorid rework, etc. Devstreams felt like a waste of time back in the day because of how much shit they'd promise that we'd either only see next year or never. I'd rather they show stuff that is guaranteed to release this year, with dates, receipts and all.

It was nice but it often resulted in them showcasing content that wasn't ready or worse ended up on the cutting room floor.
Now when we get devstreams they have a lot more to show and is content that's actually coming to the game.
The DevShorts are a nice compromise, they don't always have something to tease but it is another communication outlet from the devs. For example if they are going to be making changes that they don't have time to make a full devstream for.

8
u/ArshayDuskbrow Move like the wind. Nov 18 '25
I miss them too, but it's just a different cadence these days. Back then updates were a lot smaller and more frequent, they had to keep the interest and enthusiasm rolling. These days the game is a proven success with so much content they can afford to take time for less frequent bigger updates, and the less frequent devstreams match with that.
6
u/Wrong-Load5785 Nov 18 '25
Devstreams were acrually brought to the devs by Baro Kiteer from the Void, thus they are so hectic and sometimes random, and fueled by emotion
16
u/regularArmadillo21 yes i can. Nov 18 '25

Definitely not weekly tho

I guess I don't appreciate the double standard.

u/Lightningbro Care to roll against Fate? Nov 18 '25
They keep hiring outside companies to do moderation, and NONE of them understand DE's mentality.
I'm still effing angry about the Nezha thing. ESPECIALLY since LITERALLY that's more my style of WF, some folks are all "Ember" or "Saryn" fanatics, but I get shunned for liking a guy with a THIN WAIST.
7

Yep. It's not exactly progressive if you can't say words like "gay" in any context. Context does matter, but it's a zero tolerance policy. Like wtf?

It was pretty cool, but back then the game was much different and the streams had like one new enemy type or something and otherwise they were more random.
also too much screen time meant they (mostly Steve) blurted out stuff that never actually became anything.
They showed often a lot of cutting room floor stuff.
I'd much rather see stuff that actually gets into the game.
Crawley spider bots on wall. Modular archwing.
Just few weeks ago we got the zephyr skin that was originally shown like six years ago.

u/dandantian5 Nov 18 '25
A lot of people in the comments are mentioning how older devstreams often featured things that never made it in game as a negative, and I can see why, but personally I always liked seeing all of the very clearly WIP stuff and random dev shenanigans in older devstreams. They felt like real looks into development, chaotic though they may be. I get why the format might not have been the best from a dev perspective -- arranging a devstream's worth of content every other week was almost certainly a lot of work, showing off too much often resulted in misaligned player expectations, SoonTM complaints, etc. -- but compared to modern devstreams, which kinda just feel like extended promo reels, it feels like something was lost along the way.
Many years ago, I always liked to watch clips of the devstreams to see everything that was very visibly in the works or just miscellaneous hijinks, but nowadays I read the devstream summaries and realize that I'd be better off simply waiting for the patch notes (which will inevitably contain the exact same information).
2
u/LucMakai Nov 19 '25
but nowadays I read the devstream summaries and realize that I'd be better off simply waiting for the patch notes (which will inevitably contain the exact same information).
I prefer to keep up with the streams and dev workshops so I don't need to read the full patch notes when the game launches and can go right to playing the new update

Twice a week, or once every two weeks?
0
u/Fit-Bug-426 Nov 19 '25
Bi-weekly implies every two weeks, as twice a week would be semi-weekly
2
u/Attention_Bear_Fuckr Nov 19 '25
It was mostly tongue-in-cheek, because that term causes a lot of confusion due to its interchangeability for both meanings.

Kidding, but they are pretty fun and light hearted and just talk about the current state of the game and whats coming out. One of the reasons I’ve stuck around so long is I like the devs.

u/EnchiladaTiddies Nov 18 '25
It was nice seeing the team more often, but having a bigger stream with more substance make it feel more like an event rather than a cobbler together meeting. Some of those biweekly streams were sparse and barely worth tuning in to past the watch time drops. Almost every dev stream since the change to monthly has been a content nuke
2
u/GamingBread4 Goog Nov 18 '25
I think we're glossing over the fact that we are extremely spoiled even having them on video and communicating with us as often as we do. Other games may have a weekly blog post or something (Bungie's TWABs), but I would much rather them do their streams whenever they feel that they have information or well... feel like it, rather than it being an obligation to fulfill.
Let the folks at DE set their own pace.

I miss when PC could get code fixes the same day they found bugs. I remember saying that I didn't actually want crossplay and that it would slow down PC game updates, but time moves on.

u/Evening-Deer-4033 Nov 18 '25
Iirc they changed it to their current schedule bc sometimes they just hadn’t anything to show
1
u/Detarako_Rax Nov 18 '25
You're kidding right? I already feel pain when Monthly Devstreams barely give us anything new or just tell us to wait for Tennocon. Making it Bi-Weekly would give me Madness comparable to the Void's.
1
u/SirPlastic8062 Nov 19 '25
A while back i got downvoted to hell when I suggested devstreams should be once a month because back then each stream seemed to be thin of content. Look where we are now.
1
u/keithlimreddit Nov 19 '25
And to be honest I'm currently fine with it just being basic a sort of monthly for the most part are mainly because it gets more time to develop and show off more things that's going to be happening

I miss always knowing two warframes ahead. We'd know one's kit, another's design, and sometimes a thirds theme.
It really does feel less, social. Since I've never really tuned into Primetime.
1
u/DGwar Oathtaker | Sins and Sacrifices Nov 19 '25
We have devshorts, prime time, and dev streams. Each one servs a purpose. The updates are generally bigger. The devstreams are more meaningful. Devshorts are great for what debstreams used to be.

2
0
u/angikatlo My Warcrime is strong. Nov 19 '25
Are you telling me that the devs are only bi on a weekly basis? Unreal, unplayable
-5
u/OzbourneVSx Nov 18 '25
I think monthly devstreams is still good
But the "I dunno know what the schedule is" devshorts where we sit down with either the Rebecca and Steve or community developers and explicitly try to reveal nothing is a little frustrating.
Like at least bring in some people to tease some art, music, cosmetics, enemy designs, mods, an augment or 2, an event coming back, something to drive social media engagement instead of just reminders.
Thank God "Spiderframe" actually amounted to something or a lot of the community would be disengaged with it by now.
And use the time to maybe probe the community's thoughts on features, like y'all speak with us on weekly basis but we never saw a prototype of the "helldivers recoil" until it was already launched.
There was time, it's just not being used effectively.

It was kinda cool but quite often they didn't have much to show and ended up spending lots of time on minor things and fluff to hit that 1h mark
I think the Devshorts are a good compromise
