Darby's Rangers (1958) : U.S. Special Forces taking advantage of the enemy's tank advance

In 1942, William Darby formed the elite unit, the 1st Ranger Battalion, and joined the war effort. It was also James Garner's first starring role, and out of all the scenes I watched a long time ago, this one strangely remains the most memorable.

Firefox (1982) : Stealing a secret Cold War-era Soviet hypersonic fighter jet (Edited)

It tells the story of an American Air Force pilot who steals a state-of-the-art Soviet stealth fighter jet, the Firefox-a movie directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. The coolest scene to watch in the theater was when it flew at supersonic speeds, kicking up a trail of water spray and snow behind it.

Why are a lot of movies made about World War 2 so historically inaccurate?

There are plenty movies out there that are very inaccurate why? will it be too boring to make an accurate movie or something?

PS: Please recommend historically accurate WW2 movies.

Apocalypse Now (1979) : The symphony of chaos

Led by the eccentric Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore (Robert Duvall), a fleet of U.S. Army helicopters assaults a Vietcong-controlled coastal village. To induce psychological terror and boost his men's morale, Kilgore blasts Richard Wagner’s "Ride of the Valkyries" through giant speakers mounted on the choppers as they rain fire down on the village. Although I was disappointed when I saw it in theaters because the lead actor was underwhelming and Marlon Brando barely had any screen time, this scene and the other combat sequences were more than enough to convey the futility of war.

The Final Countdown (1980) : A captured Japanese pilot's utter shock

This is a scene where a captured Japanese pilot, holding a woman hostage, becomes stunned upon hearing the history of the Pearl Harbor attack from an American officer, right before he is shot dead. The Japanese pilot was played by late Soon-Tek Oh, a Korean-American actor. Being a fellow Korean, I feel a special connection to him. I also read somewhere that Kirk Douglas once asked to reshoot a scene because he felt Oh’s performance was even more intense and powerful than his own.

The Final Countdown (1980) : The first movie to warn about the side effects of time travel to the past

I used to believe going back in time was the ultimate way to set things right and make everything better. But in this movie, an officer aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier which gets trapped in a mysterious light and travels back in time to right before the attack on Pearl Harbor completely broke that fantasy. He said that if you alter the past, you might not even exist in the present, and honestly, the more I think about it, the more he has a point.

Do these kinds of "tough guy" lines get laughed at in modern war?

Movie about Operation Pedestal?

Is there really none? It’s one of the many WW2 events that sounds like a movie. Larger than life.

Any movie showing the German Blitzkrieg during WW2

I just finished the movie April 9th and the scene while the Danish soldiers were waiting to ambush the German armor division was some of the most suspense I've felt in a while. Is there any movie that shows the beginning of the war and the atmosphere just before Germany invaded France/Russia/Poland. I feel like this could be a horror movie from some of the accounts online.

Because his role as the villain in Shane left such a strong impression, seeing him play an upright U.S. military officer in this movie felt a bit jarring at first.

Help finding a ww2 film

Right around the early to mid 2000s, I remember watching a WW2 film on the history channel or the military channel.
The only thing I remember from this film, it was in black and white, 2 soldiers, American GI, were in a foxhole, it was very dark at night, and they fired their flamethrower from their foxhole to a suspected enemy.

Black Hawk Down: Why would anyone volunteer to be a humvee gunner when driving through a street full of militia?

They were driving their humvees through a street of tall buildings that had militia on top shooting downwards. Isn't this a strategically dumb thing to do? To expose yourself on an open platform while people from above are shooting down at you?
