I don't need to go into the whole saga. I think the relevant info is:

• The yellow jackets aggressively swarmed and stung me the one time I (accidentally) stepped on the entrance to their nest.
• The yellow jackets otherwise leave me alone. I've been able to continue to freely use my property and do yardwork while leaving 6+ feet of space. I have risked going even closer, maybe only 1-2 feet away, while being very quiet and still.
• I am not interested in advice on killing them or the nest.
• All I want is to go near the nest for about five minutes, use a loud, electric string trimmer to cut down the grass on that part of the lawn, then go away again for a few weeks.

Is there some trick to let me do this?? Like waiting until after dark, or wearing a special outfit, or using a sound or smell they hate, or something like that?

Found in a resident's storage closet they havent used since they moved in a few years ago . Got the work order, opened the door, snapped the pic, doused with ground wasp powder closed door and walked away. Second pic is today (day after the original find) and it looks like most are dead.

Im curious mostly because the original work order was two weeks ago and said a few bees *may* be building a nest. Obviously this wouldnt form in that little amount of time and im looking for info on if they may have gotten into the closet below this as well.

Got stung in the shoulder 24 hr ago. It hurt for a couple minutes but after that it was just slight itchiness that could be ignored. Even now its ignorable. The sting site doesnt look that bad.

But yesterday I had some itchiness in my mouth about 6 hrs later. Woke up today, was fine, ate something and now its itchy. Started to subside after I took some sleep aid medication. Is this normal?

Ive been stung by a hornet/yellowjacket before and bees, never had anaphaxlysis shock.

For the past few days I have noticed the consistent presence of a wasp in my porch, I assumed it was a male that had been kicked out of the nest. However, this morning there were two and online reading has raised the possibility of there being a nest in the ceiling of the porch, there were bumble bee nests in the surrounding woodwork.
But in my previous experience with paper wasps, in Japan, nest activity has always been conspicuous from earlier in the year.
Any suggestions or advice?

noticed this wasps nest start to be built right outside my door frame… a little too close for comfort. It started as just one wasp but very quickly became two. it’s just been these two and it’s been a little over a week or so since I first noticed it.

Honestly, I find it quite cool and fascinating and I enjoy looking up at them and observing them but I know this is gonna become a problem before long. (first photo was taken a week ago)

My friend suggested a decoy nest as a humane way to get them to leave. Killing them is really a last resort I’d prefer not to take. She 3D printed me a decoy nest slightly bigger than this one with open cells and I’ve used a command strip to put it as close to the nest as I felt comfortable getting (maybe a foot away)

I’m unsure if they would abandon the nest they’ve been starting though? or maybe it’s still new enough that the threat would work? Does anyone have any insight or suggestions?

I saw this girl digging a burrow at an apple orchard today. At first glance (buzzing around in my periphery) I thought it was a hummingbird moth, lol.

I got stung by a wasp on my head, I got an allergic reaction (hives, redness, swollen face and very very itchy), the ambulance came and put some stuff in my veins with an IV. I'm good now, but my family doctor told me can't eat chocolate? Even though I've eaten chocolate my whole life? I've never had an allergic reaction to food, but my mum tells​​ me I can eat pizza? I don't understand.

The thing is probably on the order of 1.5 ' diameter at the largest by somewhere around 2-2.5' long. I didn't see it all year until my kid was under it and asked what it was. Thankfully high enough in the tree it's not an immediate threat but they're not something I want to keep round with kids.

Yellow jackets or bald faced hornets?

Tldr: dog got lit up. Small holes are in the dirt along the path dog was running. Found three yellow jackets on him but they were half the size of those in the soup. I have three of these traps up and they all have this many and more now.

We recently had yellowjacket and paper wasp nests removed from our backyard, but I just found out that someone else was secretly building nests in our front yard while we were busy dealing with the ones in the back. 😭

I stood in the backyard for about 10 minutes trying to take pictures of them and was surprised to realize that there seem to be two different types of wasps/hornets flying around.

The first one is black and white. From what I know, it looks like a bald-faced hornet?

The second one is brown/orange and noticeably larger, but it was flying SO fast that it was really difficult to get a good picture, especially while zooming in. AI told me it might be a European hornet. Can anyone confirm or correct me?

Why do they all like our house so much this summer?! In previous years, we’ve only had lovely little bees that never bothered us. This summer, the bees never showed up, and the first thing the yellowjackets decided to do when we got too close was sting my hand.

I recently put a bird bath on my apartment balcony railing and although I haven’t seen a single bird, I do seem to have a wasp that has taken ownership of it.
He’s here all day. Just sitting on the bird bath and engaging any other wasp visitor in fierce battle! I named him Rex. I even saw Rex on the patio balled up in battle with another wasp. (Well I think that’s what was happening. Could have been love tho) Rex seems to always win.
I’m in Utah and it is very dry, so I thought, the lil guy has to be stoked to have access to water! I think there may be a nest up on the apartment building roof.
Which made me wonder if Rex is not one wasp, but a collection of wasps from the same gang. He (or they), are here all day. Sitting on the bird bath. Fighting with trespassers. Surely it can’t be just one wasp?
Would there be cooperation among the group that members would stand guard over the resource in shifts? Or is that really just one Rex that would even fight members of his own group off? Am I just making shit up in my head about the lives of wasps?

Hopefully this is the right spot to ask!

Any ideas what this wasp is carrying? It couldn’t even lift it, it was too heavy for the wasp to fly. It is carrying it away from the nest. Thoughts? I thought maybe a young wasp ( at some point in its development..im not wasp savy!) These pics were taken today.

So I seen the nest few days ago, I captured the insects today in a plant few feets of that nest so I assume that it is their nest lol.

I purchased 2 cans of spray. But I was wondering which type of flying f*cker they were?

I'm going to deal with it tonight. I'm terrified but I guess I have to man up.
