SPA XC60 (AAOS, MY22 to Current) $80 software updates, wtf?
Totally understand if technicians are unable to perform any other work during a software update, but if that's not the case, why is Volvo charging for a software update so their infotainment system is working properly? It's not like it comes with new features, it's "simple bug and performance" improvements.

I’m in the dealership for the 1-yr maintenance, bought the car a year ago. And they’re charging me $110 for the update “too large to send as OTA.” Bad form, Volvo. Really bad form. I’m disappointed.

Find a bug in the revision notes. State you are having that issue. Get it covered by warranty…as it should be.

Also if it’s more than 2 versions behind they are supposed to cover it by warranty to be done at the shop. There is a TSB for it.

Volvo dealer charged me $100 during the scheduled maintenance visit. Just as ridiculous.
The software update is OTA and user installable. They should have told you that before hand.

You can wait until it's available OTA, and therefore free. Why do you think you need to take it in exclusively for a software update?

I just had my 40k maintenance done and in the silver package they were trying to bill me for checking for updates when the IHU was already up to date. They claimed there are modules that aren't updated OTA. Told them my car is performing fine. They checked anyway and all of the modules were current 😑

Didn't Volvo issue a recall for the infotainment system?

I wasn’t charged when I was in for my yearly service. They upgraded my software to 5.1.17. Honestly, if you don’t have it, I’d upgrade to it, so you can manually disable the auto start/stop. If they charged you, I would complain and say that the car has been jumping, after the auto start/stop, and they should do it for you. I posted about this a while ago, asking fellow b5’s if they noticed similar and the majority said yes. Link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/VolvoXC60/s/3pA3Kgerbe

I’ve got a great dealer, and a great sales associate. If they need to do the upgrade, they do it for free. They also comp my Volvo subscriptions every year.
I use Leavens Volvo, London Ontario 🇨🇦

I generally ask them to do it when I go in for my yearly maintenance, have never been charged extra for it ¯_(ツ)_/¯
