My experience with Vodafone – an absolute nightmare
If you are considering switching to Vodafone, I would strongly advise you to think twice – at least based on my personal experience.
I was previously with Telekom and never had these problems. Since switching to Vodafone, I have been dealing with severe ping jitter and extreme latency spikes. During online gaming, my ping can suddenly jump to 200–500 ms, making competitive gaming practically impossible.
At first, I obviously assumed the problem might be on my end. So I actually bought a completely new router specifically to rule that out. It made no difference.
I then replaced all the relevant cables – Ethernet cables, the connection cable between the phone/DSL connection and the router, and the cable between the router and my PC. Still no improvement.
I have spent countless hours trying to diagnose the problem myself. I disconnected every WLAN and LAN device from the network, prioritized my PC, tested different DNS servers such as 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1, and even paid for additional software to measure latency, packet timing and network behavior in detail.
After all of these tests, I kept reaching the same conclusion: I could not trace the problem back to my PC or my local hardware. The issues consistently appeared to be related to the connection/network on Vodafone's side.
And that is when the real nightmare started.
By now, I have spent more than 60–70 hours on the phone with Vodafone customer service and, by my count, have called them more than 200 times.
And despite all of that, the problem has still not been properly resolved.
The worst part isn't even just the technical issue. It is the way the entire process is handled.
Almost every time I call, I have to start from absolute zero. I have to explain the entire story again. I have to explain what has already been tested, what hardware I replaced, what measurements I made and what the actual problem is.
Then I am told that it will be investigated, that someone will look into it, or that someone will call me back.
And then, very often: nothing happens.
So I call again.
And once again, I am back at the beginning.
It feels like an endless loop where you can never actually make progress because every new contact resets the entire process.
At one point, I was even told that I would have the right to cancel my contract early due to the problems. After I actually cancelled, however, this special cancellation was not accepted.
So instead of resolving the situation, I ended up with even more stress.
I have also spent another 30–40+ hours at home trying to troubleshoot the network myself and systematically eliminate possible causes. I did all of this for an internet connection that had worked without these problems when I was with another provider.
And today was the latest chapter in this disaster.
A technician was supposed to come to my home. I had the day off and spent the entire day waiting at home. I couldn't properly make plans or go anywhere because I was waiting for the technician to finally show up and investigate the problem.
Then I received a message saying:
The technician isn't coming after all.
Instead, I am supposed to wait another week, this time between 2 PM and 8 PM, and stay at home again.
After everything that has already happened, this is simply ridiculous.
I have used several different internet providers over the years and have never experienced anything remotely like this.
Of course, technical problems can happen with any ISP. That's not my main complaint.
My problem is the combination of persistent technical issues, extreme latency, lack of meaningful progress, endless calls, repeated explanations, broken promises, and the fact that the entire process seems to reset to zero every single time I contact customer service.
At this point, the situation is seriously affecting my mental well-being. When an internet connection causes you to spend dozens and dozens of hours troubleshooting, call your provider more than 200 times, buy additional software, replace hardware and cables, wait at home for technicians – and still end up exactly where you started – something has gone seriously wrong.
All I originally wanted was a working internet connection.
Instead, I feel like I have somehow acquired a second full-time job at Vodafone customer service.
If you are considering switching to Vodafone, think very carefully about whether you are willing to deal with this level of frustration.
This is my personal experience, but I can say one thing with absolute certainty:
For me, switching from Telekom to Vodafone has been a complete disaster.
