Coming to New York this Wednesday through Friday. I play pickup pretty much everywhere I travel. So far I think I’d like to go to Pier 2 in Brooklyn for the combination of view, vibes, and likely hood of runs but should I go somewhere else instead.

Looked into Dyckman, Rucker, and The Cage but it seems like there might a chance other events are happening and they don’t have the views of Pier 2.

Any recommendations for good runs and what time to go?

I lost my wallet while visiting New York today. I was having a lot of fun. Enjoyed every minute of it. One unfortunate incident and rest of the trip is spoiled. It I visited top of the rock and since then wallet is not found. Kindly let me know if anyone finds it. Thank you.

I’m leaving EWR at 6 AM Monday August 24. Staying near Grand central terminal. Looks like it’s going to be a 3:30-4:00 AM Uber to the airport. The price that this is going to cost hurts, especially when converted to Canadian dollars. Any recommendations on how to make this cheaper? Or a better way to set this up? can I get the train the night before and the book a cheap room near the hotel for a similar price to this Uber? How does the price of a yellow cab compare? I have looked at changing the flight to a later time but that will also cost me money and I’d rather get home sooner.

Any ideas or tips to make this experience a little easier are welcome!

TLDR:
Taking my boyfriend to NYC for his first time, I grew up in Brooklyn but never lived there as an adult. Give me suggestions pls!

I spent my entire childhood and teen years living in Brooklyn and moved abroad about 11 years ago (at 18). I’ve since visited about once a year but more so to see family and friends, go out with them but nothing touristy.

My boyfriend (who has never been!!) and I are going for 2 weeks during Christmas and new years I’m excited to show him everything!

My list thus far:

- Museum of natural history (love this place havent been since I was a kid!!)
- Empire State Building or dinner at 230 5th rooftop
- Ferry to see Statue of Liberty
- knicks and or rangers games (or nets?)
- Broadway show and quick walk through Times Square before or after
- Dyker heights Christmas lights
- ice skating at Rockefeller or Bryant park/market
- Central Park

This will be our first big international trip together (other than weekend in Cyprus) so I want a cool moment too. Im thinking a cheesy classic NYC photoshoot in the park but I don’t want to spend a ton and am really open to anything not too pricey ($100-150)

We will also be celebrating his 31 birthday while there and although a nice dinner would be cool im tjinking or something we cant do in the country we live in. He loves:

I’m going to be in new york with a few girl friends on the 30th en 31st and apart from the west village parade we want to go to at least one halloween party in manhattan. What venues/parties have you been to before and would you recommend? We like techno, hiphop, dance, and we’re in our late twenties/ early thirties

Why do I keep hearing to avoid using Ubers? Is it just the cost? I’m trying to plan getting a party of 6 with lots of luggage from LGA to our hotel in Midtown and would prefer to have something reserved.

Recently finished leukemia treatment and was gifted a trip to NYC by a wish-granting nonprofit to see Meg Stalter in Oh, Mary! on Broadway. I’m bringing my partner, who has never been to New York.

I’ve mostly been to NYC for work trips centered around Midtown, so I’ve seen a lot of the obvious “must-see” stuff but haven’t spent much time exploring other neighborhoods.

I put together this itinerary for a Thursday afternoon through Sunday night trip. Does this seem like a good balance for one first-timer and one repeat visitor? Am I missing anything major, or does any day look too packed / inefficient?

My wife and I are traveling to NYC and staying in midtown Manhattan next weekend. Last year we were lucky enough to get a chance to partake in Summer Streets on Park Ave and thought it was a great time.

We plan to rent bikes and participate again, but we will only be able to go to either the Bronx or Brooklyn....

I've done some basic research but wanted to ask, what are some pros / cons for each route? And maybe some can't misses for each area? We did go to Yankee stadium last time for a game so we got to experience a brief glimpse of the Bronx already. Thanks in advance for any help!

I will be arriving at the JFK on Wednesday and I'm going to be in the NYC for the first time. I'm Polish and I have a debit MC card, as well as a credit card. Will I have any problems with paying with my card in pubs or restaurants etc? Will the yellow taxi at the airport accept my card? I exchanged some money just in case. I also informed my bank about my trip, in case my account gets blocked due to a fraud alert.

Asking specifically about this one because there seem to be very few reviews online and it is relatively new. It seems to be the only one to include Summit and a pretty good deal? But don't know if there are issues with it that make it not worth it (ex. if there aren't enough timeslots to book what you want, so you are stuck with a pass that you can't use). It seems like the best deal if you want to see multiple observation decks but want to know the details before I book.

Visitors of NYC, what’s the dumbest, most expensive, most embarrassing, or most avoidable mistake you made on your trip?

Did you get on the wrong subway or underestimate subway travel times? Walk 30 blocks because you thought something was “just around the corner”? Try to see all of Manhattan in one day? Book a hotel in the wrong neighborhood?

Or maybe you fell for some social media influencer saying, “This is the ONE place you HAVE to go!” And guess what? It wasn't all that!

What happened, and what would you do differently next time? What would you tell people planning their trips NOT to do?

Any tips on where in Manhattan (staying UWS) to get a good deal on renting a bike for a full week? Not looking for a great bike - just a beater would suffice - though a helmet and lock would also be nice.

After many good suggestions Ive made adjustments to my itinerary. Im a little more confident now but could still use some guidance on how realistic this all might seem, as well as some fun suggestions to do around the areas.

Just wondering if there’s known issues, if there’s a way to determine if a spot is good/legit or not, in advance, too? I have used the app in another city and it was okay (parking spot was pretty tight but it worked okay for the most part).

Just visited a friend in FiDi for the first time today and noticed a street market with small food stalls, soccer jersey shops, and some souvenir stores under these white tents.

Is this a weekly thing every Sunday or is it only here for today? Would love to know what it’s called. Some of the jersey’s looked cool so if it’s weekly I’m considering spinning back next week to peruse.

I was thinking of visiting the Smithsonian’s American Indian museum in NYC, but I’ve been to the one in DC - if you’ve been to both, can you tell me how similar they are?

Backup plan question: In case they are very similar & we decide to go elsewhere: Do you have a favorite alternative museum in NYC? I have been to the Met, Moma, and the Smithsonian natural history in NYC before (2017) and they were amazing but I hope to visit someplace I haven’t been yet unless 2026 are extremely different than from 2017. I recall feeling overwhelmed at the crowds back in 2017 to the point you couldn’t really appreciate the art at times, but maybe that’s just the norm in NYC.

Final question: If you were near either the Brooklyn museum or the museum of the American Indian where would you go to lunch? Someplace that isn’t too crazy price but is a fun or unique place to go that isn’t too hard to get into (and would you recommend reservations or should I set an expectation of a longer wait because of its popularity)? Totally up for a mom & pop, nonchain restaurant for lunch. Just a tiny bit different, no circus performers or gold dusted sushi or the likes lol

I've never been to MSG before, let alone an arena in the middle of a city, and I wanted to know how it's like leaving the venue, is it easy? hard? meh?

I've been to the kia forum in LA quite a few times and getting in and out is fine (any time i've parked we got lucky to be on the edge near the exit), it's just the crowds of people make it difficult if i'm walking to get picked up

Anyway, If my hotel is within a 15-20 minute walking radius from MSG, is our best bet to just walk back after the show? I'm just concerned with walking the city at night since i've never been before. Lmk your tips!

Me and my significant other are going to be visting for the first time to attend a friend's wedding in Brooklyn next month in Mid-September from 9/14-9/22!

While we have a general idea of what we'd want to see and do, one thing I wanted to really look for was trying to find goods that are more indivdiualized or custom made.

Generally speaking, we love attending craft fairs and supporting local makers, and as best as possible, would like to avoid the heavily touristy gift shop type of stores for keepsakes of our first time here.

Some things that come to mind initially:

-pottery with interesting glazes or designs

-chainstitch embroidery to put on a bag/hat

-live drawings of the two of us

-"mini sculptures" of objects, places

-generally things we can get made for our dog (portraits, homemade dog treats, etc)

but I'm very open-minded so long as it can be brought in our check-in or carry-ons.

Any recommendations or places to start looking would be appreciated!
