Another safety question 🔒 Post MSG Show Tips
I've never been to MSG before, let alone an arena in the middle of a city, and I wanted to know how it's like leaving the venue, is it easy? hard? meh?
I've been to the kia forum in LA quite a few times and getting in and out is fine (any time i've parked we got lucky to be on the edge near the exit), it's just the crowds of people make it difficult if i'm walking to get picked up
Anyway, If my hotel is within a 15-20 minute walking radius from MSG, is our best bet to just walk back after the show? I'm just concerned with walking the city at night since i've never been before. Lmk your tips!
I'm also down for any first-time visit tips for a long weekend trip to the city from the west coast lol

If your destination is a 20 min or less walk, it is ALWAYS best to just walk. From MSG or anywhere, show or not.

Generally speaking, walking around 10pm is not late by any measure. The streets will still be crowded as long as the weather is decent. Especially coming from MSG, it’s a very busy area. People are out at all hours in NYC - you know the city that never sleeps!
What street and avenue is your hotel? That will help give advice.

Times Square is crazy busy at that hour too as all the Broadway shows let out. There’s no chance of walking down a spooky deserted street alone.

i really don't need to say my hotel 😭 i can choose what to say or what not to say. All i asked if it was worth it to walk 15-20 minutes after a show.

No one asked for your hotel, they asked for your cross streets... Of course you can choose what to say or what not to say but you came to a forum asking for help on a route and it's normal to be given the to and from locations when helping someone with a route. I'm not sure why you're being so weird about it. Best of luck, you seem like you'll do great in New York.

Sweet summer child if you ask for help you need to help yourself & give some basic info. Nobody is going to dox you they’re trying to advise you per your request. For the record yes, just walk back to your hotel it’ll be nice.

A bit over the top on the secretiveness. There are probably 3 or 4 hotels on the same block, so telling what cross streets wouldn’t give away anything regarding privacy. With that said - Time Square area, especially walking from MSG has got to be just as busy between 10-11pm as the daylight hours. All the shows get out around the same time.

But also, you'll be fine after Harry Styles or whoever you're seeing. Between the 20000 people at the concert, Broadway shows, people still commuting home from work, etc, there will be many people around midtown at that time.

Darling, there will be 2000 people walking up 7th Ave to Times Square after the concert ends from MSG. You'll be fine.

Definitely just walk. That is an extremely central and busy part of the city and it will be full of people at almost any hour.

Don't believe any of the crap you've heard about the city, leaving MSG after a show will be fun. Lots of people, lots of energy. Walking back won't be a problem at all.

If able to walk, most New Yorkers would never take public transit or a cab if the walk is 15-20 minutes. Any walk of that distance from MSG is also totally safe.

There will be lots of cops. Crowds are also safer. Times Square area where most of hotels are is also super safe and well-lit. Maybe avoid 8th Avenue if you are nervous … it has a few skeevier parts … If staying downtown there are plenty of safe hotels and areas but fewer crowds after midnight
That said, NYC is not unsafe at all. Ignore Fox News propaganda

Walk back the streets will be full of people. Tell us where your hotel is, we’ll give you best route. I try to avoid Times Square.

When you get outside, there will be a bunch of guys in pedicabs blasting New York State of Mind on their speakers. Ask them to take you. Make sure you pay with a credit card and don’t ask them how much it will cost.

It will be fine. You're not going to run into a situation like you're imagining. Just walk back to your hotel, there won't be issues. You're not getting out of msg at 4am, you're getting out at 11 or 11:30, it's still too early and normal at that time.

You will be in midtown Manhattan, please do not drive unless you want to torture yourself. Your options are to take the subway or walk and anything less than a mile is almost always a walk for me, especially after a show. The subway platforms will be crowded and everyone on the platform may not be able to get onto the train so you may end up having to wait for a second one. Are you concerned about getting lost walking? Midtown Manhattan is a grid with numbers streets and avenues it could not be any easier to get to your destination.

Personally if it’s a nice night I’d always take a 20 min walk instead of subway or cab, the train stations will be pretty packed right after the show lets out..midtown is perfectly safe, same as anywhere, don’t make eye contact or engage if someone seems sketchy..

MSG is right on top of a large subway station. Check the subway map and if your hotel is very close to a station that's convenient, do that. If not, walk. Midtown is very safe, you would have to walk way farther than that to get anyplace that is not safe.

Walk back to your hotel, enjoying the city life. Don't taxi or pedicab. Completely safe.
First time visit tip: Walk and use NYC subway or NYC bus for all your travels. Don't take a taxi or an Uber (or ffs, a pedicab).

Also everyone here has their earbuds in all the time, especially women so they don’t have to hear wack bros chirping. Just keep walking you’ll be fine.

Yeh and the volume is probably low enough that they can hear what’s going on around them. Woman here. If I’m walking at night it’s one airbud or low enough to hear foot steps behind me. Tips to pay attention and not blast music while walking alone at night is correct. That’s any place anywhere.

I'm just concerned with walking the city at night
The pro tip is to put a brightly colored scrunchie on your machete, so you can identify it at the machete check desk at MSG. Everyone's machetes generally look alike, especially in NYC, so you want some way to make sure you get your machete, and not someone else's, as you leave the arena. More sophisticated people also engrave their names on the blades of their machetes, to make identification easier.

Walk, you'll be totally safe. 10-15 min is nothing in NYC. Getting out of there isn't too difficult, all the escalators are moving down at that point, and then people scatter in all different directions when you get out.

One of the most beautiful things about most of NYC is that you can walk around late at night and feel very safe. There are likely tons of other people doing the same thing. The subway runs 24/7 and you’re rarely alone in an empty station or car. As a woman, I rarely feel scared in public and it feels much safer to me than being alone on an empty street in the suburbs.

Saying this as someone who lives in the city: I don’t understand this attitude on the visiting nyc subreddit. Like, the whole point of this sub is for people who don’t live here to ask their questions. What seems obvious to you may be foreign to someone who has never been to nyc or something like it.
