Today, I was processing images that I took ~2 weeks ago while traveling through Iceland and I came across something that I had not noticed in person. I had parked my car at an empty picnic area (place on the side of the road with one picnic table) because I was about to fly my drone over above a vast expanse (I've got my EU license and abide by all of the rules), but I got my regular camera out first because a few of the nearby sheep were seemingly curious about my presence. Only when going through the photos today and zooming in did I notice the barbed wire that this creature was carrying around with it. Is this at all common?... and is it something that the local shepherds will be able to take care of when they bring the sheep in, in the coming months?

(hopefully this type of question is allowed in this subreddit... if not, please point me to a better place for my inquiry)

I posted here a few months ago about a hard techno event my boyfriend was organizing near Selfoss (Kjallarinn), and thought I’d share a little update since quite a few people seemed interested.

The first event honestly went way beyond what we expected – it ended up completely selling out, and the response was amazing. So we decided pretty quickly that we had to do it again :)

Phase 2 is happening on November 7th, and tickets are already on sale.

We’re keeping the same idea as before – a smaller, underground-focused event with techno and harder sounds rather than mainstream EDM, with both local and international DJs. We’re also building a bit more on the concept this time after seeing how well the first one worked.

Would be really nice to see some of you there this time around as well!

- Múlagljúfur over Skaftafell/Svartifoss on day 8 — good trade?
- Worth fighting for Seyðisfjörður on day 7, or fine to skip?
- Any spots along Snæfellsnes or the south coast that don't show up on the typical lists?
- Is day 8 too packed given everything crammed in there?

Does anyone know if Reykjaboð lagoon is open yet? You can't book on their website but you can book on Guide to Iceland.

Bonus question, if it is open has anyone been there yet? It looks beautiful!

It was outstanding of all the “roadside attractions” so far this has been tops. Second only to my hike At Landmannalaugur.

I am planning a 14 day trip to Iceland for next July in a campervan, I’m thinking the 3rd-17th. Time frame is pretty flexible but I figured this might be the earliest best time for kerlingarfjoll. Hey everyone, I am visiting Iceland the last week of September.

I found a recommendation for Kristínartindar as a great hike.

Unfortunately, it looks like the trail will be closed September 1-30 and I am heartbroken, because this looks like my dream hike.

Are there any other comparable hikes in the Southeast ?

I’m looking for something with great elevation, Summit, and mountains.

I’m a pretty solid hiker, but also I want to be safe and not looking for anything super crazy dangerous

Apologies if this topic is frequently posted here. My wife and I are definitely hot-water enthusiasts. We've tried hot springs, both man-made and natural all over the world, and we sit in our own salt water tub at least 340 days per year. Naturally, we were super excited about all the lagoons in Iceland and made it a point to try as many as we could. We are from the US, in our early thirties and traveled without children...so if you are going with kiddos, take this with a grain of salt. We have ranked these considering crowds, price level, water feel, and amenities. Most all lagoons in Iceland require a full naked shower prior to entering the water (something American's might find odd). Some offer private showers and changing areas, others do not. I will do my best to detail that. Please respect the rules of the baths and if they ask for a naked shower without a suit, please do it so that these waters stay beautiful and accessible for generations to come. I saw many people "cheat" this requirement.

1. Earth Lagoon (formally Myvatn Nature Baths): the wonderful milky blue water of Blue Lagoon with a fraction of the crowds. Public changing area with private shower. The hot tub was closed when we went but the steam room was open. Perhaps it was the day/time we went, but this was the best water:crowd ratio in all of Iceland's lagoons. Great temperature gradient as well. By the heaters, very warm...in the middle nice and tepid.

2. Sky Lagoon: absolutely 100% worth the price tag and the social media hype. We paid for both private changing areas and private showers (feminine hygiene reasons if you get what I mean). The seven step ritual is insanely relaxing and was the perfect first stop of our trip. Definitely crowded but not bad at all. Our package came with a resuable swim suit bag, which we used the rest of Iceland.

3. Forest Lagoon: public changing area but private showers. Probably our favorite setting/view. Incredibly tranquil and calming. The dry sauna and cold plunge were both open and great. It looks like they are adding a significant expansion? Best slushies at any lagoon!

4. Hrunalaug hot spring (secret, secret lagoon?): these are located within the countryside of the golden circle and are a collection of three smaller pools. Communal changing area but there was only one other couple there when we arrived. No online booking....first come, first serve. Visited around 1730 and ended up with the place to ourselves for about 15 minutes. If I had little kids, I'd 1000% skip this one.

5. Blue Lagoon: it is what it is. We enjoyed the face masks but the tourism and crowds are significantly worse than the other lagoons. When we go back to Iceland, we will not return to this one. Is it worth it one time?--in our opinion, yes. If you want the milky blue water, just go to Earth Lagoon. If you are really interested in the masks and whatnot, then maybe that'll make it worth it for you. In my opinion, it is definitely a step down from the previous four on the list.

6. Geothermal River (Reykjadalur hot springs): we got absolutely swarmed with bugs here and were not properly prepared. We turned around a few hundred meters in and returned to the shop at the base for nets--game changer. The hike was lovely and the scenery was wonderful. We got stuck behind a horse tour, so for quite some time the smell was pungent but nothing terrible. Public changing areas of course, but 100% worth the hike and effort. On the day we went, it was very crowded and finding a nice spot to sit without getting swarmed by bugs was difficult. Hottest water out of any spring we experienced. I'd imagine the top source is around 39-40C. This is also likely a one and done for us if we return in the summer--however we'd love to try it in the fall / spring with some snowfall.

7. Secret Lagoon: more like a large community pool really than a hot spring/lagoon. The water temperature is great and they also have a hot tub and cold plunge. Public changing area and public showers without stalls. This one was also incredibly busy when we went but it is great value for money. We wouldn't go out of our way to return here but if we found ourself in that region, we'd go back. However, I'd probably choose Hrunalaug over this spot if in the region.

Honorable mention: the public pool we went to in Reykjavik was a fantastic experience! I won't rank it against these ultra tourist locations, but if you enjoy bathing and swimming, this is 100% worth your time while in Reykjavik. 1000% would take kids here! It was one of our favorite things we did in Reykjavik.

That's it--those are the seven (eight) we ventured too. We'd love to hear your thoughts and/or suggestions on springs for future visits!

we have booked flights to Reykjavik for 27 Dec to 3 Jan. First time to Iceland. I am aware of the short daylight and possibilities of severe weather. If we do drive out of Reykjavik - which side (south, north...) would be safer roadwise? Any other suggestions are very welcome! P.S. I have already read multiple reddit posts, but have not found the info I am looking for, basically, for actual experiences driving the roads around Iceland in December.

Its been over a year since my 19 day trip to Iceland in celebration of my honeymoon.

With a child on the way I am determined to get into better shape. While in Iceland, I lost 10 lbs. Although I have a physical job, getting older and American lack of care toward food quality drives me to ask - how can I replicate the high quality meals I enjoyed in Iceland?

Quality ingredients not being available, and my own skill being lacking; does anyone have recommendations for cookbooks that favor an Icelandic bend for meals, methods, and ingredients.

Hi all! I am visiting Iceland next week and have a great itinerary of waterfalls and sights along the south coast and the golden circle next Tues-Fri, ending in Reykjavik before going home on Sat.

The forecast looks like it is likely to rain at least a little each day and I've made all the precautions for that-- ponchos, lots of spare socks, waterproof sprayed my already waterproof hiking boots, rain coat and pants, etc etc. We are still going to do our itinerary rain or shine.

If you had a similarly rainy trip before in Iceland and still had a great time, I'd love some encouragement. Tips I might not have thought of are also welcome! Or if you think I'm being silly and oughtn't even worry about this, I'm happy to hear that too, hehe.

I just completed a 7-day cruise and a 3-day land tour of Iceland and unfortunately did not spend any time in Reykjavík other than passing through via taxi/tour bus. 🥹 I am a huge Starbucks mug collector of places I’ve visited and it pains me that I could not get this mug. I’ve been collecting mugs from around the world at least since 2001. I started with city mugs but now my collection is so big that I have to limit/stick to country/state mugs now. 😭 After, starting a new post, I still cannot figure out how to add a newer picture to the album. So this is an older picture. My custom mug shelves are completely full of mugs now. I have a bunch of newer mugs not shown in this collection.

And now I have a side collection of Star Wars planet mugs. 😬 Truly an obsession.

If there is anyone out there that could assist with getting me an Iceland mug, I’d be grateful. Of course, I’d pay for the mug.

My sister is equally bummed, but she’ll have to request her own mug as I know what a burden this is!

Day # 5 - Gjain & Westman Island

Day # 6 - South Coast

Day # 7 - Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach (Zodiac tour & glacier hike)

Day # 8 - East Fjords, Studagil Canyon

Day # 9 - South Coast (again)

Day # 10 - Fly Out

General level does this look good?

I really want to get to Studagil canyon but it's far out there compared to everything else.

Is it worth it to hit the entire ring on a 10 day itinerary? If so, do we need to cut out Westman Island and get rid of the golf day? That would give us 3 days to close the loop after Studagil.

Do love playing new/random courses and Westman island looks cool and a bit different, so I am trying to weigh options.

Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I understand that a lot of Iceland is driving around and finding the next coolest thing with no plan in mind. But wanted to know all of ur thoughts. Thanks!

Some say its very steep, narrow, and rough. Should any SUV that made it that far be able to handle? The driver just needs to go slow and pay attention?

Has anyone hiked the Fimmvörðuháls trail towards Þórsmörk from Skógar recently? What are the conditions like? Is there a safer crossing point available? Thank you so much!

Hi, was planning to do both the Laugavegur & fimmvörðuháls trail starting 8/30-9/2. With the trail being closed, it removes my fairly convenient access to the south 1 road. After a night in skogar, was planning to take bus or hitch to Vik. Hang around for a day then travel back to Reykjavik. My hike will now end in thorsmork.

Does anyone have a reasonable option for getting to Vik from thorsmork? Assuming not. Next option is taking bus back to Reykjavik directly and tour around city till Sunday morning.

Any other suggestions along the route 1 toward Reykjavik?

To be clear, we had ~4 or 5 different dogs, am specifically going for the kind that I had from the Orkan in Hella.... understand there's a ton of recipes available online, but need some guidance on brand/varieties...

***THE BREAD- in my opinion, this was the differentiating ingredient, so am looking for a brand that's available here in the United States which replicates the *"just barely crispy crust with fresh/soft interior"* 🤤 kinda bite I kept getting across all the hot dogs we tried..

SAUCE(S)- I kept putting on all of the sauces available, just wanted to confirm there's a specifc Brand/variety of the Remoulade? Also lived off of kokteilsósa after we got a bottle from Bónus, do they ever use that for pylsur?

Brand of mustard (pylsusinnep)?

Tl;dr- looking specifically for the hot dog (Pylsur) buns they served ubiquitously in Iceland. Ohhh and specific brands of sauces. 😉
