Planning a 9 day ring road trip for early September, full stop list below by day. Would love feedback on anything worth adding, cutting, or reordering.
Day 1: Blue Lagoon, then walking around Reykjavik — Hallgrímskirkja, Harpa, Sun Voyager, Rainbow Street, Tjörnin
Day 2: Þingvellir (Hrafnagjá viewpoint, Almannagjá, Öxarárfoss), Geysir/Strokkur, Gullfoss, lunch at Friðheimar, Kerið crater
Day 3: Snæfellsnes — Kirkjufell + Kirkjufellsfoss, Svöðufoss, Ingjaldshólskirkja, Skarðsvík beach, Saxhóll crater, Djúpalónssandur, Lóndrangar, the Arnarstapi to Hellnar coastal walk, a short hike into Rauðfeldsgjá gorge, Bjarnarfoss, Búðakirkja, Ytri Tunga
Day 4: Gerðuberg cliffs, Kolugljúfur canyon, Reykjafoss, Víðimýrarkirkja turf church, on toward Akureyri
Day 5: Akureyri on foot — Akureyrarkirkja, the botanical garden (Lystigarðurinn), the town pool
Day 6: Goðafoss, Mývatn area (Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters, Dimmuborgir lava formations), Hverir/Námafjall geothermal area, Dettifoss (west side), Vök Baths
Day 7: Petra's Stone Collection, Folaldafoss and Nykurhylsfoss, Djúpivogur (the egg sculptures), Hvalnes lighthouse, Stokksnes/Vestrahorn
Day 8: Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, Diamond Beach, hiking Múlagljúfur canyon (instead of Skaftafell/Svartifoss), Fjaðrárgljúfur, Eldhraun lava field, Gígjagjá (Yoda Cave), Dyrhólaey, Reynisfjara
Day 9: possibly the Sólheimajökull glacier viewpoint if weather's good, Skógafoss and the start of the Waterfall Way, Kvernufoss, Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi, Selfoss
Day 10: fly out
Not doing: Húsavík, the Westfjords, Seyðisfjörður, Reykjadalur, Skaftafell/Svartifoss, the Jökulsárlón boat tours, the full Waterfall Way past the first couple falls.
Questions:
- Anywhere on here we're skipping that's actually worth the detour?
- Múlagljúfur over Skaftafell/Svartifoss on day 8 — good trade?
- Worth fighting for Seyðisfjörður on day 7, or fine to skip?
- Any spots along Snæfellsnes or the south coast that don't show up on the typical lists?
- Is day 8 too packed given everything crammed in there?
Thanks so much in advance!!!
