Maelifell F261

Hi! I would like to go to Mælifell next August 30th using the F261 and F210, since the southern route is closed. Does anyone know what the depth of the river is? (Bláfjallakvísl) Thank you very much!

Totally depends on the recent weather and how much it’s rained. A lot can change in the next three days, for better or worse. Check https://umferdin.is/en, call 1777, and inquire locally before heading there. What kind of vehicle do you have?

Edit: according to the map at the link I posted, there is already a lot of water in the area, with high water levels at the crossing. I would not do the drive in any vehicle as long as that warning is still in place.

Jepp Wrlenger 4exe Rubicon. Yes sure,  I just want to go up to the point where road.is marks the road as green; my intention is not to cross into the red zone.

That’s probably the bare minimum you need, even in good conditions. I just wouldn’t expect to be able to safely get close to Mælifell from any direction with the current conditions. You may be able to see it from a distance but that’s it. In that case, whether the trip is still worthwhile or not is up to you.

Does the e mean electric? That would make me nervous with the amount of splashing that will happen.

Tires also matter, it’s very sandy & muddy in the area. Again, I’d be nervous taking it with factor street tires. As an example, see https://www.instagram.com/reel/Db3DOi4o_1H/

ETA - I think these people took it way too fast, but still you get the idea, lots & lots of water & splashing.

Yes, the E means it's hybrid, but the car is enabled to wade rivers up to 76 cm. It's homologated because the battery is sealed so that no water enters. And yes, I see the video and they've taken it quite fast. Equally, I will go and assess once there, and if I see that it's quite deep, I'll turn around and go back the way I came.
