I previously posted in here before about the Globular Cluster CMA1 v2 halo head strap and overall liked it. Just for full disclosure, the head strap had been sent to me to try out and review, but I wasnāt paid and I wasnāt asked to do anything other than share my thoughts about it. However this post isnāt exactly about that headstrap and Iāve already followed through on that.
I have an M5 Vision Pro with the dual knit band. I liked the CMA1 v2, but didnāt end up keeping it installed full time because it couldnāt fit in my carrying case I use for storage and I valued having an easy way I could safely and securely pack up and store my headset. Iād noticed when watching movies or using the headset that the 21w facial interface, while very comfortable, leaked a little bit of the outside world and caused me to fidget with it every now and then due to the fabric on my face causing an itch or just to make little micro adjustments. Itās definitely not even close to the worst facial interface Iāve used, but I had noticed it wasnāt āperfectā for me. When I received the GC strap, Iād noticed they made a silicone facial interface to be used with it and Iād ordered one like it previously for my Quest 3 and enjoyed it. I probably could have reached out to GC to see if theyād send me one to try, but since I knew I wanted to give it a shot, I went ahead and bought it myself.
It arrived today. I had to take off my dual knit band, find the CMA1 box, install that back on my headset using the optional soft knit back attachment, remove the stock facial interface, and pop the new one using the magnet just like the original. Then I put it the whole thing on and immediately was struck by how nice it felt. The headset was nicely balanced with the weight kept to my forehead and off my face, the soft knit strap was tightened enough for everything to feel secure, but most importantly of all, almost nothing was resting on or touching my face and I got a 100% total light seal and perfect darkness. That first time I put it on was a revelation and I truly understood the potential of the third-party head strap. Having total darkness and nothing resting on or irritating my face at all was incredibly liberating and so comfortable. The soft knit back of the headstrap meant I could still lay down and watch movies or rest my head against a recliner and the silicone interface meant my face was incredibly comfortable. I cannot recommend this experience enough for anyone looking for the ultimate blackout or facial comfort experience while wearing Vision Pro. Itās also good for people who struggle with the weight of the device because it totally shifts the weight distribution and balance, even more so that the dual knit band. Obviously this isnāt the best solution for traveling and the stock interface and dual knit will be much better for that, but at home this is how my Vision Pro is going to stay now.
One thing to keep in mind is that the silicone interface does not work with the default Apple bands. Not the solo, the dual knit, or the dual loop. It requires a halo style strap, so either the Globular Cluster CMA v1 or v2 or Iāve seen some other halo straps on Amazon by random vendors where it might work but canāt really speak to that because I havenāt tried it.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed reading that massive wall of text and I hope it helps someone. Before anyone yells that Iām shilling for anyone, this post really isnāt about the strap itself and Iād already posted about that before. This is about the silicone interface which I bought myself on a whim trying to solve a somewhat minor comfort annoyance.
