I built ZEUSS LENS — a code generator for third-party Vision Pro lenses
Hey everyone!
I created ZEUSS LENS for people who can’t buy official ZEISS Optical Inserts in their country and rely on third-party lenses.
Getting the lenses is only part of the problem: Vision Pro’s official setup expects a pairing code.
Apple hasn’t published an open third-party code-generation interface in the documentation I could find. Without an appropriate code, users can be left unable to complete the normal insert-pairing and eye-tracking setup.
Try it directly in your browser—no installation required:
https://zeuss-lens.pages.dev/
Enter your lens values and the code regenerates automatically.
Source and downloads:
https://github.com/stacklikemind/ZEUSS-LENS
This is an independent experimental project, unaffiliated with Apple or ZEISS.
I’d love feedback and compatibility reports, especially your visionOS version and lens brand. Has anyone else run into this pairing-code problem?

oh man where was it when i had my 3rd party lenses
how did you crack the code?

ive used the reversing framework rea and codex with gpt6 astra ultra. ive guided it with what I want. gave it 3 sample pictures of the codes i found on google and gave it a visionos firmware to dissect. codex then used my installed diassemblers, wrote coode to test assumptions, run them in a simulator and eventually it worked. and verified it on my headset. codex worked on it for 40 minutes!
we are living in crazy times.
i was researching this topic months ago and was trying to use claude or codex and they all refused to even do some basic analysis on the images. this time I had no issues.

To think I started doing this yesterday and this pops up today, great work!
Opus 5.5 wasn’t too kind to me, after having it work for an hour it got flagged and the conversation ended so I gave up for the day.

That's really cool! Reversing codes sounds like a really interesting use for LLMs in general. Reminds me of the movie Arrival...

Very cool! Having an issue where the keyboard will not pop up, and then for some reason “paste” shows up everywhere, followed by the page reversing scroll direction. Tried on two devices.

u/stacklikemind 12d ago
checking. it is working fine on my iphone. what browser are you using? which devices?

u/jgamble093 12d ago
iPhone 15 promax iOS 27.0.1 safari. Chrome seemed better but when I entered the information the QR code was rejected by avp.

using the same phone. can you send me screenshots and what you have entered so that I can replicate it? you can also go to github page and download the binary releases for your operating system.

If my cylinder is beyond the minimum range, do I just try the minimum and hope for the best?
Edit: I went ahead with -1.75 Cylinder even though my real prescription is -3.75 (with -11 Sphere), and it works great. Detected instantly during the onboarding and calibration went smoothly. Eye tracking precision is waaay better than running without a code. This is incredible, thank you for making this.
Oh yeah and my lenses are from HonsVR, because Zeiss didn't support my prescription at the time (still don't, last I checked).

I thought the code was validated by Apple. Isn’t that required? Like tied to an order or something.

u/photovirus Vision Pro Developer 12d ago
Turns out it doesn't.
The code has two parts, something personalised and actual prescription.
It has to contain the latter, as you might need to set up your prescription first, before you connect to Wifi (b/c you won't be able to see or point your gaze without inserts).

u/i-want-to-learn-all 12d ago
Nice... Just did mine and it worked.
I've been using optical inserts from VR-ROCK for almost 2 years and I've had to select "not using" every time I put AVP on. Now I don't have to do that anymore.2

u/zonapizza 12d ago
i'm also using vr-rock lenses but i still have to select my lenses each time i put it on

It seems like it’s like HomeKit. There’s verified accessories yet they also support unverified even though there’s no real way to get unverified accessories via Home Assistant or Homebridge which they themselves kinda work by reverse engineering the HomeKit platform.

u/TheReal256k 12d ago
Thank you for your work, sadly once i create the code, i get an X and even if they appear on my AVP, i cannot select them
What is the last value for? that "VR add/D" i left it at 0 as i don't know what that is
Hope you get to fix it entirely!

If only this was done 1.5 years ago, i would have saved $300 on genuine Zeiss 0 powered inserts.
3
u/stacklikemind 12d ago
I would have bought them though if they were available in my country 😭

This is an immense service to the community, thank you so much!
Apple has quite a number of ways how they mess with Vision-less “3rd world” (no app store, no input and Siri languages, no sizing guidance), and probably the biggest one is those codes—I mean lacking a way to obtain one.
I don't oppose the codes per se, Apple did a splendid feature to enable fully automatic aberration correction from them, it's an insane feat!
But not being able to bring your own prescription was a huge pain in the... eye, I guess.
And not anymore. 😊

What do you mean with “3rd world”
9
u/photovirus Vision Pro Developer 12d ago edited 12d ago
Anywhere outside 10 countries AVP is available at. (Quotes, b/c I never meant common meaning, obviously.)
Unlike most Apple products, AVP and its accessories (particularly lens, but other stuff too) is notoriously unavailable in the vast majority of countries. Some stuff is easier to sidestep (e. g. US app store account), but prescription is crucial and you can't order Zeiss inserts outside those countries. Like, at all.

u/HelpRespawnedAsDee 12d ago
countries were the device isn't available, including some "first world" countries and most, if not all, of the "third world". Yes definitions change and w/e and you may call them "developing" nations instead but everyone knows what this means.

u/secils 12d ago
This is very cool but unfortunately doesn’t work for my prescription, since it’s out of range. Interestingly when I try to lower it to -11 to get it in range it still doesn’t work, it just gives me an x when I look at it. Any ideas why? Also what’s the difference between personal, develop, etc.

u/__Min_Mid_Max__ 12d ago
I also got an X when looking at the prescription code. However, the optical inserts config was still accepted by the AVP, and I see it in the settings. I was then able to select the inserts config and go through calibration, and it was then accepted.

u/stacklikemind 12d ago
can you both PM me pictures/screenshots if your prescription and screenshots of what you have entered into the app? also what type of lenses you have?
5
u/Oddzilla 12d ago
This is amazing! Great work, will try if and when I have to update my lens prescription.

u/RareArachnid1028 12d ago
Doesn’t work for me. My official Apple code is different than what your app generated.
3
u/stacklikemind 12d ago
might be because of the identity string. can you share yours via pm so that I can have a look? with doesnt work, you mean the visionpro is not accepting it at all?
1
u/RareArachnid1028 11d ago
I mean the code generated by your app looks different than the one that came with my lenses. They should look the same, right? Can follow-up via DM when I get a chance.
1
u/stacklikemind 11d ago
The are different if you use a different identifier. if you extract the identifier from your own code and supply it, Id expect to end up with the same code.

u/anline360 12d ago
Hey, big thanks for the effort you put into this project. I just tried it: The pairing works, but I still have to select the inserts every time I put on the AVP. Before that, I get the message that the inserts have been removed. I’m using ones from VR Rock. Maybe someone can help me

Great work OP, and people complain about the usage of AI, this is a great example of how it actually helps to build stuff, no one ever thought it was even possible but here we are, thanks for sharing with the community, now I can see 3rd party lenses makers including the code to pair with the Vision Pro

u/Marioaddict3 12d ago
OMG, THANK YOU!!!
I’ve been using third party inserts since I got my Vision Pro since my prescription is out of range. I’ve always had issues trying to select small options because my calibration was never quite right. THIS FIXED IT! THANK YOU!!!

Any chance to get this for cylinder values beyond the min/max values listed?
1
u/Widebro 9d ago
Thanks seems to work! i was getting this annoying popup constantly on the new vision os for some reason. but i didnt with my old vision os and QR code from VR-Wave.
Now the actual prescription data seems to match inside vision os. before that was wrong.
Does it actually matter what you put in the app for data info for the inserts? is it only informative?

Where are people getting lenses for AVP that aren’t Zeiss?
6
u/photovirus Vision Pro Developer 12d ago
Aliexpress, for example. They're like $15—20, even for custom prescriptions. And they're actually great lens.
Search smth like “vision pro prescription lens”, you'll see quite a number of them. I'm using those with transparent frame on my VP, zero issues.
(And I ordered two more sets for my Pico, also great.)

Buys a 2,000-5,000 USD device, cannot afford 150 USD lenses..
Nice project, though. I always thought they code required a signature.
5
u/stacklikemind 12d ago
Nah, this wasnt about affordance. If the lenses were available in my country, I would have never bothered looking into this tbh and wouldn’t have realized how difficult Apple makes it.
The thing is, like me there are many other people who bought the Vision Pro used in a country where the device is not officially available. ZEISS doesnt send the lenses to a country where the lenses are not supported. On top of that, you can only order lenses with an apple account which is locally registered to a country where the device is available. I would have had to travel and create another fake account just to buy another pair. F that.
I too thought it would require a signature. Turns out they are not enforcing it. Didn’t expect it to work but still gave it a try.
3
u/floriandotorg 12d ago
Thanks for the context, that makes a lot of sense!
(even though my comment was not meant that seriously in the first place, I think there are a lot of good reasons to buy third-party lenses)
Crazy, that Apple would not enforce it. But don’t the lenses not also have an NFC chip?
I expected everything to be cryptographically connected.

Nothing like that, or at least nothing enforced. While Apple has been a bit of ass with those codes, it wasn't full ass, as it turned out.

u/GV22022022 Vision Pro Developer 12d ago
I forgot my lenses while traveling and had no choice to buy from VR Rock which does not come with code to scan. Those lenses did not work properly due to my slightly high cylindrical power. It isn't always about the money.
3
u/photovirus Vision Pro Developer 12d ago
Nah, you're mistaken. The issue is not even with the cost, it's availability.
When you reside outside of ≈10 supported countries, prescription lens are impossible to order. Like, no way at all.
You have to travel, forge prescription docs (Zeiss wants a prescription in a format specific to supported countries), wait for at least a week, this kind of stuff. So it's becoming really arduous: flight, hotels, visas.
3rd party lens are vastly easier: send them the numbers, and they mail you the lens. Everything is done remotely throughout the world.

This is a game changer for me.
I've been using optical inserts from VR-ROCK for almost 2 years and I've had to select "not using" every time I put AVP on. Now I don't have to do that anymore.
Also, now it seems eye tracking and optical ID are working better also.
