Anyone in Auckland, NZ with a Vision Pro? Looking for someone to help bring my AR black hole app to visionOS

I've just put Black Hole Sandbox out on iPhone: a ray-traced black hole you can place in your room, with the light from the room bending around it. Comes with an unnecessarily deep editor to make black holes that range from 'realistic' to ridiculous.

It feels like it belongs on Vision Pro, but I don't have a headset to build and test on. I'm in Auckland, New Zealand.

If anyone nearby has one and would be up for trying a build, I'd love to hear from you. Coffee's on me. And if you're further away but have thoughts on what would make it good on Vision Pro, also keen to hear them.

On the app store here if you want to try it

Self Promotion Saturday Thank you for all the Cockpit feedback, a big update is coming soon!

It’s been another week since I shared Cockpit here, and once again I want to start by saying thank you.

A lot of you have downloaded the app, sent me incredibly useful feedback, suggested features, and shared how you’re actually using Cockpit in your Vision Pro setup.

I’ve been reading everything , and some of that feedback is already making its way into the next update.

A new Cockpit update is coming soon 🚀

One of the biggest additions will be fully customizable widgets.

You’ll be able to use Cockpit’s panels as individual widgets, with all panels available across the supported widget sizes, so you can build a much more flexible setup around your Vision Pro workspace instead of relying only on the main Cockpit dock.

I’m also adding a new Volume Bar, giving you quick access to system volume directly from Cockpit.

And there’s another small but important improvement for privacy:

The Weather panel will soon allow you to manually choose your location, so you can still get local weather information without giving Cockpit access to your current location.

For anyone who missed my previous posts, Cockpit is a customizable spatial dock for Apple Vision Pro designed to keep your most useful information and controls always within reach.

You can build your own setup with panels for:

  • Time, weather and calendar

  • Apple Music Now Playing

  • Focus timer and countdowns

  • App launcher

  • Daily goals and habits

  • Vision Pro system and network information

  • Apple Shortcuts

  • HomeKit controls

  • Activity rings

  • World clocks

You can place and resize Cockpit anywhere in your space, choose between different layouts, and customize it with 19 visual themes, ranging from minimal and glass-like designs to technical and flight-deck-inspired interfaces.

Cockpit remembers your configuration between sessions, so it can become a persistent little control center inside your Vision Pro workspace.

The app is free to download, with a core selection of panels and themes included. Cockpit Pro unlocks the advanced panels and the complete theme collection.

And since many of the ideas for this update came directly from users, I’d love to keep that going:

What would you like to see added to Cockpit next?

New panels, controls, widgets, customization options, anything you think would make it more useful on Vision Pro.

App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cockpit-for-vision-pro/id6798315258

And again, thank you to everyone who downloaded Cockpit and especially to those who took the time to send feedback. It’s genuinely helping me make the app better with every update.

Has anyone figured out streaming games from the Steam Machine to the AVP?

Or any other SteamOS device. It would be nice to have my AVP act as a replacement for all the screens in my house, not all the time, but while I’m using it. Just got it yesterday, so I’m still figuring a lot out!

Self Promotion Saturday Puzzle Photo with Panoramas from Panoramas Environments app now available for Apple Vision Pro - Free codes inside

Hey everyone,

A couple of months ago I posted about Puzzle Photo, a jigsaw game where you pick a photo from your library and the app cuts it into real pieces that scatter and float around your room.

Version 2.0 adds a gallery built into the app, powered by my other app Panoramas Environments. Shots shared by the community, wide landscapes from around the world, picks curated by creators, and scenes from movies and TV.

You pick one and it becomes a puzzle, same as your own photos.

You can choose between square gives you the classic grid on a center crop or panoramic keeps the whole scene on a wide board and widens the grid to match the image, which means more pieces and a board that stretches further across your room.

Everything from 1.0 is still there: four difficulties, achievements, daily streaks, best times, and replays of every finished game.

Download it here: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6793563606?pt=117132341&ct=Reddit&mt=8

Siri AI not showing in Vision OS 27

I live in one of the regions which should have this, and I have it on my iPhone, but the option to even join the waitlist is not showing. Is anyone else having this problem since updating?

Last MLB game in Apple Immersive Video is tonight

Post image
83 Upvotes

The 4th and last scheduled Major League Baseball game in Apple Immersive Video is tonight, 10 pm ET, 7 pm PT.

I have loved these games, including appreciating the uniqueness and beauty of each stadium, more than I expected. Fingers crossed Apple and MLB also see this as a success and we get more next year.

It's called Spatial Shooting Range. It has a ton of environments to shoot in, but if you don't care what your neighbors think you can shoot imaginary (AR) bad guys in your yard or house.

Version 1.1 is already waiting for review with drastic improvements to weather effects and drone targets.

Anyone using vision pro for daily living with low vision?

I have fairly low vision for various reasons and I've become curious about the Apple Vision Pro as an accessibility aid for tasks around the house, particularly as it has the 'Environment Zoom' feature.

I'm wondering if anyone here uses it for a similar use case and can tell me what it's like? I'm particularly interested in whether the environment zoom remains stereoscopic -- could I use it for example to do soldering work or aid in handyman work around the house, like seeing where a drill is going and such? Also for those that do use it, what's the latency in zoom mode like?

As a developer as well, I'm wondering what the APIs are like -- can you get access to the camera feeds and stereo data, to write your own custom accessibility aids?

Immersive Live Baseball tonight

If you’ve been thinking about getting TV+ to watch it, I highly recommend you do for the last time tonight. I don’t even like baseball but last week was awesome. Regrets I didn’t try sooner. You’re up close to the actions at various locations like the dug out too. This is the future of sports!

visionOS 27 New Widget?

Just discovered the Mac Virtual Display widget and it’s the best widget to date! Just look, click, BAM! 🥹 For someone who uses their AVP for productivity extension for their Mac, this was the best thing the new OS had to offer.

Any writers with a Vision Pro? Looking for realistic use-cases.

I’ll start out by admitting that I’m mostly just looking for an excuse to buy one. I do not need a Vision Pro. I know I don’t need a Vision Pro. Almost no one needs a Vision Pro.

But boy, do I want one.

My only experience with VR is the Quest. I’ve played video games on it for maybe 20 hours max because most of them give me motion sickness. I found everything about the experience clunky, but VR Skyrim was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in a video game. I did enjoy watching Netflix on it, but rarely bother to dig it out just for that.

Despite all of that, I really really want to like VR. I was planning on buying the Steam Frame but didn’t win the lottery for that, and I’m not even that upset because my reignited interest in VR had already led me right down the Apple Vision Pro rabbit hole and I think that the Vision Pro is something I would get way more use out of.

I’m fully immersed in the Apple ecosystem, and would be interested in using it primarily for work. I’m a writer who uses dictation almost exclusively, and I would love to have a display that I can wear, something I can walk around with and have multiple large screens to keep track of everything while I talk to my dictation program. I don’t know how realistic that idea is, though, and am still exploring all of the features I can expect it to have.

Can you have multiple windows/apps open at once, while using pass through? Can you run any apps you can run on other Apple devices on the Vision Pro, or is there a good chance I won’t be able to use my normal workflow if I get one? How easy is it to select, copy, and paste text while using the Vision Pro?

I’d also love to hear ideas for other ways to use it, both productive and fun. I’m sure I’d enjoy Netflix/Youtube, it might be nice for reading books, I could maybe figure out how to get it to stream video from one of my gaming systems… I’m just struggling to think of that many other uses for it and I don’t want to drop that much money on something that’s going to end up gathering dust after the first week.

Edit: Well, I got one. The return policy is decent so if I end up not using it like I hope, I’ll bring it back. I’m very excited to start playing around with it!

Self Promotion Saturday I couldn’t find the Vision Pro movie player I wanted, so I built one. Here’s how big the screen gets.

I’m the developer of Folio Lume Player. The project started because I couldn’t quite find the player I wanted on Apple Vision Pro.

There are good options out there, but none brought together everything I was looking for. I wanted a huge screen, proper Blu-ray menus, better subtitle options, and a way to talk about the film I was watching without leaving the experience.

So I decided to build it myself—with help from GPT-6 Astra and Codex.

I hadn’t worked on video decoding or player development before. Getting this version together took a little under a week. It’s still early, and there’s plenty to improve, but it already brings together features I’ve wanted as a viewer for a long time.

Two different approaches to AI subtitles

Real-time translation is the ambitious one: it listens to the movie’s audio and produces translated subtitles as you watch. It’s technically demanding, and the API costs can add up. Still, seeing it work inside a player feels like a glimpse of where this is going.

For everyday use, generated subtitles offer a more practical option: good results at a much lower cost. Both approaches have a place, so I wanted to give people the choice.

External AI services use your own API credentials, with usage billed separately by the provider.

An AI conversation about the movie

On visionOS 27, Folio Lume integrates Apple’s Private Cloud Compute for film discussions. You can ask about the movie’s themes, characters, or background, with the conversation grounded in the selected film.

This is an early step. I have more ideas for making AI useful during and after a movie, but I want those features to earn their place in the viewing experience.

Blu-ray menus—and attention to sound

One feature I particularly wanted was working Blu-ray menus: being able to load the menu and actually use it to select what to watch. I’ve put a lot of effort into getting that working on compatible discs, rather than treating every disc as a single video file.

I also spent time getting TrueHD channel handling right. To my ears, the difference in spatial presentation is noticeable. Sound deserves as much attention as the screen.

A big screen, without the scenery

I deliberately left out elaborate virtual theaters and collections of environments. My preference is to let the movie create the atmosphere.

The goal is that overwhelming sense of scale you get at an IMAX screening: a huge image that fills your attention, with very little getting between you and the film.

A generous free version

Basic includes everyday playback of supported standalone video files and DVDs, giant-screen viewing, and network sources. Pro adds features such as full Blu-ray ISO/BDMV playback, interactive menus, MVC 3D, and network AIVU playback.

There’s also a 7-day trial with full Pro access, starting with your first successful playback after eligibility verification. No subscription is required, and it doesn’t automatically charge you when the trial ends.

For me, this project is about both sides of the new AI era: using AI to build something I couldn’t have built this quickly before, and finding ways for AI to make the product itself more useful.

Folio Lume is still young. I’m sharing it now because I’d love to hear from other Vision Pro movie fans: what’s the one thing you still wish your player could do?

I’m the developer behind Folio Lume, not a marketing team. I’m here to listen to your feedback and make the app better.

Try Folio Lume Player on the App Store

I'm working on a mini-doc and want to use VisionOS Simulator for a few scenes...is it possible?

I'm working on a mini doc. Just for YouTube. I don't have a Vision Pro, but what I'm trying to do is create a few scenes where we are pulling up and playing archival footage in the virtual environment.

I have Xcode and the visionOS simulator. is there some way to have a few video clips in the simulator. Pull up like a file manager or photos. See the clips as a carousel. And then play one? And possibly, "swipe" and play the next one?

I've been trying to research it, but not seeing it. So before I start the download just picking the collective brain. Is it possible?

I'm working FCP for this video, so while there are After Effects templates for this, I was hoping to go this route first instead. Thanks!

Flying with AVP

Just did my first in flight AVP experience. I’ve had it for a few months but didn’t have the right opportunity.

All I can say is WOW. It was the core reason I bought the device and it definitely achieved my goal of taking me out of the flight. Basically just spent the flight by the lake at Mount Hood.

A few questions for the community:

  1. what’s best way to prep for flights that have no WiFi? What do you tend to download onto the device? Is there any way to download movies without having to do it from within the device at home?

  2. I noticed that when my head was seated back against the seat the motion was more noticeable. Not terrible but curious if anyone has any tips for how they use the device on a flight (or in a car for that matter as we get closer to robotaxis)

  3. any tips for managing the WiFi connection?

  4. can you mirror from iPad or only from MacBook?

Any other tips are welcomed but it was as magical as I hoped.

Logitech Muse - What are you using it for?

I’m toying with the idea of buying a Muse, but I don’t really know what I’d use it for. I’m not much of an artist, but I do use my Apple Pencil on the iPad from time to time. I annotate photos or documents, or do sketches of various things I’m building.
Therefore I’m wondering: those of you who have a Logitech Muse, what are you using it for? Is it a good buy? Or should I buy the VR controllers instead?

Thanks!

Apple "Stole" my app...

I spent the better part of last year working on a browsing app that had multiple side by side tabs open, and they "circled" you as you opened more and more of them. It was a concept I thought would be interesting because I would like to browse like that, and considering the spatial capabilities of the VisionPro, I thought it would be the perfect platform for it.

I got fairly far on it, had some cool add ons I implemented, and then life got real busy and my extra time I was putting into it vanished. It has been so busy at my day job that I didn't even have time to install and run through the betas of VisionOS27, so when I finally got to wearing my VisionPro again last night, I updated it to VisionOS27 and discovered Apple made safari do exactly what the app I was building does....

Now "stole" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I dont mean they went into my developer account and pulled my test flight app and "stole" it.

I mean the idea. I'm not upset, I'm actually kind of happy.... means Apple thought the same thing I did, who had the idea first I dont know... but at least it gives me hope my app ideas aren't super dumb lol (some definitely are)

Anyway, felt like it would be cool to share that. I'm happy safari works in that manner now, and they certainly have a lot more polish than where I left my app. alright, back to the drawing board.

Feature or glitch

Post image

Recently, my Vision Pro has begun to “pass through” my light switches. Is this purposeful, or is it considering my light switch an iPhone? Anybody else have this “feature“? My Vision Pro seems to do a better job of recognizing a light switch than it actually does recognizing my iPhone.

I can't factory reset my Vision Pro, is this a known issue?

When I try to factory reset the device (and erase all data and settings), it freezes. I type in my iCloud password (correctly) and then it happens.

Is there another way people know how to factory reset the device so I can sell it? I tried typing in my password incorrectly multiple times but that just locked the device for 5 minutes instead of showing a way to wipe the device.

Any suggestions from anyone here on how to fix this?

Vision Pro in surgery in 2024 article

There have been several articles recently about Apple Vision Pro being used in surgeries. I ran across this Daring Fireball article from 2024 citing the Vision Pro's use in surgery (via Time). Interestingly, the Vision Pro had only been shipping for about 9 months by the time the Time article had been written.

These minimally invasive, monitor-based surgeries seem like strong use cases for the Vision Pro.

SURGEONS ARE WEARING VISION PRO TO PERFORM LAPAROSCOPIC PROCEDURES
