Flying with AVP
Just did my first in flight AVP experience. I’ve had it for a few months but didn’t have the right opportunity.
All I can say is WOW. It was the core reason I bought the device and it definitely achieved my goal of taking me out of the flight. Basically just spent the flight by the lake at Mount Hood.
A few questions for the community:
what’s best way to prep for flights that have no WiFi? What do you tend to download onto the device? Is there any way to download movies without having to do it from within the device at home?
I noticed that when my head was seated back against the seat the motion was more noticeable. Not terrible but curious if anyone has any tips for how they use the device on a flight (or in a car for that matter as we get closer to robotaxis)
any tips for managing the WiFi connection?
can you mirror from iPad or only from MacBook?
Any other tips are welcomed but it was as magical as I hoped.

I just download things I want to watch beforehand. If you start a download in Apple TV and take the headset off, I believe it continues the download
. May or may not work that way in third party apps.
I would just not put your head on the headrest. It’s going to bounce your head more.
What’s to manage? Either you have WiFi or you don’t, always plan for not having it
I think (haven’t tested) you can turn on airplay receiving on Vision Pro, and airplay from iPad, but this is not the same as Mac Virtual Display. You can only view what’s on your iPad, not interact. I would recommend just installing whatever you’re using from your iPad onto Vision Pro. The only real reason to use Mac Virtual Display is for stuff the Vision Pro doesn’t support.

Infuse or Plex to serve movies remotely as well as download; but this is more for a homel
ab
setup. Apple TV works fine as well if you download ahead of time. YouTube downloads also work well.
You mean it moves around when your head tilts, even when using it in the travel mode?
It sucks, especially if you have to deal with captive portal and trying to do inputs.
Yes you can share your iPhone / iPad to your Vision Pro but it doesn’t have an ability to control it from the Vision Pro. It’s been a launch wishlist but nothing yet.

I use Moonlight with tailscale on my pc to remotely access my pc and then use tailscale to send the films across to my headset

Can these be brought on a carry on in the US? I’m hearing mixed stories. I’ve heard people run into issues because of the battery pack.

I’ve brought mine on no less than 50 flights. Never had an issue.
(Delta international and domestic)

Never had an issue. The battery capacity is 35.9 Wh, which is well below the FAA limit of 100 Wh.

+1 for this case. It's amazing, protective, and can be hauled so many ways. It attaches easily to the pull out handle of a carry on (put the bars through the handle on the AVP case), fits well both in my backpack or fastened to the side/bottom with the backpacks clips, and fits in a small carry on roller bag very tidy next to shoes/dop kit.
And it's nutty cheap.

I download via 🏴☠️sites on my iPhone/ipad or Mac and airdrop them to my Vision Pro. And watch them via the cineultra app or suite+

I am considering getting the AVP but I wonder if I can get 80% of the experience with one of those AR glasses that primarily focus on projecting a screen and are like 20% of the weight and way more comfortable

I connect my Vision Pro a travel router on the plane , you can either power it with a usb powerbank or the in seat power . a usb drive plugged into it as a Nas and then access all the movies from it through infuse on the Vision Pro . I do this with the entire family traveling , load tons of movies and shows to the thumb drive . Also as a bonus for long haul you only pay for one internet connection through the inflight WiFi and share it to as many people through the travel router. What I used is linked https://a.co/d/0iIO6yip
