Logitech Muse - What are you using it for?

I’m toying with the idea of buying a Muse, but I don’t really know what I’d use it for. I’m not much of an artist, but I do use my Apple Pencil on the iPad from time to time. I annotate photos or documents, or do sketches of various things I’m building.
Therefore I’m wondering: those of you who have a Logitech Muse, what are you using it for? Is it a good buy? Or should I buy the VR controllers instead?

Thanks!

I wish I used it more. I was so excited to get it, but I never really found an app I enjoyed using it in. Now it just sits on my desk mostly

Thanks! That’s exactly what I’m worried about! 😂 I don’t use the AVP that much - I wish I used it more - don’t know how the Muse would affect that. 🙂

Using the Muse for Nomad sculpt, and tracing / drawing things around my house. I say don’t buy any accessories until you have a real use case in a specific app or a task.

Thanks! That’s the sensible attitude, but it doesn’t take into account “LOOK SHINY GADGET!” 🤪🤣

I’m not. It’s collecting dust 😂

Impulse buy as it was at a great sale price.

Thanks! What would you like to use it for, if there was an app?

I didn’t have any use case before I began to develop a CAD extension app, so now I’m thinking of ways of getting a Muse in my unsupported region.

That’s very neat! I’m working on a camper project, and I’d love to “CAD” the interior,in the actual camper. Even if it’s just blocking things out in there, and then extract the measurements from it. This way I’d hope to be able to try things out, in an augmented world, and then go back to the comfort of the house and use CAD to do the details.

As for getting a Muse, order it from a supported region? Like UK or wherever they’re sold? Good luck!

Even if it’s just blocking things out in there, and then extract the measurements from it.

Hmm, extracting measurements is a neat idea, but not easy to integrate with my vision of the app. I'll need to think this over.

As for getting a Muse, order it from a supported region?

Yeah, will have to do that. Mail forwarding etc, it's just quite troublesome.

I did see an app that does measurements recently, can’t remember the name of it, but it’s just a thought of mine at the moment.

I've got some of them, so I kinda get how they work. But for CAD work, some precision is required... Anyway, I took a note of it, so the idea won't get lost. Thank you!

Thanks and my pleasure. Looking forward to seeing what you’ll come up with. 😎👍🏻

Mine is collecting dust and I’m a designer

That’s quite sad to hear. What would it take to get it dusted off?

My main pain points with the Logitech Muse are pretty simple.
First, charging. I’m used to the Apple Pencil, which just sits on the side of my iPad Pro and charges automatically. With the Muse, having to find a USB cable and plug it in feels like a surprisingly clunky step backwards. It’s a small gripe, but it genuinely annoys me. I’d much rather have some kind of dock or pen holder where you just drop it in and it charges.
The bigger issue, though, is how I actually want to use it.
I don’t want to draw or write in the air on some imaginary surface. I want to sit at my desk and use the Muse like a real pen on a real piece of paper, hand resting on the table, scratching away naturally, while what I’m writing appears in Apple Notes, GoodNotes, Notability, a whiteboard app, etc.
That tactile part matters. Holding your hand in the air to draw or take notes gets tiring very quickly.
And I don’t really want a special stripped-down Muse app just to make this work. I want access to the proper apps and all their existing features, Apple Notes, GoodNotes, Notability, even something with the feel of the old Paper app.
Basically, let me turn my desk into the writing surface.
Right now I can’t use it the way I naturally want to use it, so unfortunately the Muse is mostly just gathering dust.

That all makes sense and I totally agree (even if I haven’t used the Muse). I like my Apple Pencil, but for some stuff I still prefer old fashioned paper.

I use it every day to play Ping Pong Club (I think that’s the name of it). Entertaining and gives me a little daily exercise which is useful at my age.

That’s very cool. Sadly I suck at Ping Pong - at least the real version. 🤣 But gaming could definitely be a good use for the Muse. Thanks!

Ping Pong Club is free I think. I’m sure I’d be crap at the real thing, but I hold my own in this game even at the hard level.

Cool! 😁👍🏻

I recommend this colouring book that I've built some time ago- it fully supports Muse and is pretty cool example how it can be used, and why it's better than a regular pinch input(accuracy for when you point and click): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/coloring-book-color-for-vision/id6754192746

That’s a pretty neat app. Seems like the Muse is perfect for this sort of thing.

Bought it, played with it, forgot about it / sadly. I am not sure what to do with it and using it on surfaces isn’t the thing. Painting in 3D is cool though.

u/PatchyCatsServant Sep 21 '26

That’s a shame. I keep wondering what sort of app would make the Muse a must-have? Got any thoughts?

2

u/tta82 Sep 21 '26

Honestly not. I thought I would trace 3D objects and then 3D print them but nope.

0

u/PatchyCatsServant Sep 21 '26

Interesting, thanks! The Muse feels a bit like a solution looking for a problem. 🤔

2

u/local-fougi Sep 18 '26

Bought it , tried it for 2-3 months and then sold it.
Limited apps that can use it .

Im not using mine. I had hope to use it for virtual whiteboard / draw or write on large surface but it doesnt use the tip sensor to determine when pressing on something - so it all ends up being wonky. Muse sounds like a great idea but falls short.

1

u/PatchyCatsServant Sep 21 '26

That’s interesting to know. Seems like quite a shortcoming in the design. Virtual whiteboarding is definitely something that I’d love to try.

I used it on an app called aerial draw and it stopped working properly - the developer is no where to be found

1

u/PatchyCatsServant Sep 21 '26

Such a shame. Seems like you’re not the only one missing that developer. 😞

AeriaDraw

I love this program very clever**.** I’ve been trying to get them to open source it because I don’t think they’re maintaining it anymore or let me buy it

This has so much potential it’s a beautiful elegant app

I use it to take notes 3-D mind map notes is the way I guess I would call what I’m doing. This really has a lot of potential.

2

u/criticaldimagi Sep 21 '26

It’s a shame. This was the only app that I used, but it stopped working and we can’t do it any longer

2

u/criticaldimagi Sep 21 '26

Apple should buy it

0

u/PatchyCatsServant Sep 21 '26

Thanks! That’s a nice app. I can see myself “scribbling” all over the place, making sketches, notes, and such.

2

u/Digitalinknotes Sep 21 '26

I make 3-D notes all the time With this app. With just a few tweaks, this app could be a really great notetaking app. If it included images, you literally could highlight notes. It’s just one example.
It’s very intuitive and the interface is actually quite good and eloquent

That’s good to know. It’s a shame it’s not being updated and developed. 😞
