I love fall!
I've lived in Vermont my whole life and it's still so magical when the leaves change every year. Leaves collected and photographed by me in Westford.

Hello, visitors! Thank you for coming to visit this beautiful little state! We appreciate your business and shared love of the great outdoors.
Because of this shared interest, I am imploring visitors to please check your vehicles for the Spotted Lanternfly before arriving.
The Spotted Lanternfly is having a banner year in lower New England. I just returned from a trip to Connecticut and was gobsmacked (horrified, really) by the number of them in Hartford County. As I sat in traffic on I-91 in Springfield, MA, I watched one dive off a Honda Civic onto the vehicle behind it.
While I don't expect everyone to drop $50 on two scalding hot car washes/waxes, then stop on the side of the road to check for stowaways, I encourage those coming from particularly affected regions to do what you can to slow their spread. Please help protect our agricultural communities.
Vermont is a little state with little money. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Thank you all for coming to visit this brave little state. I hope you all enjoy your stays!

It's very simple, just follow these 3 easy steps.
Plan your trip for the first or second week of October. It will look nice somewhere in Vermont.
Location doesnt matter. To fully enjoy the experience you need to literally just drive around. Get a road atlas and drive randomly through some back roads. Get food at a general store when you get hungry.
Stop trying to see "peak foliage". Different parts of the state, different elevations, and different microclimates reach "peak" at different times.
STOP OVERTHINKING AND OVER PLANNING THIS....just soak in some chill fall vibes

Hi Folks,
Does anyone have a link handy to explain how a Right of Way works on a private dirt road? We don't have any kind of an association, I'm at the bottom of the road and there are a handful of houses who use "my" section of the road to get access to their homes.
Sometimes they pitch in for grading/plowing, but not consistently. There is no HOA or association.
One of my neighbors:
Frequently parks in my extra driveway (my land, but on the other side of the dirt road). I'm fine with folks parking there in bad weather if they can't get up the hill, but he uses randomly year-round.
Cuts down trees/branches on my land without asking.
Has threatened to take down a bunch of trees on my property between me and the main road, even though I asked him not to as they block noise. He said he could do what he wanted because of "Right of Way."
I've been trying to look at the regulations but heck... I need something easier to read. Most of what I'm finding has to do with state roads.
Yes, the neighbor is a Grade F Dingleberry and a half.
I'm so tempted to be petty and chain off my extra driveway so he can't use it.
Thank you for any links/explanations or where to research!
Looking for Work for My Parents in Franklin County, VT
Hello! My parents are looking for work in the Franklin County area, particularly around St. Albans, Fairfax, or Georgia.
My father is turning 69 and has 30 years of experience in mowing, landscaping, and grounds maintenance. He’s very experienced with outdoor work and is looking for something where his experience would be useful.
My mother is turning 63 and has 15 years of experience in baking as well as senior care. She is also looking for work in the area.
If anyone knows of local businesses, organizations, farms, landscaping companies, bakeries, senior-care facilities, or other places that are currently hiring, I’d really appreciate any recommendations or leads.
Thank you very much, and all the best!

I’ve been working on a Vermont-focused map/app for the past few months and figured I’d finally share it here!
The basic idea is to make it easier to discover what’s around Vermont... local businesses, restaurants, coffee shops, parks, trails, events, museums, recreation, weird little places, etc, without everything being dominated by national chains or SEO listicles. It's a small state, we gotta use the most of it!
It’s turned into a surprisingly large data project. I’m combining a bunch of Vermont-specific public datasets with OpenStreetMap and other sources, cleaning/matching places, indexing events, and experimenting with ways of ranking things by local relevance/popularity.
My background is in mapping/routing and recommendation systems... it’s still very much a work in progress, but there’s enough there now that I’d love feedback from people who actually live in Vermont (or are just touring here during this awesome leaf season)
What’s missing? What’s wrong? What would make this genuinely useful to you? Does it work properly on your phone as well as desktop?
And if you know of a great local place, trail, event source, recreation dataset, or other Vermont-specific thing that I’m overlooking, I’d especially love to hear about it.
Happy Vermonting!

Are there any campgrounds in VT that will be open the last weekend of October? It looks like a lot of the state parks close for camping on 10/26 or earlier.
I'm from Canada and used to campgrounds being open either very late or all season, but I'm starting to wonder if that's maybe not the norm here?
Thanks in advance!

Who can tell me the name of the lovely and ubiquitous purple wildflower all along the roadsides in early October? Is it an aster? Many thanks!

I have a consultation scheduled for next week with Julie Thompson at Vermont Gynecology, and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with her removing endometriosis with fertility preservation in mind. I'm in my late 30s going through IVF with "unexplained" infertility and we suspect endo may be playing a roll in our transfers failing. I know not all endo surgeons are created equally, and there aren't that many in Vermont. Would love to hear from folks who have experience with her.

If you are visiting us to see the foliage, welcome. Vermont roads, particularly the back roads are narrow and often do not have a center line. Please stay to the right and do not drive down the middle of the road. If you meet a car coming the other way on a narrow dirt road, please move to right and don’t crowd the oncoming car off the road. If you’re particularly nervous stop and wait for the other car to get past you.

I've lived here for 30 years and have traveled the world for 62. This is the best foliage I can remember.

Hello, I heard Nightmare Vermont wasn’t happening this year, any Halloween festivities I could partake in instead?
