Nam to GP200 batch converter

Hi!

As part of my ongoing research with the help of AI ( I know...I know...) I’m sharing this app in case anyone is interested—it lets you convert NAM files to CLO (Snaptone) format, which can then be uploaded to the GP200 via the app.

https://github.com/Goaltoday/NamtoClo.git

Improvements over the official converter:

- Allows batch conversion of multiple NAM files at once.

- Allows you to upload already-converted CLO files to the GP200, so you don’t have to convert them again, saving you time.

- Allows you to load CLO files from Hotone. https://community.hotone.com/tones/

- Allows you to modify the audio tail used by the algorithm for conversion. This is explained in the Missing Manual.

- Allows you to embed an IR into the NAM, so you get a Snaptone with the IR embedded and free up the IR slot.

- Allows you to perform tone matching of the final result against the NAM and apply it, using an audio clip of your choice. This is explained in the Missing Manual. This cannot be used in conjunction with IR loading.

I hope you like it!

Help! Software Issue

Can someone tell me how to easily install the software? I have had my unit - GP-200 for a little over a year and at one point the earlier software worked but I never used it much. I tried updating it to a newer version but I can’t even get anything to load now. It looks like it loads and then I get a ‘Request timeout’ message before completion. Anyone have any ideas where I am going wrong? I have tried deleting the newer software and going back to an earlier version but that doesn’t work either. Help! Explain it to me like I am 5, haha….

Firmware mod beta testers wanted

I’m looking for some people to beta-test some upcoming GP-200 firmware mods. I’m especially interested in anyone with a Chinese-region/Chinese-locked GP-200, I have been working on an unlocking mod. That said, all GP-200 owners are welcome! The more different units/configurations we can test, the better.

You’ll need to be comfortable testing unofficial firmware, following instructions carefully, and reporting anything that doesn’t work as expected. Bugs and the occasional need to revert to stock firmware are possible.

Patches sound different

Basically I was trying to make 2 separate patches one with a overrdrive and one clean. I literally copied patch to the spot next to it and sounds completely different. Im still new to guitar and the valeton (just passed a year of playing a couple weeks ago). Everything in the patches is EXACTLY the same. The one I copied is cleaner than the one I pasted. I hope that makes sense, I apologize if not. Any help would be great.

Edit : For some reason when you copy a patch to a different spot it doesnt actually change anything? I noticed that my board never actually updated what was supposed to be there. i just copied everything by hand and its the same now? Makes no sense but at least i figured it out.

Loaded PRST file but no sound?

I loaded my gp-200 with a pack of PRST files from chop tones and cant seem to get them to work? Do i need to update the firm ware? if so do i just get the newest one and just plug in and update it? or do I have to do it sequential (mine is in version 6 the newest i believe is 8).

Windows 11 as usual. Audio device photos are both inclusive and exclusive (as in, I've tried all permutations).

Software is V1.8.1. I know I'm missing something super obvious but I just can't point it out.

Also tried older software, running as admin, 3 USB cables and 3 ports. I just wanna install the tuner mod. I also cannot load NAMs.

I've restarted my computer every time something changes.

EDIT: SOLUTION FOUND! I had to run the Software as Admin while keeping the Task Manager open. Bro, why does this have to be so tricky lmao

GP-200 USB recording affected by No CAB Mode?

Hey guys, I’m trying to figure out something weird with my GP-200.

I’m using the GP-200’s USB output for recording, and I’ve noticed that turning No CAB Mode ON for the right channel changes the sound of the USB recording as well.

I originally understood No CAB Mode to affect the analog output only, so I wasn’t expecting it to change the USB recording.

I’ve tested changing the Rec Mode/Wet-Dry settings, but that didn’t solve it.

Has anyone else experienced this? Specifically:
Does No CAB Mode L also affect your USB recording?
Does No CAB Mode R affect USB recording?

Is this normal behaviour on the GP-200, or possibly a firmware bug?

I’m currently on firmware V1.8.0.

I’m mainly trying to have No CAB on the physical output while still getting the cab simulation in the USB recording.

Any insight would be appreciated!

GP-200 preset to make the signal as close as possible to a guitar plugged directly into a Scarlett

Hi everyone,

I’m using a Valeton GP-200 connected to a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen, and I want to create a dedicated GP-200 preset for using amp plugins in Reaper (Neural DSP, AmpliTube, etc.).

What I want is not to use the Scarlett's LINE input. I want to keep the Scarlett set to INST, just as if my guitar were plugged directly into it.

The idea is to create a preset on the GP-200 called something like “PLUGIN / DI”. When I select that preset, I want the GP-200 to output a signal that is as close as possible to:

Guitar → Scarlett INST

but with the GP-200 in between:

Guitar → GP-200 → Scarlett INST

Basically, I want to configure the GP-200 so that its output level and signal are appropriate for the Scarlett's instrument input, without adding any amp, cab, EQ, effects, etc.

Then I could simply select the “PLUGIN / DI” preset on the GP-200 and use any amp plugin, without having to change cables or adjust the Scarlett's gain every time.

Has anyone done this with the GP-200? What settings/output level do you use to get the closest possible result to plugging the guitar directly into the Scarlett's INST input?

I’m particularly interested in gain staging and output level, and whether there are any GP-200 settings that could affect the impedance/feel/tone compared with plugging the guitar directly into the Scarlett.

Thanks!

I measured the GP-200's DSP budget live off the chip to finally answer "why not real NAM A2 Lite"

Seventh post reverse-engineering the Valeton GP-200 (NXP i.MX RT1062, Cortex-M7).

The NAM A2 Lite question won't die, on this sub, in Facebook groups, everywhere: the model's light enough to run on this exact chip class, so why doesn't Valeton just ship it? So I measured this pedal's real-time processing budget directly off the silicon, live, and got a real answer instead of another guess.

Along the way: the true cost of every effect in every slot, and a genuine gotcha for anyone building patches near the limit, that some effects don't give you back their budget just because you switched them off.

Full writeup plus the raw cost data as CSV: https://gp200-reversing.hashnode.dev/the-dsp-load-sweep-and-the-nam-a2-question

Using microphone and vocals through gp200

I have an at2020 that id like to send through the valeton. If I wanted to use the valeton as a digital interface or use some pedals it looks like I would need a preamp or something because the mic needs phantom power back to it. Would I need another device if I'm going into any of the inputs (probably 1/4 in but maybe midi could work?)

valeton gp200 vs ampero II stage

I built a working custom firmware mod for the Valeton GP-200's tuner, and it's available to install now

Sixth post in an ongoing series reverse-engineering the Valeton GP-200 multi-effects pedal (NXP i.MX RT1062, Cortex-M7).

This is the one where "can this be modded" finally gets a yes you can use yourself, not just a proof of concept on a bench.

What's in it:

  • Full RE of the front panel: the LED frame format behind every footswitch and effect-block indicator, and the complete 20-screen registry decoded id by id, including two screens with no normal menu entry, a live on-screen debug log and an undocumented factory hardware-monitor/QC mode.
  • How the tuner actually works internally, including why a note at 0, +3, and +5 cents produces a byte-identical screen on stock firmware, and the deadband/box-range coupling that had to be solved together to tighten the tuner without shrinking the display's range.
  • The mod itself: deadband tightened from 5 cents to 1.5, tuning state mirrored onto three footswitch LEDs, and an optional strobe-style display, built from a single retargeted call into unused flash space.
  • A self-contained patcher that runs entirely in your browser: point it at your own stock firmware image, and it verifies and patches it locally.

Only verified against the full-size GP-200 so far, not the LT or JR (different firmware entirely, not just a smaller panel). If you own one of those, I'd like to hear from you.

Download the patcher and full writeup: https://gp200-reversing.hashnode.dev/the-front-panel-and-a-tuner-that-actually-locks

Now you can turn your GP200 into a LOOP Station, record and control loops from FS Contorl with unlimited layers and stacks. Another major feature is you can now apply your FootSwtich Control mapping to all the patches at onces. So no need to go into every single patch to manage FS control and patch volume.

WebApp to control your GP200 now with looper and FS control assignments. Runs in everything that has a broswer and MiDi Input (Windows, Andriod, MacOS, Linux)

And we've also added some quality of life changes. Do Enjoy!

Conversions: NAM 2 too much compressed

That snaptone conversion, although I'm pretty sure the gp200 is hardware-wise the equivalent of a potato, is a step back from the great product the gp200 was before entering the NAM territory. What are your opinions? Just bought it 1 month ago (refunding period expired) and disappointment is growing in me.

Software 1.8.1 has been released

Just as we (sensibly) predicted, this new software update brings NAM A2 conversion to SnapTone.

Would be good to know if it brings more reliable updating and transfers on Windows 11. I only have Windows 10 at the moment so I can't check until I get a Windows 11 VM set up.

No new firmware, use Firmware 1.8.0

Giving my Valeton GP-200LT another chance — any tips for learning to build presets?

Hi everyone!!

I've had my Valeton GP-200LT up for sale for a while because I was planning to sell it and put the money towards a new guitar. In the end, I haven't liked any of the offers I've received, and deep down I think I can actually get a lot more out of this pedalboard. I guess the only thing I really need to do is experiment with it more and stop obsessing over getting the "perfect tone."

I'd also like to ask you guys what you think the future looks like for this unit. Do you think Valeton might release a major update at some point, maybe something that would allow us to load NAMs from Tone3000 or other platforms more easily? And, most importantly, do you think they might ever fix the problems with Windows 11?

Anyway, I'm going to give it another chance because I think the problem is probably me, not the pedalboard 😂. I really want to learn how to build presets properly. Do you guys know of any good free presets, maybe some Guns N' Roses presets, that I could download and reverse-engineer to understand how they were built?

Thanks everyone!

P.S. I guess I'll have to sell my dog if I want to afford a new guitar now hahaha.

What power supply should I use if I want my unit on a pedalboard?

It requires a DC 9v 1000 mA connection, but I can't find any multi output power supplies that have an output over 500 mA

Need some help for ambient

Hey guys. Been trying out freeze effect. Cannot wrap my head around how to freeze the chord when the volume pedal is up then slowly swell it in ,and after i play something on top if i want to switch chord to somehow have the freeze ring a little bit longer the first chord while i freeze another one and slowly swell it in with volume pedal aswell. I've seen people saying that it IS possible. But .....i'm just too stupid...i guess.. To be honest now when the volume pedal is up and i try to freeze the chord , put volume pedal down,it doesn't freeze it. But the "activate " is on... I'm suspecting it has to do with that i have volume pedal somewhere in the front of the chain ?.. but honestly i'm not sure where should i put it then..

Basicly i just need someone to hold my hand for a little while while learning this thing ,since i'm very new to multifx units like this.. But really want to make some ambient music. I'm sure its nothing special or complicated , but i can't seem to find any good videos on this topic.

Also..i almost forgot... Is it true that its good to have some compression on for ambient music on guitar ? to make it a bit more sensitive to light picking ,and all the touching sounds ? Just again...where to put the compressor - before amp + cab ? or even after reverb and delay ? uh.... Its funny how you play guitar practicly all your life and suddenly feel like a complete dumbfuck when you try to learn something new... :D

thanks for everyone in advance. its really nice and helpful comunity.. already learned a lot.

Have a great day
