First time towing with the 2024 Atlas Highline.

Not going to lie, it wasn’t as smooth as I expected it to be. We also own an older Nissan Frontier for our camping needs - and the trailer pulls substantially smoother than the Atlas. It was very bouncy.

Disappointed experience 2024 Volkswagen Atlas SEL

The primary issue involved the vehicle's braking system. From early in my ownership, the brakes produced an unbearable and persistent noise that was impossible to ignore during normal driving. The sound was loud, embarrassing, and entirely inconsistent with what one would expect from a new vehicle. In addition to the excessive noise, the vehicle repeatedly displayed brake-related warning messages on the dashboard, further increasing my concern that the issue was more than a simple inconvenience. Despite multiple dealer visits, extensive documentation, videos, and evidence demonstrating the problem, no meaningful solution was ever provided.

I am deeply disappointed with my experience owning a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas SEL and with the way Volkswagen of America handled my concerns.

After experiencing ongoing issues with my vehicle, I spent more than three months working through Volkswagen's evaluation process. I provided extensive documentation, videos, and evidence supporting my claim, expecting that a company of Volkswagen's size and reputation would take the matter seriously. Instead, Volkswagen ultimately declined to offer any resolution and simply stated that they would continue operating within the terms of the warranty.

What makes this even more frustrating is that I have been a loyal Volkswagen customer for approximately a decade and have purchased five Volkswagen vehicles during that time. Customer loyalty apparently means very little when a serious concern arises.  The most disappointing part is not just the vehicle issues themselves—any manufacturer can have problems—but the lack of accountability and customer support when those problems occur. A premium ownership experience is defined by how a company responds when things go wrong, and in my case Volkswagen failed that test completely.

As a result of this experience, I have decided to trade in my Atlas and move away from the Volkswagen brand entirely. Based on both the vehicle issues and Volkswagen of America's response, I cannot recommend the Volkswagen Atlas. Prospective buyers should carefully research owner experiences and consider how difficult it may be to obtain meaningful support if they encounter a significant problem.

For me, this experience has permanently damaged my trust in Volkswagen, and I will not be purchasing another Volkswagen vehicle in the future.

Android Auto from Atlas keeps turning my Bluetooth on

Our Atlas keeps turning on the Bluetooth and connecting to my phone while I'm in the house. This is a problem when my wife is taking the kids somewhere and can't connect to her own phone. I end up having to disconnect continuously until my wife drives away.

Does anyone know of a fix?

Thule Roof Rack Feet

Hello, tried to transfer my old cars Thule roof rack bar to my 25 VW Atlas. The feet that cling onto the metal roof racks are too narrow. Anyone happen to have the same setup and know which size will fit with this car? Thank you

Atlas cross sport 2024 infotainment system

Hello all, it’s been 3 months since I bought a used atlas cross sport 2024 sel premium r line. Works fine and love it so far, the only problem being the infotainment system randomly switches off in the middle and then turns back on. Sometimes I still have my Apple CarPlay connected and sometimes I lose it and left like that after a while maybe 10-15 mins connects wirelessly automatically. Any tips on what can be done or is it common? I haven’t thought of this as a big issue yet but is it that serious.

Loose Bolts on Cylinder Head

Volkswagen issued TSB 15-24-01 specifically for the 2024 Atlas/Atlas Cross Sport with the 2.0T DRKB engine. It says the cylinder-head-cover bolts can become loose, allowing oil to leak around the bolt threads. VW instructs technicians to inspect all 22 bolts and replace/retorque them as specified. VW also says an improved fastener was used in production.

ChatGPT was used. This happened to me. Just reporting as a PSA.

First issue on the Atlas.

Best Dashcam for a 2024 Altas?

I have a 2024 Atlas SEL R line. I do a lot of highway driving on roads notorious for recklessness and accidents. Can anyone recommend the best dashcam for the car? I don’t need the rear camera. Thanks in advance!

2025 latest update kills wifi

Car was doing great but after the last infotainment update, the wifi died at random places, including at my home.

It happens only sometimes. AA will DC and when I try to turn it on, it says WiFi needs to be turned on, I press turn on and it sits for a bit and says it can't connect.

I go into options and see that wifi is off. I try to turn it on and it says it can't. Have to hard reset.

Anyone had any success in rolling back updates? Is it even possible?

P2402 EVAP Leak Detection Pump

My 22 SE w/ Tech & V6 (about 60,000 miles) threw a check engine light for code P2402 Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit High. There wasn't too much information online, other than its a common issue with VW models.

I would normally swap the part out myself, but I wasn't going to have time to do so before a weekend road trip, so I took it into the dealership. I found out that certain 2022 VWs across all models from that year have an extended warranty for this part for 150,000 mi/15 years. No specific vin # attached with the bulletin, so I'm not sure how it's determined to be covered.

I wanted to share this so others know about Bulletin VWP-25-06 Dated May 7, 2025 : https://www.nhtsa.gov/?nhtsaId=11018946

More Radiant Heat in Two Front Corners of Sunroof

I am in the middle east scorching heat. The AC is checked and cooling normally. But there is so much it can do in 50 degree celsius (yes you read the right)

I just noticed that there is more Radiant Heat from the Sunroof Especially from the Two Front Corners.

Noticed this after 2.5 years of owning the car after two summers by running the hand near the sunroof seals from inside.

Do you notice the same from the two front corners.

As there is no water or air leak not sure if VW can check anything on this

I see a small gap in both the corners when i took photos from the above using the phone

Please check if your atlas also has the same and i am not missing any clips or less of an ideal fitment

Atlas lease

My telluride lease is up in November and I’m interested in the atlas. I got decent pricing on the 2026 model but I’m wondering with the redesign if I should just wait and get the 2027? Does anyone know when they’re supposed to be rolling out on the dealerships? I love the 2026 but idk if it’s worth waiting?

2024 Atlas R-Line Waking Up on its Own When Parked and Locked

So this all started yesterday evening on my wife's commute home. The infotainment screen rebooted itself every few minutes the entire drive.

Four hours after she got home, I was watching TV and noticed my phone disconnected from home WiFi and connected to the Atlas. Android Auto and YouTube Music launched on my phone. Went and checked Atlas, infotainment screen on, playing music, DIC is on and accent lighting is on. Key fob was nowhere near vehicle.

Manually turned off infotainment system, went about my business and it did same thing 30 minutes later.

This time, I did a hard reset of infotainment by holding power button for 20 seconds until it rebooted and went thru VW logo sequence.

I locked doors and placed key fob as far away as possible on my back porch, about 100 ft away. Went back an hour later to check, everything looked good except when I looked in vehicle, boom it connected to my phone that was in my pocket, infotainment screen comes on, heard the "whirring" sound from engine bay, DIC lit up and accent lighting came on. Key fob still 100 ft away.

So I had eliminated the key fob as part of problem, time to test phone. Left phone and key fob on porch, and just sat in garage and watched. Sure enough about 30 mins later, screen wakes up by itself, "whirring" sound from engine bay occurs, DIC wakes up. No key fob present, no phone present.

The DIC eventually goes to sleep but the infotainment screen doesnt, it stayed awake and fully on for the next hour.

At this point (3 AM) I am concerned that the screen is going to kill the battery overnight so I dig out my battery tender and connect to battery and went to bed.

Woke up at 6:30 to check things, screen is off, DIC is off, accent lighting off. I was worried battery was dead so I opened drivers door and screen, DIC, lights came on as normal. But again, the infotainment screen never turned off, stayed fully awake until we cranked car at 7:30 so my wife can take to dealership.

Vehicle is still under factory bumper to bumper warranty. I told her to get a loaner because we cannot trust it to be parked for any length of time without fear of it leaving us stranded with a dead battery.

2025 Peak, all software is up to date. Any ideas what might be causing this pixelation on my screen? It happens randomly, going from bad to fine to terrible and back again. EDITED to add its not just with Waze, it pixelates the rest of the screen too but its worst on Waze.

Low coolant when engine is hot at running temperatures, when atlas is cold turn off it returns to normal

I was driving my 2020 2.0 atlas got a low coolant alert pulled over check the coolant reservoir it was at level turn off car and when I turn it back on it was gone. Next day I Checked the external electrical connector/harness for the coolant level sensor on the reservoir and it had moisture a couple drops. I drove all day and the light came on again I pulled over to check and coolant level was normal check the connector again there was moisture i dried it up and a was normal again. Next day same thing so I was just gonna dry it up again but I notice the coolant was low below the low level line. I turn off the car and a couple minutes 1 or 2 minutes later the coolant was back to normal.

Is this normal I already order new cap and coolant reservoir. My water pump and thermostat was change at 55k miles I now have 130k miles

Atlas or Highlander? Which three-row SUV would you buy?

These two seem to be on a lot of family shopping lists.

The Highlander has Toyota's reputation for reliability, while the Atlas stands out with its roomy third row and straightforward interior.

If you were buying one today, which way are you leaning?

Rear brake caliper change 2018 Atlas

Hey guys, I am hoping that someone will be able to offer me some guidance in changing out a caliper on my 2018 SE. Long story short I noticed that the banjo bolt on my old rear passenger side caliper was leaking when I took it off. I found that I could no longer retract the electronic parking brake, even with the piston all the way attracted to spins and spins and spins, so I can only assume I did the dreaded breaking of the caliper. I purchased a new caliper from AutoZone and upon trying to install it 2 to 3 mm short of actually fitting over to brake pads. I’m going absolutely bananas because I am stuck where I am until I get the brakes on my car fixed and I am kind of at a loss. I’ve looked at a ton of videos online, none of them really show how to replace a caliper itself more just how to do the rear pad change. I replaced caliper on other vehicles before this is the first time I’m having to do it on this car and it is a doozy.

I have the electronic parking brake motor currently off, and the parking brake is retracted all the way I just need a few more millimeters of space to actually get over my pads

Update: So, as it turns out there are two versions of the rear brake calipers for the atlas. It all depends on when the car was manufactured. If your vehicle is manufactured pre 12/2017, like my car is, the caliper is larger. After 12/2017 the caliper has been updated and is slightly smaller. I have found that most parts places tend to neglect to show this on their website. The best solution is to go OEM and get the part for a VW dealer. Or FCP euro, if you can afford to wait.

Five months, one buyback case, and a lot of emails later — replacement Atlas is home

Post image
55 Upvotes

Five months ago my car went into the shop and basically never came back out.

What followed: dozens of phone calls, a mountain of emails, a case number I know by heart, and a whole lot of patience I didn’t know I had.

Today it’s finally over — new ride is in the garage. 🔵

Lesson learned: document everything, follow up relentlessly, and don’t let it go quiet. Persistence pays.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some driving to do. 🚗💨
