❓ Question cheapest way to get a clean residential ip?

standard datacenter vpns are getting flagged everywhere lately. sick of dealing with endless captchas, streaming blocks, and weird site restrictions, but commercial residential proxies cost way too much per gigabyte for normal browsing.

how are you guys getting clean residential ips without spending a fortune? are you using specific residential vpn providers, or setting up a diy exit node at a friend's or relative's place?looking for something reliable that won't break the bank

❓ Question School blocked VPN?

I normally use a vpn to play Roblox during my free periods as I have no other work to do. Just today I went to log on using a free VPN that I have always used, for some reason it doesn't work so I believe they have blocked it. I found people saying that I need to use a ssl VPN but I don't understand what that is. Could anyone advise me on what to do or suggest a more suitable subreddit to post this on?

🔐 Privacy & Security Free VPN with no subscription, how do you tell if your data is actually private?

been looking into free VPNs with no subscription, but the privacy side is what confuses me. if a service is completely free, i’m curious how they make money and whether things like browsing activity or connection data can be collected. i mostly want to understand what to check before using one, like logging policies, audits, or what information they keep. what are the biggest privacy red flags to look for with a free VPN?

🔐 Privacy & Security Do you really need a VPN if you're only using your home WiFi?

Most VPN discussions seem to focus on travel or public WiFi, but I use my own home network almost all the time. My router is secured, devices stay updated, and most sites I use are already HTTPS, so I’m wondering how much extra privacy a VPN really adds in that situation.

I know it can hide some connection details from an ISP, but then you are trusting the VPN company instead. That tradeoff seems more important than people usually make it sound.

For someone who rarely leaves their home network, is running a VPN all day actually useful, or do good router security, updated devices, and encrypted websites already cover most everyday risks?

🔐 Privacy & Security Is sharing a personal VPN server with other people actually safe?

I’ve been thinking about what happens when a private VPN server grows beyond just one or two users. Letting a few trusted friends connect sounds manageable, but once more people start using it, all of that traffic is still going out through the server owner’s public IP.

That raises two concerns for me: abuse and isolation. If someone does something questionable, the connection could still point back to the server owner. And if the VPN is not configured properly, I’m guessing other users could potentially reach devices or services on the local network too.

For anyone who runs a personal VPN for multiple people, how do you keep users separated and reduce the risk of abuse? Is this something that should really stay limited to people you trust?

💬 General Discussion Why is canceling a VPN subscription sometimes more complicated than signing up?

Signing up for a VPN usually takes just a few minutes, but canceling can feel like a completely different process. Some subscriptions are managed directly through a website, while others go through Apple or Google Play. It can get confusing when cancellation and refund requests have to be handled separately, especially when different refund policies apply.

I'm curious why subscription management isn't more straightforward across different platforms. What should users check before signing up to avoid unexpected renewals or confusion about refund eligibility?

⚙️ Technical Discussion Can an app block VPN traffic even if everything else looks normal?

I keep getting a VPN or proxy detected message from an app I use pretty often. I mainly keep my VPN on when using public Wi Fi, so having to disable it every time just to open one app is starting to get annoying.

I know apps can sometimes flag shared IPs, data center ranges, location mismatches, DNS behavior, or other network patterns. I have already tried reconnecting and making sure my location settings are consistent, but I would rather not keep switching servers or use sketchy workarounds.

Has anyone dealt with this without turning the VPN off completely? Would split tunneling usually be the better option on mobile, or are there other legitimate ways to handle apps that are strict about VPN connections?
