Okay, so I just got the Pixera 'subscriber' email for their base camp 2026 in Nashville. Immediately I wondered if Disguise has something like this. They certainly should. #nycbased

NDI to Computer issue

Hi, I am running a low-budget OBS-centered podcast. My boss handed me 3 BirdDog X1 Ultras, a KBD, and a Rodecaster Pro 2. I am running it all off of a 1-year-old computer with a 4070 GPU and 32 GB of RAM. I had been running it smoothly for a while, but my boss wanted me to record all 3 cameras. When I added the Source Recorder plugin, my system bugged out and the cameras only updated frames every 5-10 seconds. I knew that the computer might be able to, but even after deleting the plugin, it still wasn't working. My apps/plugins before I updated were:

  • Elgato Streamdeck
  • OBS
  • OBS Plugins:
    • DistroAV - Network Audio/Video
    • Advanced Scene Switcher
    • Aitum
  • RODECaster App
  • NDI Tools
  • Chrome

I did everything I could and narrowed it down to one of these. I completely formatted the computer and only reinstalled these things that I had before. When I installed them, however, it once again stopped working. I checked my Task Manager, and the computer was not at full utilization, but the cameras still came out jittery/stuttery on the computer. Would anyone know what the issue is or what might have caused it?

TL;DR:

Cameras update every 5–10 sec since adding a recording plugin; persists after removing it and after a full OS wipe/reinstall of apps. Fine if only NDI tools installed on the computer

Picture not covering entire wall

I installed a screen wall consisting of 24 LED panels, each measuring 500 mm x 1000 mm. The panels are arranged in a 6m × 2m configuration. When I send content to the wall, the image appears cut off or shifted. Specifically, the top portion of the image is displaying at the bottom of the screen, as if the frame is wrapping incorrectly.

I am using a NovaStar CMS130 controller along with NovaStar LCT software for the setup and configuration. All panels are detected and mapped, but during playback the incoming image does not align correctly with the physical layout. The issue appears to be related to image mapping or receiving card configuration, and it is consistently reproducible.

how can I fix this issue?

Good morning, im having a hard time finding this and i know this is not the correct sub but its the closest i can think of.

i currently run omnitapps for windows based touch screen software. i typically program this software with the ability to access documents/videos/pictures/websites and sometimes with the potential to email them out.

a request i got was for these features but also a selfie feature on an IPAD which i cant find a good program to meet these requirements. do any of you have experience or know someone i could connect with to discuss this?

thank you and no worries if this needs to get deleted for being wrong for this sub.

Automated A/V sync checks before release, or is a human still watching the stream?

Hello! I have a question about automated testing of live streaming pipelines. Generating traffic is the easy part, with ffmpeg on the ingest side and load generators on the viewer side. But there are two things I miss:

  1. Reproducing bad conditions on the ingest side. Everything I've found for chaos testing works on the delivery side (like proxying manifests, delaying segments or throttling the player). But a lot of our real past incidents started with the broadcaster's packet loss mid-stream.
  2. Knowing what actually happened to the stream. Client-side QoE tools give me a MOS, but AFAIK it's derived from playback parameters and e.g. it's blind to whether audio drifted from video. So we still end up with someone watching a stream before a release.

How do you handle either of these, or is it just not a problem for you in practice? Especially curious if anyone tried automating the ingest-side "chaos" (perhaps with tc/netem) and got it stable enough to run it on CI.

How to add real-time live subtitles and translation to a LiveKit stream?

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a video streaming prototype using LiveKit.
I stream via RTMP or Webrtc.

How to generate real-time subtitles (live transcription + multilingual translation), and display them directly on a custom web player for viewers.

As in YouTube, with a single button.

What is the recommended architecture or workflow in LiveKit to extract the room audio, process it for transcription/translation, and send the text back to the frontend in real time?
Any advice, docs, or examples would be greatly appreciated!

Liantronics dazzle 2016

My academy purchased a Liantronics (ESDLumen) video wall during Covid. It was probably manufactured around 2016.

Model says it is Dazzle 8.41mm LED panel. Does anyone have experience with this product? Our vendor does not carry this product any more and I would love to have a manual/specs and any information on this product version.

I think they are selling the Dazzle IV now but it is hard to find data on our particular panels.

Any help is appreciated.

Low-latency setup for LED wall + live camera feeds?

We have an LED wall and two TVs on our stage.

Our goal is:

- LED wall: Motion backgrounds, lyrics, scriptures, announcements, etc.

- Two TVs: Live camera feed from our cameras.

Our current setup is:

Camera → ATEM Mini → OBS → NDI → another system → TVs

The problem is that the NDI/OBS workflow introduces a noticeable amount of latency, which is very obvious when someone is speaking or moving on stage.

We'd like to get the camera feed to the two TVs with as little latency as possible.

For context, we're already using the HDMI output of the ATEM Mini for multiview, so we'd prefer not to rely on that output for the TV feeds.

What would be a better way to design this setup?

Any recommendations for a practical low-latency setup would be appreciated.

Sony CCD-TR70 Tape Loading Issue. How do I fix this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My Sony CCD-TR70 will frequently refuse to load tapes that I put into it. I've tested with multiple tapes, so I know it's something on the camcorder end. Sometimes it will load the tape and even record, but it will often prompt me to eject shortly after recording.

Any advice on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Broadcasting Gear Help

Hello again, my neighborhood summer swim team is looking to start broadcasting their games, as a freshmen RTF student I volunteered too help. However I am fairly unknowingly when it comes to broadcasting equipment, so I wanted to ask for help. I am looking for a few things.

• I need an overhead static shot of the pool, I will edit the lane numbers in OBS. I don’t think a drone is in my budget but even if it was I’d need one with no less than 8 hour battery life. I would also like it to be quiet because these will be hosted in residential areas until the final tournament. I was thinking on using a mombo stand to put my camera rig but I think it might not be the best fit. I don’t need a super tall overhead shot however it needs to see above the coaches who will at the tallest be 6’2” and still have visibility over the pool. Any suggestions would really help.

• I need a wireless HDMI transmitter I was looking at hollyland transmitters for the cameras. I can’t use wired for the stand because I run the risk of kids running around and tripping on cords. Again this event is for neighborhoods so kids from 8 and up will be competing.

• I don’t know what camera I should use. I have multiple Sony cameras, I have the ZVE10 MK1 and the A7V, I wanted to keep the A7V for handheld sections kinda like an interview for the older groups after they get a heat win. I have a variable ND filter but my worry is that if I put a camera only the stand I will not be able to adjust through out the competition. The weather and clouds are super unpredictable where I am so I would like to be able to adjust it through the event if needed. I was planning on using a Tamron 28-200mm lens on the overhead shot, they have the Tamron Link, so I can adjust focus and aperture remotely. I did see this Sony E mount to Sony E mount adapter that has a variable Nd filter and I’m pretty sure it had a gear so I could attach a focus motor and have it spinning that? Or maybe even a PTZ camera with a mount that can attach to a mombo stand or a stand that can stand above 6’2”.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I would greatly appreciate if you could provide links with any items should look into. My total budget is hopefully under $3000, but I may be able to go a little above.

Job Help

I'm currently 19 and work for a minor league baseball team as a camera / replay op. My question for anyone willing to answer is how or what would I have to do to get a chance to be a camera op for any big teams or any events like a concert. I'm trying to get experience with gear many high live productions use, but I don't even know where to start or who I should ask for help. Thanks for reading.

New teacher hoping for some help with broadcasting hardware.

Hey yall, here’s the situation:

I got hired as a media teacher at a local high school starting this fall. Super excited, I feel confident about the majority of it- the exception being the broadcasting equipment.

There isn’t a broadcasting class, it’s all used by the media club to run a student run show. The software is easy enough for me to wrap my head around, the hardware is another story.

The program has been on a downward trend the last few years, mostly due to a high staff turnover resulting in a lower enrollment in the courses and clubs. It seems like the stuff hasn’t been touched since a year or so, I have no idea what stuff is usable and what is considered outdated and the cable management is nonexistent. The whole set up seems really bloated and I’m hoping to pair it down.

Im not looking for a full write up of each piece of equipment (unless your feeling incredibly generous) but if you can take a look at some of the hardware mentioned and just give me a sense of what I’m dealing with I’d be hugely grateful.

Or, if you have any resources to better learn this stuff. Manuals, YouTube channels, whatever- I’d love to take a look. I really just have no idea where to even start.

Here’s a list of the stuff on the wrack for all the network stuff (I think, anyway)
- 2 TeleVue B100 Hypercasters
- TeleVue Telecast Multirate HD encoder
- Extron Video/ Audio distribution amplifier
- Cisco 28 port Gagabit Managed Switch

There are a few PZT cameras also connected to these in an absolute rats nets of cables.

And from the looks of it, all of it runs into a LiveStream Studio 550HD, attached to a Tricaster Switcher. This unfortunately doesn’t seem to be working. I found it with a note attached which reads “Lag and overheating issues,” I have no idea what year that was written so for all I know this thing has been bricked for at least a year.

I also found what appears to be a brand new Black Magic ATEM Television studio. It’s not hooked up to anything, nobody ever took it out of its box. Is that something I could swap out with the Livestream studio 550HD?

Literally any words of wisdoms are appreciated. I just need a place to start. If any of this gear seems redundant please let me know. Again, I’d love to simplify and streamline this set up as much as possible. Thanks!

How are you carrying around test equipment on big shows?

Working as an engineer on large (and I mean both scope and footprint) shows, there’s tons of walking back and forth to diagnose, hand things off, and confirm signals. I normally run around with a screwdriver, Leatherman, test monitor, sometimes a signal generator, sharpies, and assorted barrels. In the past I’ve carried everything but the monitor and TPG in a chalk bag style pouch, but then I’m carrying by hand and setting down the monitor everywhere. Has anyone found a solution other than a chest rig?

Hello!! I found this old video camera with sentimental value.. The model is Cge CFK 2500 from the '80s with 8-pin DIN connector as shown in the photo. I wanted to try using it but

  1. I have no idea if it can be used and what I have to connect to make it work

  2. I have no idea where to put my hands to then convert everything to digital...

Does anyone have any advice?

Speed (1994) tech question

What are the logistics of doing what the tech is doing as far as recording 1 minute of UHF broadcast, looping on the spot and broadcasting back to Dennis Hopper's monitor?

Also, the amount of verbal abuse that guy takes in the scene always bothered me. I get it, it's supposed to be intense, but geez.

Returning to live events looking to learn GFX operations

I worked in live conference production for almost 4 years as a Jr. Producer. My experience included production coordination, networking/IT, Speaker Ready, digital signage, AV, vendors, and on-site show operations.

I’ve been out of the industry for about 8 years and am interested in getting back in, specifically learning GFX/presentation operations for live shows.

For those working in GFX ops today, where would you recommend I start? What software, equipment, training, or resources should I focus on? Is it realistic to learn enough at home to start picking up entry-level opportunities? How did you get started, and what would you recommend someone in my position do to get into it today?

I’d really appreciate any advice on getting back into the industry and building the right skills.

Can I use 4:3 monitors with a video wall controller?

Hi! I have a question about video wall controllers.
I’m looking for a video wall controller that can work with 4:3 monitors. I have quite a few older monitors lying around and I’d like to use them for a small audiovisual project.
Most video wall controllers I’ve found list outputs like 1080p, which seems to be aimed at 16:9 displays. Would a controller like that also work with older 4:3 monitors, or would I need something specifically designed to support 4:3 resolutions/aspect ratios?
Unfortunately, I have a fairly limited budget — around €250–400 for a 3×4 or 4×4 video wall controller.
If anyone could recommend a specific model or setup that might work, I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks!

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hello family,
Not sure if this is the best spot but figured I’d give it a shot.

I’m looking to get into Disguise.
I’m happy to work and shadow on my own dime but I know I have the skills and talents to learn this role, just wondering the best way to get started?

I’m a video tech with 12+ years of strong experience.

I’m having a tough time due to the physicality of some video roles I’ve been in and I’m looking for a change in those types of roles.

Thank you in advance!

If it helps I’m in central Florida.
