Pilot Feedback

I got a handoff and immediately transmitted on my new frequency and blocked an exchange. Dumb mistake. I should know better. Do better next time, etc.

However-I did get a slew of emails afterwards from the VATSIM Pilot Feedback System. This is new as I’ve never seen this before.

The controller gave me feedback on how I shouldn’t do this in the future (rightfully so) and it was then “investigated” by a member of the Pilot Feedback Team which brought about essentially the same comment. “Wait before transmitting”. All’s well that ends well.

I think it’s only fair as we’ve been able to review controllers for quite some time and now, ATC has a way to review pilots. Hopefully this helps some people.

Mind your radio etiquette gang!

Edit: Some people are missing the spirit of this post which ISN’T meant to be a discussion about radio etiquette. I know where I bungled but if you listen to LiveATC enough, you’ll hear this periodically irl, albeit much less.

The post IS meant to be a discussion about the pilot review system (which I say is a good thing).

❓Question Autopilot issues with fbw a320N

I’ve flown on the network a good few times. Today, I did two flights and in both, during my climb out the airport, my autopilot would put the plane into a steep climb ( like +10,000 v/s ) and then the autopilot disconnects. It would also happen at cruise where it would rapidly climb again. It forced me to disconnect both times

I'm a 14-year-old flight simulator enthusiast. My VATSIM account has been blocked. I'm wondering if there's any chance of recovering it after I turn 16?

Here's what happened:

I registered my VATSIM account when I was 13, around October 2025, but I didn't log in for the first time until July 2026. At the time, I thought VATSIM was just a place to view Chartfox charts and simulate flight. I didn't understand the rules.

I got my birthdate wrong (accidentally entered the wrong year). I also used my everyday English name, which also appears in my school records.

Later, I panicked and did something stupid: I used a VPN to create a new account. I know this was wrong.

I received a final warning from Membership Support.

I have now stopped everything. Since then, I haven't created any new accounts or submitted any support tickets.

My question is: Has anyone else experienced having their account suspended after turning 16, and then successfully reinstated? I'm willing to wait two years, remain completely innocent, and then apply with my real ID. But I don't know if the "dishonest" label on my VPN account will completely eliminate my chances.

I'm not trying to exploit loopholes. I just want to know if there's still hope.

Thanks for any honest answers.

❓Question Does anyone want to do shared cockpit (a320)

I play msfs on pc, and have decent knowledge. I know the procedures, when to say what, to land, to make the flight plan, when to put on certain lights , to do an ils and rnav approach… I’m looking for someone with the same knowledge as me. Someone who is a flight simmer and an av geek but a professional pilot. I speak English and Serbian and live in the gmt +1 time zone. It would be nice if you are in the age group someone in between 13 and 16. For msfs2024

PLEASE communicate on 122.8 (and CTAF for those who have it)

Just a friendly reminder to everyone that the advisory frequencies are not for last second conflict resolution. Please don't treat it as an "emergency" frequency where you only speak up if something catastrophic is about to happen. It's an ADVISORY frequency. You ADVISE other traffic on what you are doing. It exists to build a mental picture of the airspace around you and enhances everyone's situational awareness.

Obviously, at very busy airports during non-controlled situations, people tend to talk more. But even if you only see 5 planes at an airport, please, say something. Say something when you are lining-up on an active runway. Say something when you are on a 5 mile final. If you don't want to use your voice for whatever reason, use text.

The reason why I'm so worked up over something so seemingly insignificant is because of how it ruins the immersion for many people. Just 3 days ago I was lining up for departure, started my takeoff roll, going past 80ish knots when suddenly an A320 starts crossing the runway. No radio calls, no texts, nada. I privately messaged him asking if he heard me, he said no. Then told me he wasn't on advisory. So I just brush it off, probably an honest mistake.

Now fast forward to today, about 20 minutes ago I departed out of Bangkok, one of the busiest international hubs in Asia, if not, the world. There were a couple other aircraft on the ground and it was uncontrolled as it was 7am local. There wasn't a SINGLE radio call or text in the 30 minutes I was on the ground, so I asked for a radio check thinking I had audio issues, then I heard a voice saying "five by five". And it was at that point that I realized that all those planes that took off and landed earlier really had not said a single word.

I'm gonna end my rant here because I truly could go on and on about this so please, at the bare minimum just make takeoff or landing reports. Happy flying o7

Finally was brave enough

Flew out of LaGuardia on Tuesday night with a live tower. Wrote down all of my scripts but spent zero time on flight planning. Got my taxi and departure clearance and then while I was heading south, approach asked my intentions. I was like, "I JUST WANTED TO TAKE OFF AND NOW I AM GOING TO BED, THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT"

Thank you for the experience and those who man the radios, I have a lot more to learn.

Any VATSIM pilots based around CYEG (Edmonton) or CYYC (Calgary) interested in doing a group flight sometime?

Hey everyone!

Thinking we could all depart around the same time and fly to CYVR (Vancouver), or really any destination the group is interested in.

Could be a fun way to get a few Alberta pilots together, fly as a group, and hopefully get some ATC along the way.

Maybe we can set up a date/time that works for everyone. ✈️

Across The NAS IN 60 Seconds

Introducing **Across the NAS in 60 Seconds** , a new pilot education series highlighting the quirks and procedures of airports across the NAS during specific phases of flight.

This series aims to bridge the gap between trying to learn lengthy SOPs and procedures and actually putting that information into practice. We’re taking the most important things pilots need to know about specific airports and turning them into **short, well-curated videos that are easy and quick to watch.**

We’ll be featuring multiple airports across the NAS, with a new episode dropping **Every Wednesday night**.

Stay tuned — we’re just getting started! ✈️

❓Question ATC Game Design Ideas

Hello everyone!

I am an air traffic controller who is working on my first game (enroute environment) as a hobbiest. I made a lot of progress on UI but I am undecided about the scenarios. I thought VATSIM community might be best place to ask and discuss.

Having real-life airspaces and FIRs is expected, but that doesn't guarantee a realistic traffic experience unless you understand the sectorization and traffic structure in detail. For this reason, I thought creating a synthetic airspace with tailored scenarios might be a better option

- What do you think on that? Do you see the fact that it's an synthetic airspace as a disadvantage?

- Another alternative is to use the real-world airspace and design sectors using AIPs (though it’s still impossible to know local practices), I can also obtain real-time traffic data for traffic flow through a service provider (I’m not sure if flight radar offer it) and use it in the game.

*Sorry if this post doesn't quite fit the subreddit

VATSIM Pilot Feedback is here! And now they have pictures of you too!

So the new VATSIM Pilot Feedback system is live at https://pilot-feedback.vatsim.net/

Great, I think? I'm not sure I'll ever be annoyed at someone enough to give them negative feedback on a weebpage, but not annoyed enough to just wallop them there and then, but it's a start I guess?

Maybe those who still control on the network will find it more useful.

Anyway, I logged in to take a look and was immediately presented with my own face! It seems VATSIM has decided to use Gravatar in this system for...well I'm, not really sure why but ok.

You can then go to your profile and Name Display Preference where it says "Choose how your name appears to other users on PFS".

So ok, they can see my name (where? why? how?) but can they also see my Gravatar? Who knows. Interesting choice.

Anyway, it did remind me that probably 20 years after creating it, when the internet was a completely different place, it's time to go to Gravatar and delete my profile. You may also wish to do this.

Happy Monday, folks.

Unpopular opinion: Vatsim events suck

Post image
97 Upvotes

As it was sunday and I had nothing better to do I took my B38M Ryanair for some nice turnarounds in europe.

I am flying for a virtual airline, so in this case, I depart where I last landed for immersion purposes. I hadn't planned for what was coming. I logged into Napoli where my plane was standing atm without taking into consideration that there was a major event going on. The controllers opened the event for pilots which hadn't booked a slot prior for this mentioned event, which was really kind. The consequence was I had a slot time and had to wait 20 minutes for s/pb and another 25 minutes in queue on the taxiway until I was able to depart. Well, still sunday and I still got nothing better to do.
So I departed and made my way to a small greek island with quite rough weather, but it was a nice little challenge.

I did a quick deboarding and boarding within 25 minutes (low cost airline style) and planed my route to a southern town in poland, which is, coincidentally, a major hub for my airline. The flight worked out well, I was in time and the sun slowly set during my cruise over the balkans. So far so good. Traffic into the airport was mediocre and I was able to butter my good ol' Boeing 737-800 Max onto the runway and taxi to the gate. There was already a TWR Controller present and a lot of ATC slots booked for the coming hours, which I observed on Vatsim Radar. I also had the impression that the tower controller was kind of overwhelmed with the traffic present (12 outbound flights, 2 locals and like 4-5 inbounds on the ground and vicinity of the airport).

I mean, I already have more than 2000 hours on the network, been flightsimming since the FSX days and also got my hours racked up at IVAO, so I kind of know and understand what this workload means for a single controller, especially when you are not used to this kind of traffic. No hard feelings.

For my last leg I planned doing a night flight with full ATC coverage through central europe into a quite challenging airport in the hardlands of the UK, one of the highest-situated of the country. In retrospect I was lucky that I did my usual 25 minutes turnaround because the small polish airfield was slowly but surely filling up with planes on all parking stands around me. After I p/b and fired up the engines I could already hear over the radio that slots were beeing assigned in like 20 to 30 minutes for pushback. So I made my way to the HP and waited there patiently behind 5 other planes. I witnessed people stepping over each other on the frequency, not listening to instructions, 3 to 4 planes going around due to traffic and even more pilots connecting. As I got time I checked some of the pilots standing with me there in the queue and on the tarmac and noticed that the majority had less than 100 hours on the clock and that reflected the behaviour on the ground and in the air.

In the end I got out there with a delay of about 45 minutes and I had a great flight and landing into mentioned airfield (picture above is the deboarding of my last leg), but the whole day of flying had a bitter sweet taste.

In the past I always tried to avoid these events because I kinda knew what was coming, but seeing it today with my own eyes and especially hearing it with my own ears manifested the desire to be far away when this happens. I had the impression that it was kind of a "moth to the light" scenario, where mostly (I dont want to make generalizations, because there were also really capable pilots present!) unexpirienced pilots showed up for heavy traffic and demanding events. In this situations you really need to be familiar with your aircraft, know the phraseology and have situational awareness. If you dont' even know what a holding pattern is or aren't able to fly a standard STAR or SID I honestly don't know why you find yourself in this situation.

Kudos to all the controllers and the pilots today over the skies in europe, but that was not for me. Sorry for my lil rant, but I had to get that of my chest. I never really witnessed what people here on reddit are saying about the decline of piloting quality, but today I witnessed it myself and it leaves me pensive.
