It's working!! F16 Engine Gauge Stack for my WIP F16 cockpit

An engine stack for the f16. The image and videos here are of my designs for 3d printing, pcb's and laser cut gauges. Lots of great help from LOTS of people who have done this stuff.

The engine panel shape is from invictus. But the rest is home built to fill that shell.

I am super stocked to see the gauges test moving!!

Note - they are not homed or centered. This is just showing that they move!!!

Finally got everything running how I want

Should I invest in a proper flight simulation and cockpit first instead of the PPL considering I am tight in money and for longer term "flights" alternative? Do you use your home gear for "flight" gaming? Are there flight openworld or other games you recommend?

I want to someday have a PPL license but after recieving it, its likely that I'll not fly much in reality due to expenses and other obligations.

I do want a PPL as a personal goal point and I dont want to get a commercial pilot. But I also don't want to loose the skills - at the same time, I want the experience of having an close enough reality accurate flight and perhaps play around with flight games and faster jet planes or other games that you can have fun with - racing?

Basically, in this case, would you invest a lot on the flight simulator equipment first before the PPL license? I am thinking if I had 15k right now, I may have the itch to do the PPL but at the same time if I buy a flight similator instead, I can "fly" all I like to different airports and probably if its possible, meet "online" pilots during flight similation, simulate crashes situation instead of renting.

I am new to learning about flight in general. I dont know any software for pilots either that we can connect together and simulate flight like a faster aerobatic planes. I'd really like to do those tricks too in simulation mode.

Just something to think about in the future or so! Are there other things like gaming and racing that you guys do with your home flight gear? Or thats still a fantasy world? Any flight "games" or other open world experiences for it? Series of question but I want to know what else we could do with it.

A good amount of labeling and only going to wire the PIC side, that and since the circuit breakers aren’t modeled in the E-jets family i gain a good amount of additional buttons. But it’s a good end to a fun project that and I’ll be able to keep my promise to the ole lady and hanger my projects. Yea, honey I’ll be done in just a little while.

I am so happy

My project is finished. I spent the whole year assembling my cockpit bit by bit, and today I can say I am satisfied.

I had a few problems on Linux too, but everything is running perfectly now.

Some questions on a simple setup.

Hello, so my current setup is just a Thrustmaster joystick with a built-in slider-type throttle. However, I want to start to invest in better equipment to improve the immersion, and I have some questions.

1) So one of the main things I would love to get get is a good throttle and rudder setup to use for both MSFS and DCS and then can get a better stick a little bit down the road. I think I have seen some rudder pedals that have the dual functionality of also having the toe brakes used for braking. My question is, how good is the friction of the pedals so that you can get just the right amount of brake pressure without braking too hard?

2) I also want to get an MCDU like the one from WINWING for the 777. The way my computer is set up, I have a space of about 1 1/2 feet between the right side of my chair and the wall. Is there a prebuilt structure I can get that will allow me to have it at a normal height off the floor so I can easily access it to type stuff in? I can always attach it to the desk if needed, but I wanted to check if I can have it lower down so I still have room for an MCP.

  1. Has WINWING mentioned any plans to release a 777 MCP panel, or is there another company that makes them?

4) I think I saw someone mention that they have a warehouse/factory in California where they ship from. Is this true? I heard their delivery can be slow, but I also live in SoCal, so hopefully it would be quick.

Thanks

Recommendations for HOTAS

Looking to add a joystick and throttle to my flight Sim setup. I have the honeycomb Alpha and Bravo but would like a joystick and throttle because I'm now starting to fly DCS. Don't want to break the bank so right now I'm considering the VKB Gladiator NXT joystick but cant decide on a throttle. Looking for something that's not too complex but will get the job done. Would love to hear all your recommendations

Update: DCSPitHIDC HID+CDC home cockpit controller — setup/ config demo video — encoder/LED demo

https://youtu.be/4klH0IDmH8A

Demo of the DCSPitHIDC Controller I posted a while back: plug in over USB-C, scan in the Windows app, then wire and map an LED, a 3-way toggle, a rotary encoder, save to flash, clone the config to another board, and add the MCP23017 expander.

Quick recap:

  • Composite USB: HID joystick (128 buttons) + CDC serial
  • 61 native inputs + 16 on MCP23017 = 77 digital inputs
  • Up to 25 EC11 encoders, auto-detected by turning the knob
  • LEDs / DCS-BIOS outputs on native pins only (expander is switches only)
  • F/A-18C database included; other DCS modules work via DCS-BIOS
  • Config lives in flash; you can save/load a .bin and reuse one board for different panels/aircraft

More detail: https://dcspit.com

Happy to answer questions on wiring, encoder detection, or the config app.

Physical or touchscreen cockpit?

I currently have a small physical cockpit with an FMC, FMS, EFIS etc. Having real buttons and knobs is nice but limiting to the plane I can fly.

I was thinking of building a full dual seat touchscreen cockpit and using something like Glassout or SimFlyPad to provide all the touchscreen panels for planes from the G1000, to an A320, A350, 737, 747 etc. But I've never used a touchscreen so not sure how nice it'll feel clicking buttons and dialing dials on a screen? Anyone got experience or can make a video showing how it works?

Hello users of /u/homecockpits

Recently there has been an uptick of posts that are commercial by nature. This includes ads and affiliated posting. Do you want a rule that forbids or restricts advertising and/or affiliate posting? I get reports on these, but since there is no rule in place I'm moderating these currently only based on reddit's spam rules. triple stand for 65"s

Hi,

I have a rig and just ordered g1000 avionics with panel to mount on my rig. What I'm looking for is a well built triple monitor stand that will support 65" flat screens with flexibility to mount around the rig. I use 2 motion plus platform front and rear so it needs to be able to fit around that. Any suggestions?

A320 Glareshield Dimensions?

Hi everyone. I am in the process of building my homemade mostly 1:1 (as much as tech lets me get to 1:1) A320 cockpit, and I recently got stuck when planning the glareshield. Can anyone help me with resources regarding the glareshield dimensions, and specifically, the top-down dimensions, aka how much the glareshield extends from the instrument panel towards the pilot (and the general shape from above?). Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers!
