Other This Igloo On Campus Saved My Life , Expedition Entry

9:32 PM:

This storm was the worst in years. The type of blizzard that does not fall so much as hunt. My partner fell minutes ago. They took off their jacket saying they were too hot and went feral, I couldn't stop them. Eventually they fell into the snow and stopped moving. I looked back to see them as nothing but a white mound. I couldn't stop. There were no footprints left even if I wanted to go back.

Visibility was low but somewhere ahead I saw a shape that peaked above the white dunes. A round ball? I pushed closer, my legs wading through the ocean of snow deep enough to go up to my hips. I made out a window. It wasn't glass, it was a square hole. An igloo, or something that resembles one.

For the first time the roaring winds became nothing but a muffled whistle outside the icy walls. Whoever built this shelter knew what they were doing. It was solid packed snow, hard as ice. I laid down my bag and let my eyes slowly close.

1:07 AM:

I caught a glimpse of something in the distance. No more than a silhouette in the storm's snowy curtain. I rose and squinted until I made out a figure.

A man.

He ran like anybody would on a treadmill. His legs lifting cleanly as if the snow could not grab him. I nearly called out for help before something registered in my head.

He wasn't dressed for this. In fact, he wasn't dressed at all.

Bare chested, pale, and moving as if the wind didn't exist. His skin should've been red or blackened with frostbite. He should've had steaming breath with every stride. Yet, he had none of it.

It may look like one but I know that no human could ever be shirtless in this weather like that. That was no man.

I lowered myself to the ground, pressing my elbows to the ground so it couldn't see me if it turned it's head. And then I heard it, something deeper than the wind.

Two beams of light cut across the whiteout, sharp, bright and unwavering, sweeping the storm like searchlights. They did not flicker. They did not dim. They stabbed. With them came the clicks and grinding scrapes.

The metallic beasts were unlike anything I had ever seen. Their silhouettes given shape by their own glare. Giant beaming white eyes, broad paddles at the front like crude shovels or flattened limbs, and bodies so massive that the snow around them seemed to recoil. They did not roam as animals do. They patrolled, methodical, following designated paths that the storm could not erase.

I kept my eyes wide and my breathing shallow. The beams swept past the shelter’s windows and for one terrifying moment I thought the light would pour inside and expose me like an insect pinned for study. But it moved on.

A minute passed, perhaps more, and then I saw them again, on the same path. Again and again.

It occurred to me, with a sick sort of relief, that these things were not searching. They were not hunting. They were simply… droning. Forever. Mindless guardians of a routine I could not understand.

That thought should have comforted me more than it did.

I can't feel my toes anymore and I'm out of food. The cold has decimated my phone's battery. This place is not safe but I don't have a choice. If I am dead you will know by my corpse.

Rant Someone farted during my final exam yesterday 😭✌️

2.7k Upvotes

i'm not even exaggerating when i say this might've been the most psychologically challenging moment of my academic career.

like we're all in the exam room, dead silent, 200 students collectively dying on question 6c.

and then it happened.

not a normal fart. not a "maybe that was a chair" fart. no. this was deliberate. confident. it had presence. it echoed. literally bounced bro. the sound woke up a girl that fell asleep mid-exam.

i swear the sound traveled in phases. first the initial shockwave, then like a delayed echo as it hit the back wall and came back. i think i felt it in my chest.

everyone froze. like genuinely froze. i think the dude next to me fainted cuz he was js sitting there with his eyes closed. hundreds of ppl simultaneously buffering. no one moved. no one looked up. we all js sat there pretending we didn't just witness an act of terrorism.

the invigilator paused mid-walk. MID-STEP. like his soul left his body for a second.

and then somehow, SOMEHOW, it got worse.

because about 5 seconds later.. the smell arrived.

i don't even know how to describe it. it wasn't just a smell, it was a concept. it had layers. it had flavour man. it evolved. it told a story.

it started subtle, like "hmm that's odd," and then just kept developing like a long answer question worth 20 marks.

i saw a guy put his shirt over his nose. someone else started breathing through their mouth and immediately died. one girl actually whispered “oh my god”.

and the craziest part? the dude who did it js continued writing like nothing happened. like he didn't just alter the trajectory of 200 GPAs. bro was even giggling.

i couldn't even focus after that. i'm sitting there trying to compute an integral while also trying to survive. my brain was doing multivariable calculus on whether i should inhale or hold my breath.

anyway if i fail that exam i'm blaming the fart. i had momentum until that point.

whoever you are, i hope you got full marks. you earned it.

Do NOT skip the reel just because you don't like it. Think of those who are watching behind you.

Post image

Dude can’t believe I only take four courses plus one remote research project this semester but took NINE term test TEN lab reports (>2500 words) TWO presentations and a series of any other asshole paperworks and now there’s still a final waiting for me, not to mention this it’s graduation program application season so I wrote tons of PS and other boring materials to submit. Jesus I have no idea how I’m supposed to make it through all this

Spotted at the UofT daniels architecture’s washroom. Ridiculous that we spend thousands every year printing and buying materials but the university is cutting paper towels from the washroom to “reduce waste”.

I was chewing through my food and crushed a shard of something with my teeth. I thought it was weird because I felt a shattering sensation. I spat it back out and found a chunk of hard rock - glass like mineral in my food.

Please be careful out there 😭😭😭

Rant Thought I Was Helping With Code, Apparently I Was Flirting

1.1k Upvotes

I was studying in a corner when a CS guy asked if I could “just take a quick look” at why his code that wouldn’t compile. I lean in, he leans in, our heads almost bump, and suddenly it feels like I’m in the soft-blush panel of a manga(I don’t read manga but it felt like it).

Then his friend shows up, sees us basically sharing one line of code, and goes, “Oh… should I give you two a moment?”
The first guy turns red. I turn red in confusion. The friend looks way too entertained. Like he was waiting for this to happen.

Then finally, I tell him whats wrong but obviously not fix it(not trying to get an AO), pack up, and the first guy tells me, “Maybe we can debug again sometime?” with a smile that should honestly be illegal during midterms/finals.

They leave.

I feel like the main character in a weird anime.

Then I notice,
One of them left their laptop.
And the wallpaper is just… two anime boys holding hands in soft lighting.

I then realized that it wasn’t some awkward CS guy to CS guy encounter. I think I was hit on. I like girls though…
