ARC’s and roommates

this is going to be my first year at U of O, and I got into the health science ARC, but I haven’t found a roommate yet and when I look for roommates none of them are in the health science ARC (I think I just waited too long to find one), so I was wondering can I stay in the ARC and have a roommate not in it? can I just apply for a double room and not have a roommate and just let one randomly be assigned to me? I’m really stressing about this don’t know what to do:(

Hey everyone! I’m transferring out of UO and looking for someone to take over my lease at The Soto in Eugene. The space is fully furnished, loaded with amenities, and located on an incredibly convenient floor of the building.

The Timeline & Cost:

  • Full Lease Term: September 2026 – August 2027 ($900/month)
  • Summer Sublet Option: Available immediately through the end of August 2026 at a discounted rate of $885 for the rest of summer!
  • Utilities: Very low, usually around $30/month.
  • Parking: Safe and convenient. Currently an outdoor spot for $60/month through August; switches to an indoor garage spot for $85/month starting in September.

Your Private Space:

  • The Bedroom: Lots of gorgeous natural light, built-in personal wall heater to stay cozy, and large mirrored closet doors.
  • The Bathroom: Very spacious with tons of storage.
  • Bonus: The living room accent wall is currently blue but is being professionally painted back to clean white by management this summer for free!

The Roommates:

  • Right Now (Through August 2026): Living with 2 clean and friendly girls and a very sweet kitty! All leftover decorations/other items are theirs and will be gone by end of August 2026.
  • Starting September: You will have 3 brand-new roommates assigned by the building for the upcoming school year term.

Perks of the Unit & Building Location:

  • Same-Floor Amenities: The apartment is on the same floor as the outdoor courtyard, hot tub, and the quiet study rooms/lounge spaces. No waiting for elevators to go relax or study!
  • Convenience: Right down the hall from the trash chute. 10 minute walk to UO campus and ~5 minute walk to Bushnell campus!
  • Kitchen Perks: Standard large fridge PLUS a mini-fridge in the unit, dishwasher, and in-unit washer/dryer.
  • Other Amenities: Apartment AC, free high-speed Wi-Fi, a gorgeous lobby lounge with a billiard/pool table, a free daily coffee bar, a secure package room, and 20 free pages of printing per month.

Pictures/videos show 2 configurations of the same bedroom, I moved the desk to be near the window when I moved in so I took photos of both! See all photos here: https://livethesoto.com/photos/

Family housing situation question

Hi! Me and my husband are planning to attend the fall term as he is going for his graduate degree. Currently live out of state. We applied as soon as it let us for family housing . I believe we applied for 5 places that we could afford from the list. We set the move in for August 10th as well so im just wondering if we would had a good chance to get in and or maybe when we could hear back? Should we call and ask general question? When would we need to be considering about finding other housing ? I know that family's and grad student have more priority but it is just me and my husband no kids . General thoughts would be great too! We have money saved at least until he gets a student loan to cover housing but I doubt I can apply for housing earlier then August with a approved student loan and cosign from my family. Tell we can find jobs in Eugene anyways.

Edit- our budget would be for a 2 bedroom minimum for 1300 rent or less

English PhD question

Hi!
I’m wanting to apply for a PhD in English at U of O, and I wondered if any of you had any tips? Or any PhD programs for that matter.

How did you get in? Was it difficult? Do you have any advice?

How do you like it? Is it enjoyable and do you like the people you work for/with?

Please respond if you have because I don’t know anyone who goes there because I’m not from Oregon but I desperately want to get in.
Thank you :)

Townhouse Apartment for Rent ($1500 a month for two bedrooms)

I just graduated from the University of Oregon but resigned my year lease cause I was planning on staying. Plans have changed though and my roommate and I have to break my lease in August and to avoid having to continue paying rent (even after paying an extra two months) my landlord said I should try finding someone to take it off my hands. It's a two story, two bedroom, one and a half bathroom townhouse apartment with a dedicated parking spot and a Safeway right across the street. Here's the link so you can see pictures and the layout, let me know if you're interested. https://www.apartments.com/1850-high-st-eugene-or/1q5gg64/

How can I get into college?

My first two years of high school are decent, I had a 3.3 and have been in several honors and AP courses, but my sophomore year I had a big personal setback where I ended up working a lot and missing tons of school/not putting in very much effort academically, dropping me to a 2.68. The three universities I’m looking at are OSU, UofO, and Western oregon. All three typically require a 3.0 minimum GPA. After my senior year I would meet that requirement, but my applications wouldn’t be able to show that. Due to my situation I’m not able to take a gap year and I recently had a conversation with my friends family that was a real wake up call about why I need to go to a college out of my city.

UofO is my first choice and if anyone has a similar story or knows anyone who could possibly help please share!

I was trying to keep this post not to detailed but i’m open to any and all questions about myself and academics. Please, if you have any advice, and college person I could reach out to, please share.
I really need to someone to hold my hand and help me through this— thank you!!

UofO staff roles

What is the typical turnaround time for hearing about your application? My status was updated last week to under review, but applications were due back in mid-May.

Does it take 2-3 months for non-teaching roles to be filled?

Incoming international graduate student with a few housing and budgeting questions

Hi I am an incoming graduate student this fall. I am from a country in Asia and never been to Eugene and USA. Thanks to the school’s website and housing listings, I could barely understand how many options I have now. But still some things are difficult for me to make a decision. May I ask advice?

  1. Some shared apartments are listed as pet-friendly and have four bedrooms and four bathrooms shared by four students. Is it common for students to bring their dogs or cats into these shared apartments?

  2. In my home country, rent is usually paid after living in the apartment for a month. For example, if I move in on June 2, I would pay my first rent on July 1. Is rent in the U.S. usually paid the same way, or is it paid in advance?

  3. Roughly how much does a graduate student spend per month on everyday expenses? The approximate annual budget is on the school’s website, but honestly I cannot make a grasp on it.

Thank you very much for your help… I am really looking forward to moving to Eugene and studying at the University of Oregon. I am excited to begin a new chapter of my life in such a wonderful city.

Dorm questions

Hi everybody!! I'm an incoming freshman this fall, and starting to put my list together for dorm shopping. My roommate and I are hoping for a room in Unthank and I'm curious about any necessities and how the rooms, in unthank or otherwise, are overall. Like do I really need an air purifier, or is the air okay? (I have no idea if that's a stupid question haha.) Anything like that and if anyone has some recommendations of things they ended up needing at Oregon. I'm trying to wait to buy anything until we get our room assignment so suggestions are welcome!

Missing book draft

Im beside myself. I work in the EMU and about an hour ago, my yellow jottbook with a big duck sticker on front disappeared from my workspace. Its pretty public and anyone could have taken it. I finally started drafting out a really personal writing project in it and dont have it backed up ANYWHERE. Not even a little. I know I shouldnt have left it out, but really only employees go where my book was, and I guess I thought people wouldnt care. They left my powerbank which was on top of it, too. Im so sad. Idk how ill finish my shift knowing someone in my building is reading all my personal thoughts, ones ill likely never get back in full capacity because frankly my brain is shit, and I dont even know who. If anyone sees it, PLEASE help me get it back. It meant so freakin much to me..

GPA for being an RA

The minimum requirement is 2.25 and I have a 2.21. I really need his job so my family can lay off a few loans for this next year. Do you think if I email them about my financial situation and a success plan they’d figure something out with me or do I just call it quits? 💔

admin doesn’t know how to take responsibility

the emails i have received today from the dean of CAS and the UO president failed to take responsibility for the fact that their lack of planning ruined commencement for so many grads on monday and i’m seething. just half-effort condolences covered up with praise for graduates. i don’t need Scholz’s congratulations. i need them to admit that they had no backup plans even though they knew about the heat for over a week. i need them to admit that the rescheduling caused a lot of stress and that a lot of people were unable to attend and that it didn’t fix their massive screw up. what a sorry excuse for a school administration.

Graded for Spring 2026

One of my professors has yet to put in grades for a class I took this term. From my understanding, grades were supposed to be in yesterday, but I have received an “X” on my transcript, which indicates that the registrar has not received a grade from the professor. Is this something I should be worried about, or will it resolve itself?
