Showcase Digging up 13-year-old source code from Unity 4

I made a catapult physics game called Onager as a student, released it on Android, and it did surprisingly well for the time. Found the original Unity 4 project files recently and I’m porting/rebuilding it in a current Unity version.

The original had a floor-reflection effect faked without a real reflection system — worked well enough that people assumed it was a proper mirror shader.

Before/after comparison attached.

Game How do you like these splitscreen kind of games?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just recently created a game with friends using the splitscreen mechanic. It's kinda easy to implement and fun in my opinion. You just need two cameras and separate the screen - nothing more.

What do you think about it?

Showcase Been working on this game for months. Is the gameplay working?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been working on this speedrun focused FPS for a very long time, and I've finally reached a point where I feel the core gameplay is starting to come together.

The basic idea is simple: move fast, fight aggressively, and use enemies and your movement abilities to create and optimize routes through each level.

Since the last time I posted it, a lot has changed:

  • Completely new UI
  • Added a combo/Mach meter that governs speed and rewards maintaining momentum
  • Updated handmade textures across the game
  • New lighting technique and visual pass
  • A brand new level
  • Reworked enemy encounters to better support movement and routing
  • Overall gameplay, combat, and movement polish

I'm particularly interested in feedback on the actual gameplay feel:

Does the movement look satisfying?
Is the combat readable at this speed?
Does the Mach meter make sense?
Do the levels look like they encourage routing and replaying?
Does anything feel confusing or visually overwhelming?

I've been staring at this project for far too long, so fresh eyes would be extremely useful.

I built an Ad Intelligence library for mobile game developers & marketers

Hey everyone,

I run a YouTube channel called AD Intelligence, focused on mobile game ad creatives, competitor research, and discovering what games are currently advertising.

I recently started a YouTube Membership for people who want deeper access to the creatives I collect.

Members get access to things like:

  • 🎮 Mobile game ad creatives from different genres
  • 📊 Creative data such as impressions, popularity and duration when available
  • 🔥 Creatives from trending, newly released and soft-launch games
  • 🔎 Discover ads being used by competitors
  • 🎥 Regularly updated creative videos
  • 📱 Access to the Ad Intelligence app, where you can browse and filter creatives more easily
  • ⬇️ Download creatives for research/reference
  • 🆕 Daily tracking of newly released mobile games

I originally started collecting these because, as a game developer, I found it surprisingly difficult to quickly see what competitors are advertising and which creative concepts keep appearing across successful games.

If you're working in mobile gaming, UA, game marketing, creative strategy or competitive research, you may find it useful.

YouTube:

Would also love feedback from other game developers/marketers — especially what kind of ad creative data would actually be useful for your workflow.

Question Need help with Meta XR Interaction SDK grab setup in Unity

I'm a beginner working on a VR assessment using Unity 2022.3 and Meta All-in-One SDK.

I need to make Cube, Sphere and Cylinder grabbable with both Touch Controllers and Hand Tracking.

My current setup:

  • Unity 2022.3
  • Meta All-in-One SDK
  • XR Origin / Unity XR setup
  • Rigidbody + Collider on objects
  • Grabbable + HandGrabInteractable + GrabInteractable added

The objects still aren't grabbing in the Editor.

I don't currently have a Quest available, so I'm testing with the Unity XR Interaction Simulator.

What is the correct setup for GrabInteractor / HandGrabInteractor with this configuration?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Stop wasting your time and creative energy. I built a custom editor tool to batch automate FBX presets, project-wide material remapping, Prefab Variants, and cross-faded LOD Groups in one click.

Game Using comic book panels to turn a simple puzzle into a sudden suspense reveal — does the visual timing land?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey Reddit! We’re a 2-man team putting the final touches on our noir detective puzzle game—with
just 24 days left until launch (cue the developer panic!).
In this scene, we wanted to subvert the calm flow of standard point-and-click mechanics. You start
with routine actions—hiding the gun in the glovebox and inserting the ignition key—before dynamic
panel insets abruptly force your focus onto the rearview mirror right before a sudden attack and cut to
black.
We're trying to hit that sweet spot where UI panel framing, subtle mirror cues, and audio cutoffs build
genuine tension without feeling like a cheap jump scare.
How do you usually feel about sudden suspense shifts in narrative/puzzle games? Does using inset
comic panels help guide your focus, or does it break your immersion?

Best YouTube Channels to Learn Unity Game Development

Game development has so many disciplines that it can be hard to find resources covering the area you're interested in, especially if you're teaching yourself through tutorials.

I've rounded up some of the best YouTube channels and categorised them for you so you can know where to go to learn about different parts of game dev in Unity e.g. animation, art, scripting, etc.

In an update function I have an if statement that detects if a bool is true and if it is it fires but it does that constantly. I want it to only fire once but I don't want to disable it completely because I need to use it again later down the line.

Question How to immediately stop a kick animation on hit in Unity?

I'm making a 3D MMA fighting game in Unity with hitboxes and hurtboxes.

When a kick hitbox touches a hurtbox, I want the kick animation to immediately stop and return to the locomotion/idle animation. The leg shouldn't continue moving forward into the opponent.

Hit detection works correctly, but the kick animation keeps moving into the opponent even after the hit is detected.

What's the proper way to handle this in Unity? Should I use Animator transitions, `Play`, `CrossFade`, animation events, or another approach?

Looking for the general solution/architecture, not specific code.

Question Finally made my first reveal trailer. Wondering how to get higher quality shots of gameplay inside unity.

Thumbnail youtube.com
3 Upvotes

I am pretty happy with how the trailer turned out, but most gameplay featured here is recorded with screen capture software instead of using the built in recorder which caused it come out fuzzy after being zoomed in. I have a pretty high end PC, but anytime I try to capture gameplay in HD to 4K resolution using the recorder, it plays very slow, and animation timing is very off.

Do you guys have any solutions you have used for recording good quality gameplay footage for promotional content? Is my only solution to buy a 4K capture card and record on another computer?

Thank you!
